Tamil Nadu school education department revokes compulsory retirement of art teacher
SA Rajkumar, the art teacher who exposed the sexual harassment of a girl student at the same school, was suspended by CEO R Balamurali in 2023 over allegations of dereliction of duty. Later, the CEO issued his compulsory retirement in 2024.
When Rajkumar appealed against the CEO's compulsory retirement to the Joint Director (JD) Personnel of the School Education Department, the latter stated in an order on June 6, 2025, that the CEO, against whom the petitioner had made charges, had acted as the inquiry officer for Rajkumar.
The compulsory retirement of the art teacher given by the CEO is considered an improper action based on his inquiry report. The art teacher's compulsory retirement has been revoked, but his suspension will continue, the JD's letter said.
The CEO has been directed to appoint a new inquiry officer to investigate the allegations against the art teacher. According to sources, in 2023, a girl student from the school told the art teacher that a Physical Education (PE) teacher had harassed her sexually.

Children rescued from bonded labour in Tamil Nadu go off official radar
KRISHNAGIRI: The illegal and ignoble practice of bonded labour is still rife in Krishnagiri district. The lack of coordination among various departments that have a stake in curbing it is being blamed for inadequate rehabilitation of those rescued. This has been proved by two instances, years apart, when children who were rescued are no longer traceable though it is mandatory for the authorities to follow up the rescued ones. Only last week the school education department helpline - 14417 - received information that a 13-year-old tribal boy from near Thalli was working in a brick-kiln unit at Chinnaubbanur village as a bonded labourer. He was rescued by the personnel of the child protection unit, labour department, police, and revenue department. A case was filed against the landowner and the boy was enrolled back to school near Thalli. Inquiry revealed the boy was sent for garden work for Rs 25,000 per year. Another case: an April 2022 TNIE article titled 'Irula couple in Krishnagiri seeks help to rescue sons from Karnataka' explained that a couple from Kamatchipuram village, near Bargur, had sent their two children, aged 14 and 12, to Karnataka for duck-rearing in return for Rs 55,000 each per year and the couple received only Rs 16,000. The child rescued last week was admitted to a government school near Thalli. The other two — Ramesh and his brother Sajesh (both names changed) — were admitted to the Kamatchipuram Panchayat Union Primary School and the Government Higher Secondary School Anchoor - Jegadevi.

In hospital for cancer care, undertrial escapes police custody
A prisoner lodged in Saharanpur jail fled from the Meerut government medical college, where he was undergoing treatment for cancer, while under police watch. He was out of police bounds even three days later on Sunday. (For representation) The undertrial inmate was in jail after he was charged with loot and murder. His escape has triggered a departmental crackdown. The incident came to light after police personnel, deployed for the accused's security, were found sleeping on duty. Sub-inspector Raj Kumar, head constables Devendra Kumar, Vinod Kumar and Aditya and constable Nitin Kumar were assigned to guard Musahid, who hails from Saharanpur. Primary investigation revealed that the cops on duty dozed off during the night, leaving the accused unattended. When the S-I woke up in the middle of the night, he found the prisoner missing from his hospital bed. Rather than immediately reporting the incident, the officers allegedly tried to suppress the matter and began a discreet search. After several hours of failed attempts to locate the fugitive, they reported the matter to the medical police station in the wee hours of June 19. Police registered a case and launched a formal search operation. Also, a case was filed against all five policemen responsible for the lapse. Saharanpur senior superintendent of police Rohit Singh Sajwan suspended the entire security team deployed at the hospital. According to officials, Musahid, due to his deteriorating health, was brought to the Meerut medical college on March 24. He remained under medical care for nearly three months. SP City Sahranpur Vyom Bindal said, 'In the case of a prisoner's escape, an FIR has been registered against five policemen and absconding prisoner under BNS section 261 (escape from confinement or custody negligently suffered by a public servant) and 262 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension). The five cops have also been suspended'. Even SWAT and Special Operations Group (SOG) teams have been pressed into action to track down the absconding criminal.

5 cops suspended after prisoner escapes custody in Meerut
Meerut:Five police personnel were suspended for 'negligence' after a prisoner escaped from their custody, said Saharanpur SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan on Saturday. The accused, Mohd Musahid, 35, from UP's Saharanpur, was undergoing cancer treatment at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College in Meerut. A police officer, privy to the case, said, "Musahid was in judicial custody in connection with a robbery case. Due to his illness, he had been admitted to LLRM. On Thursday morning, SI Raj Kumar, who was assigned to his security, found him missing during a routine check. The responsible police personnel initially handled the matter discreetly and continued looking for Musahid. However, when their efforts failed, formal action was initiated. " "Based on a complaint by SI Naveen Kumar, a case was registered against SI Raj Kumar, head constables Vinod Kumar, Aditya, Devendra Kumar, and constable Nitin Kumar under BNS section 261 for negligently allowing an escape from custody. An FIR was registered against Musahid as well," said SHO Sheelesh Yadav. SP City Ayush Vikram Singh added that multiple teams have been formed to trace the absconding prisoner. "Raids are being conducted at suspected locations, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to track his movements," he said.
