Out on bail, man held for raping teen he sexually harassed 4 months ago
1 2 3 Kendrapada: A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl on Thursday evening. The accused, who had recently been released on bail after spending around four months in jail for a previous sexual harassment case against the same girl in Jagatsinghpur district, was taken into custody on Friday. The accused was initially arrested on March 27 under Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly making obscene gestures towards the 16-year-old girl. He was granted bail last week. Police said the accused allegedly raped the minor while she was alone at her home and threatened to harm her if she disclosed the crime. The survivor's mother filed an FIR on Thursday night, leading to his arrest. Police have charged the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and Pocso Act . Investigating officer Pradipta Kanungo said the medical examination of the survivor confirmed rape. The man was presented in court on Friday, where his bail application was rejected, and he was remanded in custody. The accused is already undergoing trial in a Pocso court for the earlier charges.

Salesman arrested for sexually abusing 7-year-old girl
A salesman at a provision store allegedly lured a 7-year-old girl to a godown behind the store and sexually abused her. Based on the complaint by the victim's parents, the Bagalagunte police arrested 20-year-old Mohammed Haji, hailing from Kerala, on Friday. The victim had gone to the shop near her house to buy biscuits. However, Mohammed Haji working in the shop reportedly told her biscuits were over and they were stocked in the godown, and asked her to come with him to get the biscuits. The unsuspecting girl went with him and was allegedly sexually abused. The girl returned home and told her ordeal to her parents, who rushed to the police station and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and arrested the accused.

Government school teacher in Nilgiris arrested under POCSO Act
A 50-year-old government school teacher in Nilgiris district was arrested on Thursday night under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on charges of sexually harassing girl students. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody and lodged in the Ooty sub-jail. The accused had worked as a science teacher in government schools across Tamil Nadu for over two decades. In June 2023, he was posted to a government school in the district where he taught science to students from Classes VII, VIII, and XI. According to the police, a recent awareness session on personal safety conducted by police department at the school helped uncover the crime. During the session, students were educated on 'good' and 'bad' touch. After the session, a Class VI student informed authorities that the teacher had touched her inappropriately. Following this, 20 other students came forward with similar complaints. Based on the complaints, the Ooty Rural Police registered a case under POCSO Act. A team led by Inspector P. Vijaya of the Ooty All-Women Police Station (Rural) arrested the accused. He was subsequently produced before the Mahila Court in Ooty and remanded in judicial custody The police and Child Welfare Committee officials plan to conduct inquiries at all his previous workplaces to determine if similar incidents occurred elsewhere.
