UAE Enforces Midday Break to Protect Outdoor Workers Starting June 15

Hi Dubai03-06-2025
The UAE's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has confirmed the return of the annual Midday Break, banning outdoor work between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm from 15 June to 15 September 2025.
Now in its 21st year, the regulation aims to safeguard workers from heat-related health risks during peak summer temperatures.
The Midday Break aligns with the UAE's commitment to international occupational safety standards and sustainable labour practices. It mandates employers to provide shaded rest areas, cooling equipment, drinking water, and first-aid supplies to workers during the restricted hours. 'This initiative reflects the UAE's deeply rooted social and humanitarian values,'
said Mohsin Ali Al Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection & Compliance at MoHRE. 'With over 99% compliance in recent years, the private sector continues to demonstrate strong awareness of worker welfare.'
Dalal Alshehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Protection, praised the private sector's efforts, noting that many companies now offer fully equipped rest facilities. 'The Midday Break is a model of cooperation between government, businesses, and the wider community,'
she said.
Certain essential or technically sensitive jobs—such as infrastructure repairs or tasks requiring uninterrupted execution—are exempt from the rule but still require permits and adherence to safety measures.
To ensure compliance, MoHRE will carry out inspections and field visits while encouraging the public to report violations. Offenders face fines of AED5,000 per worker, up to AED50,000 for multiple breaches.
The Midday Break continues to play a vital role in protecting the UAE's diverse workforce and promoting a safe, responsible work environment during the harsh summer months.

Al Ansari Exchange, the UAE's leading remittance and foreign exchange company, has introduced a new cash payout service for Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) insurance claims in partnership with the ILOE's Insurance Pool PSC. The service is now available across more than 270 Al Ansari Exchange branches nationwide. This initiative aligns with Al Ansari Exchange's strategy to expand its portfolio of accessible and inclusive financial services, aiming to provide integrated solutions for insured individuals under the ILOE scheme supervised by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, which offers eligible insured individuals cash compensation for a limited period in the event of unemployment. 'Providing accessible financial solutions to individuals across all segments of society is at the heart of our mission,' said Ali Al Najjar, Chief Operating Officer of Al Ansari Exchange. 'This new cash payout service for ILOE claims ensures that beneficiaries receive timely support when they need it most, with the added convenience of our nationwide network.' As one of the channels for premium collections under the ILOE scheme managed by ILOE Insurance Pool, Al Ansari Exchange now extends its services to allow customers to conveniently collect their claims payout in cash at any of its branches across the UAE. 'This service will provide an important additional channel for paying ILOE's claims, thus facilitating access to compensation for subscribers,' said Abdellatif Abuqurah, Chairman of ILOE's Insurance Pool. 'This reflects the ILOE's Insurance Pool commitment to providing the highest quality standards for services in line with the government's directives.' The insured individuals must submit their claims within 30 days from the date of unemployment through the ILOE Scheme website at the ILOE mobile application, or by calling the dedicated ILOE call centre at 600599555. Customers can also check the status of their claims through these channels to complete the process of receiving their compensation upon approval. Palace cites gov't programs for elderly amid push to penalize neglectful children

Malacañang urged the public to take note of existing government programs for senior citizens amid renewed discussions on the welfare of the elderly and a proposed Senate measure seeking to penalize children who abandon their aging parents. In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. continues to prioritize elderly Filipinos as part of the country's vulnerable sectors. 'Marami tayong mga programa para sa kanila. May discount sila sa MRT at LRT, at tinuturing silang priority sa tulong,' Castro said. The statement comes after Senator Panfilo 'Ping' Lacson refiled the 'Parents Welfare Act of 2025,' which aims to impose penalties on individuals who fail to provide support to their elderly, sick, or incapacitated parents. If passed into law, children who abandon their parents may face imprisonment of six to ten years and a fine of not less than P300,000. Asked about the Palace's position on the measure, Castro said the Family Code already mandates mutual support between children and parents, citing Article 194. 'May obligasyon ang anak na suportahan ang magulang, at ang magulang sa anak. Nasa batas na 'yan,' she explained. Castro added that a thorough review of the bill is necessary to determine the validity of criminalizing children who neglect their parents.
