Tendulkar leads praise for India after Test fightback in England

An Indian Express headline read 'Miracles Do Happen' and the newspaper explained how Gill had stepped up as captain of a 'gun team'.
The Hindu waxed eloquent on the 'Mission accomplished'.
'After 25 days of riveting action, the best was saved for the last as Shubman Gil's men rode Mohammed Siraj's sensational spell to pull off a remarkable victory,' it said.
'It was a litmus test for an Indian team in transition but the young side showed heart and character as it fought back from tough situations to share the honours.'

The 7,187 runs scored is the most in a five-Test series, and it is just the second time in the past 20 years that every game in a series of that length has gone to a final day. If any administrator in the world game looks at this series and is considering four-day Tests as the way to go, they shouldn't be an administrator in cricket. That's all that needs to be said.'

Coach Gambhir hails India's performance
ANI New Delhi With India drawing series with a spectacular victory against England in the last Test of the five-match contest, head coach Gautam Gambhir hailed the team's performance, saying that the team 'deserves every bit of it' and it is difficult to 'mention one name' which stands out. The Indian cricket team's new era under coach Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill began on a promising note, as immense fighting spirit, resilience and never-say-die mentality of a new-look Indian squad helped them seal a series draw, beating England by six runs at The Oval in a thriller to level the series 2-2. Speaking to the media following his return to Delhi, Gambhir said he is happy. 'I think boys deserve every bit of it for the way they performed in all five Tests.' Gambhir hailed pacer Siraj, who was the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps, including nine at The Oval, but pointed out it is difficult to mention just one name who stood out the most. 'I think he (Siraj) has been brilliant. In fact, not only he, but the entire team has performed brilliantly. It is very difficult for me to mention one name, but these guys have, be it Shubman, be it Siraj, be it everyone... I think the boys have been brilliant throughout the last two months,' said Gambhir. Gambhir said that Shubman did a 'fabulous job'. 'That is all I can say, and he will keep doing good for Indian cricket,' he concluded. The series saw close contests in all matches with both sides making new records. All matches ended on the fifth day and the last match of the series was befitting a final with both teams dominating different sessions.

Former Arsenal midfielder Partey granted bail on rape charge
Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing in a London court on rape and sexual assault charges. The 32-year-old Ghana international has been charged with five counts of rape against two women and one count of sexual assault against a third woman. The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022, when he was an Arsenal player. Partey was charged on July 4, four days after leaving the Gunners when his contract expired at the end of June. The midfielder stood with his arms behind his back in the dock at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, wearing a black zip-neck jumper. The footballer showed no reaction as the charges were read out and was not asked to enter any pleas. Partey's lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, previously said Partey 'denies all the charges against him', adding he welcomed 'the opportunity to finally clear his name'. Under his bail conditions, he cannot contact any of the three women and must notify police of any permanent changes of address or international travel. Reports in recent days have linked Partey with a move to La Liga club Villarreal. As bail conditions were discussed in court, Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring said: 'I understand he's no longer employed in this country and playing in Spain now.' Partey is due to appear at London's Old Bailey court on September 2. A spokesperson for Arsenal Supporters Against Sexual Violence said the group was 'profoundly disappointed' in the London club over their handling of the matter. An Arsenal spokesman previously said: 'The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case.'
