Reviving disappearing rivers in every district needed: U.P. CM
Speaking after inaugurating Gorakhpur's second Kalyan Mandapam (community hall) at Surajkund Dham, Yogi called for large-scale water conservation efforts and widespread plantation along riverbanks and catchment areas.
'Rivers are like arteries of the nation's body. If they vanish, water crises arise,' the CM said, recalling how the Gaurdhoiya stream, now being revived, was once a river but became a drain due to encroachments. He sought people's support for the 'One Tree in Mother's Name' campaign.
Yogi stressed the importance of reconnecting with nature and involving communities in restoring ecological balance. 'The effects of climate change—untimely rainfall, drought, and ecosystem degradation—are all outcomes of human negligence. It is time for us to take responsibility and act collectively,' he said.
In his address, the CM also highlighted the role of infrastructure aligned with public needs. He said development should serve society's requirements and facilitate solutions for common people. 'Infrastructure should not only reflect growth but also resolve the issues of the masses,' the CM added.
The newly inaugurated Kalyan Mandap, built by the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation, spans 35,500 square feet. It has been constructed at a cost of ₹4.52 crore.
Yogi encouraged residents to install CCTV cameras outside their homes and use technology for public safety. Calling for active civic engagement, he urged citizens and corporators to form mohalla committees to oversee cleanliness and promote plantation drives.
These community groups, he said, will play a crucial role in fostering a healthier and greener environment. 'Government schemes can only succeed when people participate wholeheartedly,' Yogi said.
On the occasion, the CM also announced that the 75-bedded working women's hostel being built by Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation will be named after 18th-century queen of Indore Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, an icon of women empowerment and devotion to culture and religion.
'The dedication coincides with Holkar's 300th birth anniversary and honours her contributions to empowering women, farmers, and artisans, as well as restoring several iconic temples across India,' he said. The CM also highlighted key development projects underway in Gorakhpur, stating that the city now enjoys four-lane connectivity from all directions along with completed inner and outer ring roads.
Janata Darshan held
On the second day of his visit, Yogi held a Janata Darshan at Gorakhnath temple where he heard the grievances of over 200 citizens. The CM directed officials to respond swiftly and sensitively to each complaint, ensuring timely and quality resolutions. Later, he offered prayers at the Gorakhnath temple and fed jaggery to cattle at the temple's Gaushala.
'Complete AYUSH univ work by June 22'
Inspecting the ongoing construction of Uttar Pradesh's first AYUSH University in Gorakhpur, the CM expressed his strong displeasure over the delay in its completion. He has set June 22 as the final deadline for the completion of all pending work.
'Celebrate Yoga Day'
Addressing the public, he urged citizens to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 with great enthusiasm in every ward and locality.

‘UP saw dismantling of criminal network under Yogi in 8 years'
Lucknow: Highlighting the "immense changes" in law and order in the state since the BJP came to power in 2017, a govt spokesperson outlined the condition of Uttar Pradesh before 2017 and now. Following CM Yogi Adityanath's rise to power, the administration initiated a series of decisive actions to dismantle the criminal network that had taken root. Since the BJP came to power, there was a surge in police action against gangsters, seizure of illegal properties, and court trials were fast-tracked. There was a crackdown on unlawful religious conversions and the drug mafia. This, said the official, saw a sharp decline in criminal activity. "Under its zero-tolerance policy on crime, the state govt over the past eight years has seen over 240 dangerous criminals being killed in police encounters. During this time, the police carried out more than 15,000 encounters, arresting over 30,000 criminals. More than 9,000 criminals were injured in these operations," said the official. The govt cracked down on illegal properties of criminals, which broke the backbone of the mafia network and boosted public trust in the govt. As per govt data, illegal assets worth more than Rs 14,200 crore were seized or destroyed over the past eight years. Under 'Operation Conviction', about 1 lakh criminals have been convicted so far, which includes nearly 10,000 criminals sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes like rape, murder, and organised crime. Another 68 criminals have been sentenced to death. On average, courts are resolving 143 cases daily and punishing 187 criminals each day thanks to strong legal efforts, the official added. To crack down on the illegal drug trade, the govt has carried out large-scale operations, which include raids on fake liquor factories and inter-state mafia networks. Illegal liquor has been destroyed, and thousands of smugglers were arrested. An Anti-Narcotics Task Force was also set up, which has helped in the recovery of illegal drugs worth over Rs 2,737 crore and the registration of more than 30,000 cases. The govt went all out against illegal conversions, passing the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021, under which hundreds of people have been arrested, and several organised conversion rackets have been busted, claimed the official, citing the recent crackdown on Jalaluddin alias Changur, a key accused in an illegal religious conversion network. The state govt's policy, which the CM reiterates publicly at every occasion, is that a criminal will either be in jail in UP or out of the state.

Malegaon Blast Twist: Witness Milind Joshi Claims CBI Asked Him To Falsely Name Yogi Adityanath
New Delhi: A day after a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court acquitted all seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, a fresh controversy has emerged. Milind Joshi, a key witness in the case, has come forward with serious allegations, claiming there was a deliberate attempt to politicise the investigation and fabricate evidence to arrest a senior RSS functionary. In a statement to Zee News, Joshi alleged that he was subjected to custodial torture and pressured to implicate senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders, including the current Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who at the time was only a Member of Parliament. "There was intense pressure to name Yogi Adityanath," Joshi claimed. "In 2008, he was not the prominent figure he is today, but there was still a clear effort to falsely link him and others to what was being framed as 'Hindu terrorism.' I was detained and tortured. False evidence was being created." #BigBreaking :#MalegaonCase #MalegaonBlast #BreakingNews@akhileshanandd — Zee News (@ZeeNews) August 1, 2025 Joshi further revealed that although the investigation was officially being conducted by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had also participated in the interrogations. "It was strange, some CBI officers from Delhi were questioning us, and they were extremely aggressive. I'm not sure if they had jurisdiction at the time, but they were certainly involved and used intimidating tactics," he said. "In 2008, Yogi Adityanath, this name was not as big as it is today. Today, he has become a global name. However, in 2008, he was just an MP, and there was considerable pressure on us to take his name. A lot of pressure was put on us for this. The case was actually being investigated by Maharashtra ATS, but a surprising thing was that some CBI officers had come from Delhi, and they were also interrogating. I am unsure whether this case fell under the CBI's jurisdiction at the time. I don't know anything but some CBI officers used to come from Delhi and do the interrogation, and they used to do it very rudely. The officers of Maharashtra ATS were also putting pressure. But the Delhi CBI officers used to behave very rudely and threaten us," he revealed. #BigBreaking :'#MalegaonCase #MalegaonBlast #BreakingNews @akhileshanandd — Zee News (@ZeeNews) August 1, 2025 These revelations come in the wake of the court's decision on Thursday to acquit all accused, including former BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit, due to a lack of evidence. The court dropped all charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Arms Act, and sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Malegaon blast took place on September 29, 2008, near Bhikku Chowk mosque in the Nashik district town of Malegaon. The explosion, caused by a bomb strapped to a motorcycle, occurred during the holy month of Ramzan and just days before Navratri. It killed six people and injured over 100 in the communally sensitive region. The investigation, initially handled by Maharashtra ATS, was transferred to the NIA in 2011. Over the course of the lengthy legal process, spanning nearly 17 years, more than 100,000 pages of documentation were presented. The trial saw 323 witnesses testify, though 34 of them turned hostile, significantly weakening the prosecution's case. The court, which concluded hearings in April and reserved its verdict on April 19, delivered the judgment in a packed courtroom. It also directed the government to pay Rs 2 lakh in compensation to the families of those killed and Rs 50,000 to each injured victim. Joshi's latest claims have sparked renewed debate about the integrity of the investigation and the possibility of political interference during the early stages of the case. Legal experts and political observers are now calling for a thorough examination of the witness's allegations.
