"We'd had a report of a possible sighting just off Central Pier so the Blackpool ILB launched and we sent rescuers from our team and Lytham down to the surfline to support.
"It was an extremely challenging launch for the boat crew and the boat got hit by several big waves, one of which swamped the boat throwing one of the crew members backwards the full length into the helmsman causing injury and requiring an immediate abort of the operation and a recovery of the ILB.
"One team of Coastguards on the beach continued to search South and another searched North. Within a few minutes the North team issued an immediate call on the radio to state the casualty had been spotted struggling in the waves about 30m out.
"Already equipped with water rescue personal protective equipment one of our coastguard rescue officers entered the water tethered to another to effect an immediate rescue.

"It was an extremely challenging push to reach the casualty he had to push and swim through the same waves that had just hindered the inshore lifeboat and chase the casualty, who was at the mercy of the tidal currents."
The statement continued: "The injured lifeboat crewmember was already receiving care in another ambulance.
"The three Coastguards who had entered the water were suffering from water ingestion, mild hypothermia, exhaustion and one suspected sprained/broken ankle.
"They were taken into the boathouse to recover and receive assessment from paramedics.

"It was determined that two would need to go to hospital, as well as the lifeboat crewman, for further assessment."

Parents who raised £100k for tragic son sue charity after refusing to give them cash for terminal daughter's Disney trip
A MUM and dad who raised £100,000 for their tragic son are suing the charity for withholding the money as they want to use it for their terminally ill daughter. Craig Evison and Victoria Morrison's nine-year-old son Kyle tragically passed away in 2020 from incurable brain cancer. Advertisement 3 Craig Evison and Victoria Morrison are battling a charity for £100k raised for their son Credit: Champion News Service Ltd 3 Kyle tragically passed away aged just nine Credit: Facebook Before his death, well-wishers had donated thousands to pay for treatment in the US and "memory-making" experiences for the family. But due to Covid lockdown restrictions, Kyle's parents were never able to take him travelling before his death. Craig and Victoria instead hoped to use the money for his two-year-old sister Ruby-Rose, who has been diagnosed with genetic metabolic disease and may not live past the summer . They created a Go Fund Me page - under the name "Ruby-Rose's Making Memories Fund" - saying they want to "take our kids travelling across the globe and see and do as many amazing things". Advertisement This includes taking Ruby-Rose to Disney in Florida to meet her beloved Minnie Mouse. But when they tried to claim almost £100,000 left from the appeal money for Kyle, charity Gold Geese said they could not access the cash because Ruby-Rose has a different disease. Craig and Victoria are now suing the charity at the High Court in London - saying it should be handed over to benefit their daughter. But the organisation says it cannot pay out because the donations were made for Kyle when he was a cancer patient and can now only be spent on trials for another child in a "similar" situation to him. Advertisement Most read in The Sun The court was told Kyle was diagnosed with a rare cancer - diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DPIG) - in 2019 when aged eight. Attempts to raise money for his treatment and make the most of his time left originally started with a Facebook group before Gold Geese took over the campaign. The money flooded in and and Kyle was due to go to the US for treatment in late 2020, but Covid prevented his travel and by the time restrictions were eased, he was too ill. Tragically, the brave youngster died in October that year. Advertisement Craig and Victoria went on to have Ruby-Rose in 2022 but were heartbroken to discover she had a condition known as Megdel syndrome. The disease is characterised by high levels of acid in the body, which is usually fatal in early childhood. Representing themselves, the couple told the judge their daughter is unlikely to live beyond this summer but is continuing to fight her illness. They said: "We just want the money to make as many memories as we can." Advertisement But barrister William Moffett, representing the charity, said the money could only be used for the purposes it was donated - children with cancer, and not other diseases He said the couple agreed to a contract that stated that if the money was not spent on Kyle's treatment, it would go to another DIPG trial or the cause of a child in a "similar" position. The lawyer also argued there was no way donors intended the money for Ruby-Rose as she was not born at the time. He continued: "Gold Geese is a cancer charity, it's on its logo. Advertisement "There are other charities whose objects would include assisting someone with Ruby-Rose's condition, but it wouldn't be proper for Gold Geese to stray outside the illness of child cancer. "The charity is trying to do what they're legally obliged to do within the ambit of their purpose. "If the court were to tell us otherwise, they would have authority, but we don't think it's the right answer here. "It's just an unfortunate fact that Mr Evison and Mrs Morrison have a child who is ill with a different illness." Advertisement But the couple insisted the contract allows money to be spent for Ruby-Rose's benefit, since they believe she falls into the definition of a "similar" case. They also told the court they have continued to highlight childhood cancer and if any of the donors specifically stated they wanted their money to go on research, the couple would not object. Craig said: "We couldn't predict what was going to happen, we are humans. Kyle sadly passed. His sister Ruby-Rose is in an extremely rare and a very similar situation. "If she makes it another [month], she has outlived the hospital's expectancy. We are just trying to have that chance to make these memories while there's still time and we physically can." Credit: Facebook/@Arcangelo Caressa The deadly bait, believed to have been tossed into his kennel overnight, caused fatal internal bleeding. The seven-year-old dog had become a national hero after successfully tracking down nine missing people, including Alzheimer's patients, across the Apulia region. He was once honoured by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who yesterday led the wave of public fury and mourning. In a powerful statement, Meloni condemned the killing as a "vile, cowardly, unacceptable act." Read more world news "Thank you for everything you did, Bruno," she added. Trainer Arcangelo Caressa, who found Bruno in distress, paid an emotional tribute on Facebook. He wrote: "This morning I died alongside you. "You fought your whole life to save humans and now it was a human who did this to you." Most read in The US Sun Prosecutors have opened an investigation, with police scouring CCTV footage from the facility in a bid to catch the perpetrator. Tourist who kicked sniffer dog 'so hard it flew into the air' at US airport is deported after being slapped with fine Authorities suspect the poisoning may be an act of revenge, possibly linked to Bruno's role in helping crack down on illegal dog-fighting rings. Mr Caressa revealed Bruno had not only rescued people but had recently assisted in operations against animal cruelty and clandestine dog fights. "Some families wrote to me this morning to thank me again," he added. "Their loved ones are alive thanks to Bruno. And now he is no longer with us." Animal rights activists are now calling for swift justice under Italy's newly strengthened animal cruelty laws. Introduced on July 1, the law includes penalties of up to four years in prison and €60,000 fines for intentionally killing animals with cruelty. Michela Vittoria Brambilla, the politician behind the legislation, called for its immediate use. She said: "A nail-filled bait gave a horrible, long and painful death from internal bleeding to he who had saved so many lives. "At the thought of such boundless cruelty one should be ashamed of belonging to the human race." "Our community deserves to be seen for what it truly is: united, respectful and civil." It comes after a Freddie, a five-year-old beagle working with US customs, was attacked at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia after alerting officers to a suspicious suitcase. The dog had flagged the bag belonging to Hamed Ramadan Bayoumy Aly Marie, who had just arrived from Cairo and was waiting at baggage claim. According to a federal complaint, after a brief exchange with a customs officer, Hamed lashed out and kicked Freddie 'so hard that he was lifted off of the ground.' The injured dog was rushed to a vet and treated for bruising to his right rib. Hamed pleaded guilty to the assault the next day, was slapped with an $840 (£611) fine to cover vet bills, and was deported back to Egypt shortly afterward.
