Palestine urges CEAPAD countries to take stronger political stance on crisis
Palestine's Planning and International Cooperation Minister Dr Estephan Salameh said that while CEAPAD has meaningfully contributed to Palestine's development efforts, there is now a need for stronger political solidarity amid escalating atrocities.
"We want this group to be more than just a development platform. We want it to be a voice for justice and freedom for our people.
"We need support in ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state," he told Bernama.
Dr Salameh said this year's CEAPAD meeting is being held at a critical and painful time for the Palestinian people.
"This year's meeting is taking place under very difficult circumstances.
"We are here while our people are facing genocide and one of the most brutal occupations," he said.
The fourth edition of CEAPAD (CEAPAD IV) today will focus on capacity-building, the reconstruction of critical infrastructure in Palestine and the effective delivery of comprehensive humanitarian aid.
The meeting will be co-chaired by Dr Salameh, alongside Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya.
The CEAPAD IV meeting is being held in conjunction with the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings under Malaysia's Asean Chairmanship.
Current CEAPAD members are Japan, Palestine, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali said CEAPAD has evolved into a meaningful platform for solidarity and political alignment among East and Southeast Asian nations.
"CEAPAD represents a unique coalition of countries willing to support Palestinian state-building, not only through aid and capacity development, but also by affirming the Palestinian people's rights to dignity, self-determination and sovereignty," he said.

RAMALLAH (Palestine), July 15 (Bernama-WAFA) -- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) media advisor, Adnan Abu Hasna in Gaza, has raised alarm over Israel's reported plans to establish what it calls a "humanitarian city" in southern Gaza. Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported that he warned that the initiative is essentially a blueprint for mass internment camps. In a press statement, Abu Hasna said Israel has long been laying the groundwork for such a plan through the establishment of aid distribution points in southern Gaza. 'Now, they are openly declaring their intent to forcibly displace the population of Gaza into collective detention camps in Rafah, as a prelude to their expulsion from Palestinian land,' he stated. He warned that this development signals Israel's continued commitment to the forced transfer of Gaza's population, expressing deep concern over the extreme pressure being applied to Palestinians. 'The total collapse of the healthcare system, absence of aid, and depletion of fuel are all being weaponised to coerce the population into voluntary displacement,' he said. He further cautioned that the so-called humanitarian zone is incapable of hosting Gaza's 2 million residents within just 60 square kilometres of devastated land, describing the area as uninhabitable and void of any semblance of life or future. MAMBA: Avoid politicising e-commerce fee hikes, focus on MSME sustainability
THE Malaysian Micro Business Association (MAMBA) has urged for a balanced and constructive conversation around recent fee changes by e-commerce platforms, warning against scare tactics and politicisation. 'We must avoid scare tactics and politicising important conversations that directly affect thousands of Malaysian sellers,' said MAMBA secretary-general Alvin Low Wei Yan. 'There needs to be room for discussion—so that everyone, from sellers to shoppers to platforms—can win,' he said. Low said the influx of cheap imports, especially from China amid the ongoing trade war, is already threatening local MSMEs, adding that fee adjustments may be necessary to ensure platforms can continue investing in infrastructure and services. 'Good customer experience is not just a buyer issue – it's a seller issue too,' he said. 'Sellers benefit when platforms are seen as trustworthy and efficient.' MAMBA stressed the importance of collaboration between government, platforms, and seller groups to protect MSMEs, warning that blanket criticism and punitive calls could harm the broader digital economy. 'Calling for authorities to threaten or punish platforms simply for raising fees is counter-productive and risks undermining the very ecosystem we are trying to strengthen,' said Low. –TMR
