'Evil personified': Melinda French Gates' old interview on Epstein viral as DOJ, FBI close case

Melinda Gates said Bill Gates' association with Jeffrey Epstein was one of the reasons behind their divorce.
The old video of Melinda French Gates from 2022 in which Melinda called Jeffrey Epstein 'evil personified' went viral Monday after the US administration brought the curtains down on the Epstein case.
In the interview, Melinda blamed Bill Gates' relationship with convicted pedophile Epstein as one of the reasons for their divorce. Melinda revealed in the CBS interview that she had met Epstein once, as she wanted to see who this person was.
"And I regretted it the second I stepped in the door. He (Epstein) was abhorrent. He was evil personified. I had nightmares about it afterwards, so my heart breaks for these young women," Melinda said adding that she made it clear to Bill that she did not like Epstein and his association with Epstein at all.

Melinda wrote about this experience in her memoir "The Next Day" that in 2019, NYT published a deeply disturbing article suggesting that Bill Gates had not only betrayed the marriage but also Melinda's values. NYT also reported that Epstein threatened to expose Bill's alleged affair with Russian bridge player Mila Antonova in 2017, after Bill declined to join Epstein's multi-billion-dollar charitable fund with JPMorgan Chase.

But Bill Gates was not accused of any sex offence and also expressed regret for his association with Epstein. "In retrospect, I was foolish to spend any time with him. I think I was quite stupid. I thought it would help me with global health philanthropy. In fact, it failed to do that. It was just a huge mistake," Bill Gates said.
Bill and Melinda finalized their divorce in August 2021 after 27 years of their marriage.
While Americans expected many more big names to come out of the stacks of files and documents and the exact nature of their relationship with Epstein, the FBI and the Department of Justice issued a joint an unsigned memo announcing that there was no incriminating Epstein client list. The investigation also concluded that Epstein died by suicide and was not murdered in jail.
MAGA activists had a major meltdown over the announcement and they called it a cover-up.

Out of school, back in uniform: UP girl's education resumes after CM Yogi's intervention; fee waived

Girl going back to school (ANI) A student named Pankhuri Tripathi, who had been unable to attend school for the past four months due to unpaid fees, is now back in class after the intervention of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath . Pankhuri approached the chief minister during a 'Janta Darbar' - a public grievance redressal forum, where she handed over a letter detailing her situation and seeking assistance. Moved by her appeal, CM Yogi Adityanath instructed that her school fees be waived. Pankhuri told ANI, "CM Yogi Adityanath accepted my request letter and waived off my school fees... My school has now started... I want to thank the chief minister, my principal, vice principal and all the officials..." Her father, Rajeev Kumar Tripathi, also praised the chief minister. "My daughter wasn't able to go to school for 4 months. She went to 'Janta Darbar' and met Yogi Adityanath, after which she was able to go to the top school once again. We thank Yogi Adityanath..." he said. A similar instance occurred on May 25, when a girl named Vashi approached CM Yogi Adityanath during a 'Janta Darshan' in Lucknow, seeking help for school admission. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Her request was met with a similar swift action. 'I asked him to enroll me in a school. Today, I got enrolled... I would like to thank him (CM Yogi Adityanath) for this,' Vashi told ANI. During the interaction, CM Yogi asked her about her school preference and desired class, and promptly directed officials to ensure her enrolment. The initiatives, part of the chief minister's regular 'Janta Darshan' sessions, highlight the administration's commitment to ensuring education access for underprivileged children in the state.

'No further inspection was done after Sigachi's self-compliance report': Safety violations included lack of fire systems, PPE, and emergency exits

HYDERABAD: A damning report just months ahead of the deadly explosion at Sigachi Industries exposed several glaring safety lapses at the factory. Among the key findings of the Dec 2024 inspection report were the absence of an inert gas suppression system in panel boards, battery rooms, and UPS setups. The factory also failed to install automatic fire extinguishing appliances and fire-resistant dampers, which should have been interlocked with heat or smoke detectors. Deficiencies in emergency preparedness, such as insufficient fire exits from machinery halls, inadequate firefighting equipment, untrained workers, and a complete lack of personal protective gear such as safety belts, shoes, gloves or goggles, were also identified. Self-Compliance, Without Follow-Up Deputy chief inspector of factories, Sangareddy, K Gowri Shankar told TOI that the inspection, which usually occurs in Dec every year, was carried out by Nehru under the practice of cross-district assignments. "The inspection identified violations, but no show-cause notice was issued," he said, adding, "in such cases, companies submit a self-compliance report online, and no further inspection is done." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Another official of the department said that "dirt stuck in a spray dryer might have ignited, leading to a dust explosion, and other multiple aspects, like overheating and faulty electric lines, are being looked into." Importantly, Sigachi Industries did not submit its annual return at the time of inspection - a statutory requirement under the Factories Act. However, Sigachi claimed: "The self compliance report of revised good manufacturing practices (GMP) schedule M was filed as per CDSCO." "There was no overcrowding of equipment and adequate space was provided to facilitate our material flow and ergonomic working conditions," Sigachi said. Combustible dust, risks ignored K Babu Rao, former chief scientist at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), reviewed the inspection report and raised concerns over the culture of compliance followed by factory inspections. "The inspections are based on a compliance-box-checking culture, not a risk-sensitive, enforcement-oriented regulatory regime," he said. Babu Rao pointed to systemic failures, including the absence of fire exits, PPE, safety training, and unsafe wiring, as well as the omission of combustible dust hazards, despite MCC powder being a highly flammable material. "This isn't a loophole. This is regulatory neglect," he said. He also noted the absence of any recorded follow-up action. "A facility handling flammable powder cannot be deemed compliant when it lacks basic firefighting measures and protective gear," he added.

Bharat Bandh on July 9: Over 25 crore workers to join nationwide strike, key services may be hit

NEW DELHI: More than 25 crore workers across sectors including banking, insurance, postal services, coal mining, and construction are expected to join a nationwide general strike on Wednesday, potentially disrupting key services across India, according to a joint forum of central trade unions. The strike, described as a ' Bharat Bandh ', has been called by a forum of 10 central trade unions and their associates to protest against what they term 'anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-national pro-corporate policies of the government'. In a statement, the forum said, 'Preparations have been taken up in earnest by unions in all sectors of the formal and informal/unorganised economy' and urged supporters to make the strike a 'grand success.' 'All India Trade Union Congress's Amarjeet Kaur said, 'More than 25 crore workers are expected to take part in the strike. Farmers and rural workers will also join the protest across the country.' Harbhajan Singh Sidhu of Hind Mazdoor Sabha added, 'Banking, postal, coal mining, factories, state transport services will be affected due to the strike.' The forum said it had earlier submitted a 17-point charter of demands to Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya but received no concrete response. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo It also alleged that the government had not conducted the annual labour conference for the past decade and was instead pushing through four labour codes that would weaken collective bargaining, cripple union activity, and favour employers in the name of 'ease of doing business'. It further claimed that economic policies were deepening unemployment, raising prices of essential commodities, suppressing wages, and reducing expenditure on education, health, and civic amenities, thereby widening inequality and burdening the poor, lower-income groups, and the middle class. The statement added, 'The government has abandoned the welfare state status of the country and is working in the interest of foreign and Indian corporates, and it is so evident from its policies being pursued vigorously.' The unions are also protesting against the privatisation of public sector enterprises, outsourcing, contractual employment, and casualisation of the workforce. They claim that the four labour codes passed in Parliament were designed to 'suppress and cripple the trade union movement, increase working hours, snatch workers' right to collective bargaining, right to strike, and decriminalise violation of labour laws by employers. ' 'We are demanding from the government to address unemployment, recruitments against sanctioned posts, creation of more jobs, increase in days and remuneration of MGNREGA workers and enactment of similar legislation for urban areas. But the government is busy imposing ELI (Employment Linked Incentive) scheme to incentivise employers instead,' the statement said. It also alleged that instead of hiring young professionals, government departments were increasingly recruiting retired personnel, as seen in Railways, NMDC Ltd, steel sector, and education services — a move the unions say is harmful to a country where 65 percent of the population is below the age of 35 and unemployment is highest among those aged 20 to 25. Unions from NMDC Ltd, non-coal minerals, steel, state government departments, and other public sector enterprises have also served notices for participation in the strike. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and a joint front of agricultural workers' unions have also extended support to the strike and announced large-scale mobilisation in rural areas. Similar nationwide strikes were observed by trade unions on November 26, 2020; March 28-29, 2022; and February 16, 2023.
