WWF launches app to report wildlife crimes
But these wildlife species face serious threats from wildlife crimes, which include illegal trade, poaching, hunting, and ill-treatment.
An application has been launched to report wildlife crimes and coordinate meaningful actions by the government departments and law enforcement agencies.
The World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) said in its press release issued on the occasion of the World Wildlife Day 2025. It further said this is the first time this application has been launched to tackle crimes facing wildlife in Pakistan.
The application has been developed under the Securing the Future for Indian Pangolin project supported by the Pangolin Crisis Fund. A link to the application has been developed on Google Drive for reporting crimes and will soon be available on the Google Play Store.
The theme for the 2025 World Wildlife Day, 'wildlife conservation finance: Investing in People and Planet," focuses on innovative technologies and enhancing collaboration to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of existing financial resources. It highlights the urgent need to strengthen investment in conservation efforts, ensuring a resilient and sustainable future for humanity and the natural world. Advanced technologies such as software applications, artificial intelligence, camera traps, and satellite data can help address wildlife threats, monitor conservation performance, and promote effective strategies for protecting threatened wildlife. This application will report and collect data on wildlife crimes, enabling the relevant departments and agencies to take action against wildlife criminals.
WWF-Pakistan Director General Hammad Naqi Khan remarked that addressing wildlife crimes requires an inclusive approach involving government departments, law enforcement agencies, civil society, and local communities. Tackling such crimes could be improved by building capacity, fostering collaboration, raising awareness, and creating enabling conditions that integrate the expertise of AI specialists, conservation experts, and members of local communities. Khan emphasized the essential role of wildlife in promoting ecosystem management and human well-being.
Referring to the application, Khan said that it would create a platform for wildlife officials, conservation experts, and the public to interact and share valuable information about illegal wildlife activities "To protect the wildlife, we need to work together and take immediate action to combat wildlife crime as it is one of the key reasons for species decline at local, national, and international levels", Khan added.

IBO in Mastung: Three terrorists killed; major, soldier martyred: ISPR
RAWALPINDI: Security Forces killed three terrorists belonging to Indian Proxy Fitna al Hindustan while a major and solider embraced martyrdom in intelligence based operation (IBO) in Mastung (Balochistan). Aleema says IK has ordered launch of nationwide movement
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has instructed the party leadership to launch a full-scale nationwide movement against the government, his sister Aleema Khan said on Thursday. Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, Aleema Khan revealed that Imran Khan has directed PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to mobilise an effective campaign across the country. Addressing questions about the arrival of Khan's sons-Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Isa Khan-to Pakistan, Aleema said 'the former prime minister considers it their right to speak out in support of him.' Regarding the ongoing Toshakhana case, Aleema Khan condemned the treatment of Imran Khan inside Adiala Jail and the restrictions imposed during the court hearings. She stated that the legal team and family were only informed about the hearing hours before it began, and only two lawyers were allowed entry. Family members, other lawyers, and media personnel were barred from attending the session, she added. 'We waited outside the jail for four and a half hours,' Aleema told reporters, adding that Khan has been confined to a cell for 22 hours daily without access to newspapers, books, or television, and has only recently been provided with a single book. 'He has instructed his lawyers to inform the public about the inhumane conditions he is enduring in prison,' she said. Earlier, the special court, hearing the Toshakhana II case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, completed recording statements of nine prosecution witnesses. Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand, while hearing the case at Adiala Jail, adjourned the case till July 26 after the defence completed the cross-examination of another prosecution witness Shafqat Mehmood. Khan's counsel Qausain Faisal Mufti also conducted a partial cross-examination over another witness Mohsin Hassan. Jail authorities produce Khan and his wife before the court. Army officer, soldier martyred in Mastung anti-terror operation
Listen to article An army major and a sepoy were martyred during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan's Mastung district, the military's media wing said on Thursday, while two law-enforcement personnel also embraced martyrdom in separate terrorist attacks in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). Police also recovered a pistol and magazine, as they started a search operation in the area. Meanwhile, President Asif Zardari commended the security forces for eliminating three terrorists in an IBO against Fitna-tul-Hindustan in Mastung. Zardari paid tribute to Major Zeeyyad Salim Awal and Sepoy Nazam Hussain, who were martyred in the operation, and saluted them for their sacrifice. "Major Zeeyyad Salim Awal Shaheed and Sepoy Nazam Hussain Shaheed set a new example of bravery by sacrificing their lives in defence of the motherland, Zardari said. He expressed his heartfelt sympathy with the families of the martyrs and prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs. The president said that the sacrifices of the security forces would not go in vain. "The nation will always remember the sacrifices of its martyrs," he said. "The operation will continue until Indian sponsored terrorism is eradicated. The nation stands by its forces in eliminating terrorism." Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also paid glowing tributes to Major Zeeyyad Salim Awal and Sepoy Nazam Hussain and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and praised the fallen soldiers for their unwavering courage and selfless devotion to duty. "Major Zeeyyad Salim Awal and Sepoy Nazam Hussain displayed exceptional bravery in the line of duty and succeeded in eliminating three terrorists before making the ultimate sacrifice," the interior minister said in a statement. Naqvi emphasised that the two soldiers laid down their lives for the security and sovereignty of the country and were granted the highest honour in the form of martyrdom. "Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Shaheed Major Zeeyyad Salim Awal and Sepoy Nazam Hussain will live forever in our hearts." The minister noted that the nation owed its peace and stability to the blood of its martyrs. "The entire country is proud of the supreme sacrifices rendered by our brave sons. They have written a new chapter of heroism in the fight against terrorism," he added. Naqvi reiterated the government's firm resolve to continue the war against terrorism until the last terrorist was eliminated.
