Mkhwanazi vs Mchunu: 5 things you need to know about their explosive feud
There has been a massive spat between the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, and KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
During a media briefing on Sunday, Mkhwanazi made explosive revelations, accusing senior police leadership, including Mchunu, of interfering in investigations into politically motivated killings.

There are concerns that the spat might affect policing and administration.
In a detailed briefing, Mkhwanazi exposed the removal of 121 case dockets from his political killings task team by Deputy National Commissioner General Shadrack Sibiya, allegedly under the instruction of Mchunu.

Magaqa's killer sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for murder
One of the men who killed former ANCYL secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa has been sentenced to 25 years for murder.
Sibusiso Ncengwa admitted that he was part of a group of men who were paid R120 000 to kill Magaqa in 2017.

His lawyers had pleaded for leniency. They argued that he had apologised to the Magaqa family and had shown remorse for his deeds.
Ncengwa is also serving time in prison for other crimes unrelated to Magaqa's murder. These include armed robberies.

Saps investigates TikTok allegations against officer accused of drinking on duty
The South African Police Service (Saps) has launched an urgent investigation into a viral TikTok video that shows a uniformed police officer being accused of being under the influence of alcohol while on duty.
According to North West police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the footage, which has been widely circulated, depicts a group confronting the officer and making serious accusations about his state while on official duty.

Mokgwabone noted that the provincial commissioner condemned the alleged behaviour, saying such conduct will not be tolerated within the ranks of the Saps.

22 arrested after illegal workers and weapons found in Roodepoort factory raid
Home Affairs Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza on Monday revealed that law enforcement discovered weapons and ammunition during a raid on a Roodepoort factory allegedly employing illegal immigrants.
The factory, owned by a Chinese national, was raided during an operation that led to 22 arrests.

Did the Viljoens of Tammy Taylor-fame skip the country?
It seems that Peet and Melany Viljoen are now living in the US, with him urging white South Africans to join him there. Did Peet and Melany Viljoen of Tammy Taylor franchise fame really skip the country? It seems like they did if you look at Peet Viljoen's latest video on Instagram, where he makes various racist statements and urges white people to follow him to the US. Peet Viljoen and his wife, Melany, have been in the news for the past few years after various people accused them of selling Tammy Taylor franchises that never materialised. Some of these complainants won their court cases against the Viljoens. In the latest court case that The Citizen reported on, North Gauteng High Court judge, Joseph Raulinga ordered that the Viljoens must pay back the R600 000 a woman paid for a Tammy Taylor franchise. He also declared the transaction unconscionable, unjust and unreasonable in terms of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), and void. He also ordered that Tammy Taylor Global Franchising, as well as both the Viljoens, 'immediately cease representing or holding out to the public that they have the legal authority and right to sell Tammy Taylor nail franchises in South Africa, without authorisation under the Trade Marks Act.' In addition, he ordered that they remove all references to Tammy Taylor from their websites, stationery, forms, marketing material, salon products, and social media platforms within 30 days from 25 April. Raulinga also ordered the registrar of the court to forward a copy of the order and all the papers to the National Prosecuting Authority. The Hawks confirmed to The Citizen that it is investigating. ALSO READ: Tammy Taylor Global Franchising gets a big hiding in South African high court Viljoens earlier denied they are leaving SA Private investigator Mike Bolhuis said in May, just after news of the latest judgment against the Viljoens became public, that he received information indicating that the Viljoens planned to evade justice by moving to the United States of America. In response, Peet Viljoen told Rapport that they are not leaving the country and that they are simply going on holiday to Perth in Australia where they will open a franchise. He said that they had no intention to leave South Africa permanently and even provided 'evidence' in the form of copies of plane tickets to Perth. However, this past Sunday, Viljoen told Rapport that he has in fact left South Africa for the US and that he has no intention of returning to South Africa. Rapport referred to – now deleted – statements Peet made on his Instagram account. According to Rapport, his original video included the statement: 'I don't speak baboon anymore,' and the assertion that he left South Africa for the US due to South Africa's racial laws and the 'inferior mental capacity of the black person in South Africa'. However, there are videos on his Instagram and TikTok accounts where he talks at length about leaving South Africa to live in the US and offering to help South Africans who want to move there, as he believes there is no future for the white man in the country. 'It is clear from Viljoen's statements that he is attempting to provoke a public response from the EFF and other anti-racism activist groups, with the hope of using it to appeal to the US government that his life could be in danger if he returns to South Africa. 'This is a sly and corrupt way of obtaining and using refugee status to evade justice in South Africa.' According to Bolhuis, the Viljoens sold their assets in South Africa and lied about their intentions to leave the country by claiming they were merely taking a holiday in Australia. According to Bolhuis, a warrant of arrest will soon be issued for them, which he says is the main reason for their departure from South Africa. 'If the Viljoens succeed in evading justice by finding refuge in America, this will set a standard and it will open the door for widespread corruption and many similar cases will soon follow. 'They must return to South Africa and face justice for their actions.' Bolhuis is warning the South African and American public not to fall victim to Viljoen's manipulation. 'He is well-spoken and he knows how to appear sincere. There is a good reason why Viljoen has been the centre of several controversies surrounding his business dealings over the years. 'He uses manipulation and sophistication to draw victims into conducting business with him. Once the victims discover that he is not adhering to his end of the agreement, he turns to intimidation, extortion and threats to convince his victims not to file or to withdraw criminal charges against him.'

Police investigate 'drunk' cop in viral video
The police have launched an investigation into a viral video of a police officer allegedly under the influence of alcohol while in uniform and on duty in the North West. The video shows a group of community members confronting the police officer and accusing him of being drunk. Provincial spokesperson Brig Sabata Mokgwabone said the police have seen the footage and view the allegations made seriously. 'The provincial commissioner who is on record saying that ill-discipline and intemperate behaviour by members shall not be tolerated views the video in a very serious light and has instructed the district commissioner to immediately investigate the allegations, which if true amounts not only to serious misconduct, but also a criminal offence,' Mokgwabone said. 'These allegations cannot and should not be taken lightly as they are damaging to the integrity and professional image of the SAPS, further contributing to the trust deficit between the police and the community. 'It is equally important to point out that this matter shall be investigated without fear, favour or prejudice.' Mokgwabone said preliminary investigations indicate that two members of the Patriotic Alliance and Operation Dudula, who came from Gauteng to support the group, could assist with the investigation. The police have called on the two individuals to contact the district commissioner or the provincial corporate communication and liaison to assist. 'The two possible witnesses are further advised that making and publicising information of such a serious nature without reporting it to the relevant authorities may result in them being charged for defeating or obstructing the course of justice.' Security beefed up at Mkhwanazi's home after explosive allegations
Security has been beefed up outside the upmarket home of KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. This comes after the provincial top cop convened a press conference on Sunday and accused police minister Senzo Mchunu and senior police officials of interfering in political killings and being linked to organised crime. Mkhwanazi said he was a hard-core police officer and was prepared to die for the police badge for telling the truth. 'I chose to be a police officer, and in many years in my career I have been involved in combat,' he said. When TimesLIVE drove past the property on Tuesday, heavily armed national intervention unit members stood guard outside. Vehicles including an SUV and a VW golf 7 were outside the property. A concerned business owner who runs a bed and breakfast establishment on the same road said he was alarmed by the high police presence at the property. 'I spoke to them because some cars were parked on the pavement. They were reluctant to give me answers [about their sudden presence]. Instead they jokingly asked if I was not happy to see I was well protected,' said the resident.
