Patrick Kane Stays With Red Wings On Bonus-Heavy Contract
The 36-year-old signed a one-year contract with Detroit for an average annual value of $3 million on Monday. He avoided becoming a UFA on Tuesday, July 1.

Kane can also earn up to $4 million in performance bonuses, according to Chris Johnston of TSN and The Athletic. That includes $2.5 million for playing 10 games, $250,000 for 30 games played, another $250,000 for 50 games played, $500,000 for making the playoffs and $250,000 each for a first-round and second-round win.

This past season, Kane recorded 21 goals and 38 assists for 59 points in 72 games. It was the most points he had in a season since his 92 in 2021-22 with the Chicago Blackhawks.
In 1,302 career games, Kane has 492 goals and 851 assists for 1,343 points. He also has 53 goals and 138 points in 143 playoff games. He's won the Stanley Cup three times, all with Chicago. His individual accolades including winning the Hart Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, Art Ross Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy and Calder Trophy.

The league, union, International Ice Hockey Federation and International Olympic Committee confirmed the participation of NHL players at the games for the first time since 2014. The groups negotiated the agreement and announced it initially last year. IIHF president Luc Tardif called it 'a major step forward for our sport.' The final touches took time to figure out after officials insisted for months they were not concerned about the lack of a signed document. The deal opens the door for NHL participation to continue in 2030, something that had also been agreed to in February 2024. The 12 participating countries unveiled the first six players on their Olympic rosters. The men's hockey tournament at the 2026 Games is scheduled to run from Feb. 11-22.
