People wowed by beautiful spot that 'looks like the Caribbean', but it's in Scotland
This incredible spot in Scotland has been compared to the Caribbean, but is much closer to home and won't cost you a fortune. People cannot get over the clear waters and white sand beaches.
We all know the feeling of needing a break, whether it is due to work stress, personal issues, or an overbooked social calendar that leaves us exhausted. However, with rising bills and the high cost of living, splurging on a lavish holiday abroad often seems out of reach for many. While going abroad would be great, Scotland is home to so much beauty - and you can enjoy 'Caribbean-like' beaches close to home in this incredible spot in the north.
The spot is Luskentyre sands in the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. It is one of the largest and most spectacular beaches on Harris and has been named one of the UK's best beaches in the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards.
You will find miles of sand dunes, green-blue water, plenty of water sports, and spots to go hill walking and cycling. The location is also famous for being the setting of BBC 's Castaway.
After visiting recently, Cara shared a video on TikTok, which has raked in over one million views. On her @caramowbrayxoxox account, she dubbed it "paradise" and wrote, "Scotland, or the Caribbean?". In another video she said she has "never seen water so clear".
"Love Luskentyre beach it's gorgeous," insisted one individual in the comments. "I love Scotland it's such a beautiful part of the world," added another.
One who was gobsmacked by how clear the waters are, said: "Scotland! I live in Scotland and me and family went there at one point! Gorgeous place!"
Another pointed out: "The amount of people who don't know how beautiful our country/beaches and waters are is scary. But the less people who explore the quieter it will stay for us who do."
"I've been here and the water is honestly not that cold," noted one other.
The best time to visit the spot is during the summer months for optimal weather conditions, and daylight hours.
Getting there
The easiest way to get to the beach spot is to catch a short flight to Stornoway Airport. Flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh run every day and are just over an hour. Prices range from £120 upwards, according to Rome2Rio.
Once you arrive, you can drive one hour and 19 minutes to the beach, which is the cheapest option. You can also get a train which will take less than three hours, get on a bus, or order a taxi.
Unfortunately there is not direct train routes from to Luskentyre. Rome2Rio states: "However, you can take the bus to Uig Pier, walk to Uig Skye Ferry Terminal, take the ferry to Tarbert, walk to Car Park, then take the bus to Turning Point.
"Alternatively, you can take a train from Glasgow Queen Street Low Level to Township via Spean Bridge, Spean Crescent, Uig Pier, Uig Skye Ferry Terminal, Tarbert, and Car Park in around 12 hours and 13 minutes."

'Stunning' Scots town Emma Raducanu 'fell in love with' for its beautiful sights

I did a run before the show. It was just stunning to take in all the sights. For me, my retreat is greenery. I think Scotland has just vast, amazing, beautiful greenery. It was beautiful.' She added: 'I think Drummond Castle, where the show was at, is stunning. The lawns were so perfectly manicured, it was beautiful.' Her visit coincided with one of the most star-studded events ever held in the Scottish countryside. Dior's showcase drew in major names from around the world, including Hollywood heavyweights Jennifer Lawrence and Anya Taylor-Joy. But it was Crieff's natural splendour and quiet sophistication that stole the show for Raducanu. Crieff, a picturesque market town nestled in the heart of Perthshire, has become a thriving tourism hub in recent years. Known for its whisky heritage and literary history, it's home to Scotland's oldest lending library, the town continues to enchant visitors with its unique mix of history and hospitality. The centrepiece of Raducanu's visit, Drummond Castle, is among the most celebrated sights in the region. American tries British afternoon tea and issues damning verdict
Afternoon tea is a well-loved British tradition and social occasion featuring tea, sandwiches, scones and cakes – and one American living in the UK had his first experience with it Afternoon tea stands as one of Britain's most cherished customs. Originating in the 18th century, it continues to flourish today as a beloved ritual consisting of tea, delicate finger sandwiches, scones accompanied by clotted cream and jam, and an assortment of cakes and pastries. Beyond the culinary delights, it serves as a social occasion typically savoured in relaxed but elegant surroundings, such as hotels or dedicated tea rooms. This quintessentially British experience interests tourists and newcomers to the UK, including TikTok creator KJordy, who relocated from America to London and shared his first time experiencing this age-old honoured tradition. In his TikTok video he confessed he couldn't imagine anything more "posh", "dainty" or "exquisite" than afternoon tea, prompting him to sample it firsthand. As he arrived at the venue, KJordy was initially presented with an elegant black case containing various tea varieties. Sitting at his table with the afternoon tea stand before him, his immediate reaction was that it "looks hella bougie." KJordy gestured towards the top tier which contained the 'sandwiches', but was actually a selection of breads including brioche. The middle tier featured the desserts, while the bottom was home to the scones he was so "excited" for. The American began by pouring himself a cup of red tea, before adding a splash of milk. After tasting the brew, he grimaced slightly but concluded it was "not bad". KJordy then sampled a portion of egg truffle brioche, which he appeared to relish more than the tea. However, he still described it as "not bad". Moving on to the scones, he sliced one in half and slathered some clotted cream followed by jam onto the lower half before placing the top portion back on. After tucking into the scone he declared: "A scone is the same as our biscuits. I'm here for scones." The expat then turned his attention to the desserts, which he described as "interesting". His favourite was the roly poly, which he described as "the best dessert so far". Delivering his final judgement on this British custom he summarised: "The afternoon tea I think it's just for socialising like [the] presentation is what looks the best. Taste wise, I could give or take. Overall, afternoon tea for me it's a six out of ten." People weren't happy that KJordy was "disappointed" by the afternoon tea – as many pointed out he was eating and drinking it all wrong. One remarked: "That tea looked like a rooibos, fruit or herbal tea which should never have milk." Another user chimed in: "Milk with the fruit tea? Nope... just nope!" A third advised: "If you've never experienced afternoon tea, you should definitely go with someone who's experienced. Milk in fruit tea – yikes." On the subject of scone etiquette, one person said: "Sir did you just eat that scone like a sandwich? No, no, no, we eat each half separately, it makes it feel like two scones." Another echoed: "Scone was eaten incorrectly! Eat half at a time."

Could this new boarding pass cure gate anxiety at the airport?
You've dropped off your bags, made it through security, and now you're just waiting to board. But, instead of relaxing with an overpriced drink at an airport bar, you're glued to the departure board, hoping your gate number finally appears. Gate anxiety – or gateanxiety – is the all-too-familiar stress of checking the screen in fear you'll miss one of the many updates, from the 'go to gate' announcement to a random gate change, and end up having to sprint across the airport, or worse, miss your flight. But if you're constantly craning your neck to see if there's an update, a new digital boarding pass is about to make life much easier. Spain's biggest airline, Iberia, is launching a real-time updating boarding pass. Unlike the static digital and printed boarding passes we're used to, these passes automatically update if there are any changes to your boarding gate or seat. While some boarding passes will include a gate number alongside other essential flight information, like the seat number and flight time, some airports don't assign gates until closer to the departure time. Rather than check the nearest board, all passengers need to do is look at their phone. They'll also receive push notifications on their device with updated information. The new boarding passes are intended to 'enhance customer experience' and speed up boarding times at the airport. They'll be available to those using the Iberia app, and to anyone who downloads their boarding passes to their digital wallet from Iberia's website. It will come as a welcome update to the many travellers who have shared their experience of gate anxiety on social media. One TikTok user, @belissa27, asked her followers: 'Does anyone else have to physically see your gate at the airport before you can relax and get food, or are you normal?' The post received hundreds of comments from people who experienced similar anxieties. 'As soon as I get to the airport, I have to go down and find my gate, making sure the gate number matches my ticket. I can't relax until they both match up.' Another user, @classless_wanderers, captioned a video: 'Only seasoned travellers know: before you relax, before you eat, before you pee – check if your gate is real.' User @jenngstyle shared the same thought in another video. She captioned it: 'Walking to my gate before turning around to get drinks/ snacks because for no reason at all, I feel better if I see where my gate is first.' She added: 'I can't be the only one with this level of anxiety.' One user, @goochybird, asked in the comments: 'What kind of monster wouldn't do that?' While @anamontes124 added: 'One time I thought it was 'right there' and it was a whole terminal away. Always go to the gate first.' The new boarding pass is just one example of Iberia introducing technology to improve customer experience. More Trending Last month, the airline launched 'Iberia GPT', a conversational assistant in ChatGPT that helps customers plan and personalise their trips. It also has a new app for those with hearing and verbal communication difficulties. Iberia was also one of the first to partner with Apple to allow passengers to use AirTags or other tracking devices in their checked luggage to help locate lost bags. Passengers can share the location link of their AirTag with Iberia, in the hopes they'll be able to track it down quicker.
