DPCC launches innovation challenge to reduce emissions from overage vehicles

Time of India3 days ago
New Delhi: The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will launch an innovation challenge focusing on identifying and promoting low-cost, easy-to-maintain and effective technological solutions capable of reducing or absorbing PM2.5 and PM10 emissions (at least twice the amount emitted) from End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) operating within the territory of Delhi.
A standing order was issued by the environment minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, to the DPCC on Thursday in this regard. The order stated that the proposed technologies or devices may be fitted inside or externally on the vehicle and be designed to neutralise, capture or offset PM2.5 and PM10 pollutants beyond the levels emitted by the ELV.
The solutions should emphasise affordability for end-users, ease of installation and maintenance, scalability and real-world feasibility.
"The challenge shall be launched within 30 days from the issue of this order, followed by evaluation and declaration of results within 90 days of launch," the order said.

The challenge will be open to individuals, startups, research institutions and technology developers across India. To select the technologies, an independent panel of technical experts should be constituted for the purpose of evaluating the submissions.
"A premier technical institute such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi shall be formally requested to lead this technical committee and participate in the evaluation and selection process.
The panel may also include representatives from environmental engineering institutes, automotive sector experts and members from the DPCC," said the order.
The order stated that the final report outlining the submissions received, the evaluation methodology and recommended solutions will be shared with the govt for final approval. "DPCC has been asked to show a formal outline of the project, including a problem statement, within five days from the issuance of this order."
The environment minister said, "Reducing vehicular pollution in Delhi is a challenge for us. Delhi govt is exploring all options to reduce vehicular pollution."

Delhi to link digital scales with ePoS at ration shops

New Delhi: In a move to enhance transparency and accountability in Delhi's Public Distribution System (PDS), the food and civil supplies department will soon integrate electronic point of sale (ePoS) devices with digital weighing machines at all 1,967 fair price shops (FPS) across the city. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This step aims to curb manipulation in manual weighing, which often leads to under-delivery of subsidised food grains. The digital system will reduce the scope for fraud and ensure accurate quantity delivery to beneficiaries, an official said. The decision was made on the instructions of food and civil supplies minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, after a meeting with department officials and the Delhi Sarkari Ration Dealers Sangh. "This integration is a long-awaited reform that will eliminate discrepancies and ensure real-time authentication," Sirsa stated. He directed all FPS dealers and officials to ensure regular maintenance of ePoS machines, stressing that no eligible beneficiary should be denied ration due to technical issues. He also reinforced the implementation of the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' (ONORC) scheme to ensure timely distribution of ration to migrant beneficiaries. "Strict action will be taken against FPS dealers who deny rightful ration under NFSA. All shops must clearly display ONORC eligibility details to help migrant beneficiaries access their entitlements easily," the official said. The integration will enable real-time weight data recording during transactions, helping prevent stock diversion and malpractices. tnn

Meet Yash Kumar, The Lead Behind OpenAI's ChatGPT Agent That Works By Self

Yash Kumar's Chatgpt Agent 2025: OpenAI recently introduced a new capability in its chatbot ChatGPT - the ChatGPT Agent, which can semi-autonomously perform digital tasks without requiring constant user intervention. The project is currently being led by Yash Kumar, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad. The new ChatGPT Agent is designed to handle tasks from start to finish - whether it's preparing meal plans, booking tickets, or summarizing meetings on your calendar. The agent can think, plan, and act on the user's behalf using its own virtual computer. It switches between browsers, applications, and terminals to complete tasks end-to-end. The tool is now available to users, but it remains a work in progress and continues to be improved. All About Yash Kumar- Educational and Corporate Background Yash Kumar, an Indian-origin technologist, is a Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters and currently serves as the project lead for the ChatGPT Agent. He joined OpenAI in 2023 and previously worked at several well-known companies, including Google, where he spent eight years, and DoorDash. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from IIT Hyderabad in 2011. In his previous roles, Yash primarily led engineering teams - including serving as head of the merchant engineering division at DoorDash and overseeing engineering, product, and design teams at Scratch. While the ChatGPT Agent is nearly autonomous, it still requires user approval for high-stakes actions such as purchases or logging into certain websites.
