KUCHING (July 31): Sarawak is set to kick off its National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign 2025 with a community-oriented launch on August 2 at Kompleks Sukan Satok, Padang SLPAS, under the theme 'Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni'.
The launch will be officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and the Sarawak Public Communications Unit), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, who also serves as the minister-in-charge of the 2025 Sarawak-level National Day Celebration.
This state-level celebration continues the momentum from the national launch of the campaign by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 27 at Dataran Tanjung Emas, Muar, Johor.
Key highlights of the Sarawak event include the official launch of the Jalur Gemilang campaign, flagging-off of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy, and the Kita Madani Carnival 2025.
The KMJG convoy will begin its journey from Kompleks Sukan Satok, making its first stop at Dewan Kampung Tematu, Batu Kitang, and proceeding through five phases across Sarawak.
The journey will culminate on Malaysia Day, September 16.
'All convoy movements and routes will be updated regularly on the Sarawak Information Department's social media platforms,' said the Information Department in a report.
At each checkpoint, attendees can expect special programmes themed around HKHM celebrations, featuring infotainment concepts.
In addition, there will be Pentarama entertainment performances, Rahmah Sales, exhibitions by government departments and agencies, and stalls by Madani Community Groups from Kuching.
The public is also encouraged to display the Jalur Gemilang at homes, workplaces, and on vehicles throughout August, in support of the 'One House, One Jalur Gemilang' (1R1JG) initiative – an effort to foster patriotism and pride among Malaysians. jalur gemilang national day national month

US tariff rate won't affect Malaysia's commodities market, says Johari

JOHOR BAHRU: The United States' decision to impose a 19 per cent reciprocal tariff on Malaysian goods will not affect the competitiveness of Malaysia's commodities in the global market, according to Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. He stated that the tariff rate remains competitive compared to other ASEAN nations, including Indonesia, which faces the same rate. 'We're almost on par with the lowest rates in ASEAN. For example, Indonesia is the world's top producer of oil palm, and we're number two. 'They are also subject to the 19 per cent rate, so for us, 19 per cent is fair. It's not a problem,' he said. Johari made these remarks after attending the Pasir Gudang UMNO Division delegates meeting earlier today. The US announced the new tariff rate yesterday, reducing it from the previously proposed 25 per cent. The revised tariffs, effective August 1, 2025, will apply to imports entering the US seven days after the announcement, as stated on the White House's website. - Bernama

60,000 TVET applications show rising demand for vocational training

TAIPING: Approximately 60,000 applications have been received for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses at vocational colleges nationwide, reflecting growing interest in skills-based education. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the strong response underscores TVET's appeal as a pathway for youth development. 'We currently have a capacity of 17,000 places across 86 vocational colleges. 'Programmes are continuously developed to strengthen vocational training, enhance practical skills, and expand job opportunities for graduates,' he told reporters after officiating the Taiping Air Festival 2025 at Tekah Airport. Wong, who is also Taiping MP, noted that TVET graduate employability has reached 99% in recent years. 'This achievement shows vocational graduates can pursue further studies or stable employment with their acquired skills,' he added. - Bernama
