Phil Giles ‘wouldn't be massively surprised' if Bryan Mbeumo stays at Brentford
Giles, speaking on Monday afternoon at the unveiling of new head coach Keith Andrews, said the London club would be 'open' to a deal which was 'right for us financially', but insisted Mbeumo staying put was 'not off the table'.
'In terms of expectations, I don't actually know where that will end up,' Giles said.
'I think we made our point clear that Bryan had such a great season and if he earned a massive move now, which is right for us financially, then we would be open for that, but if he's here next season I wouldn't be massively surprised, it would be welcomed, we would be delighted.

'It would save me a massive headache, frankly, and that's not off the table, so let's see how it goes.'
Brentford scored a club-record 66 Premier League goals last season en route to an impressive 10th-place finish, with Mbeumo's 20-goal haul a big factor.
'With Bryan, he had 20 Premier League goals last season so we expected lots of interest and there has been lots of interest,' Giles added.
'He has his own views for the next part of his career and where he will end up, which is fair, because it's his career and those conversations have been going on for the last couple of weeks.'
If Mbeumo does leave, he would add to a growing list of summer departures from Brentford, with manager Thomas Frank joining Tottenham, goalkeeper Mark Flekken heading to Bayer Leverkusen and midfielder Christian Norgaard 'more likely than not', in Giles' words, to leave.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson on first Championship fixtures
Wrexham finished runners-up in League One last term to secure an historic third successive promotion and place in the second tier for the first time in 43 years. The new campaign kicks-off with a clash against Southampton at St Marys Stadium on Saturday August 9 and the match has been selected for live television coverage by Sky Sports with a 12.30pm kick-off. Parkinson, who celebrates his four year anniversary as Wrexham manager today, began his playing career with the Saints who were relegated from the Premier League last term and the 57-year-old is excited about the contest. "I was an apprentice there many years ago and I think it is a great start for us," said Parkinson. "You can't really ask for anymore - an ex-Premier League team - and these are the games we have worked so hard to get in the Championship. "There is an attractive look to the fixture with the story of us coming up and three successive promotions, and them coming down after such a disappointing season. "They are the games you want, testing yourself against that kind of opposition. "There is a lot of preparation to have between now and then but when the fixtures came out, we were all very pleased with it. "We are back in the club and even though it's early in pre-season, you can sense the excitement with everybody." After facing Southampton, Wrexham entertain fellow-Championship outfit Hull City in a Carabao Cup first round tie before returning to league action with back-to-back home games against West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday. The Racecourse pitch has been renovated over the summer and Parkinson is looking forward to a series of matches at the Reds' north Wales stadium. "You can't argue with a home tie," he said about the league cup ties against Hull, one of six clubs he managed before his appointment at Wrexham in July 2021. "There's a run of home games at the start of the season so it will be good for the lads to get used to our new pitch."

Pride over Wrexham progress in four year stint for Parkinson
The 57-year-old took charge of the club on July 1, 2021, becoming the first Reds' boss appointed by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since the Hollywood owners completed their takeover earlier in the year. His time at the helm has been littered with success, with Parkinson making history after leading Wrexham to three successive promotions and a place in the Championship next season for the first time in 43 years. Previously manager of Colchester United, Hull City, Charlton Athletic, Bradford City, Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland, Parkinson has clocked up more than 1,000 games in the dug-out and he is loving his time in north Wales. But although he has taken Wrexham from the National League to the second tier, he is far from finished. "It is incredible how quick it has gone," said Parkinson. "It was been an incredible experience and I am looking forward to making some more memories this season. "Everybody has got to be very proud of the achievements and back-to-back-to-back promotions is something that can never be taken away from us. "It might take a few years for people to look back and realise what an achievement that has been. "A lot of work has gone in at this football club - sometimes, I think people from the outside don't realise that or realise how hard everybody has worked to get the club where it is today. "We have now got an amazing platform to go and compete in the Championship. "Someone told me that we are the only team in the Championship this season that has never been in the top-flight and in a way, that shows where we have come from and the clubs we are competing with, "But my job, and everybody else's now, is to work hard to build a squad as strong as we can to make us competitive next season." Wrexham reported back for pre-season training yesterday ahead of the new Championship campaign which kicks-off with a clash against Southampton - relegated from the Premier League - at the St Marys Stadium on Saturday August 9, with the game kicking off at 12.30pm and being shown live on Sky Sports, MORE WREXHAM AFC NEWS There have already been 10 managerial changes in the second tier since the end of last season and Parkinson - the longest serving manager in the division - takes nothing for granted. "It gets harder and harder as a football manager," he added. "You only have to look at that stat to indicate the spotlight which is on managers. "I have always said, you need good people working with you and the strength of the squad is so important any season."
