An Unsettled Weekend Lies Ahead, Sunshine Later This Week!
Tomorrow sees a cold front quickly following. As a result, the showers will continue on into the day, with thunderstorms developing toward the afternoon. While widespread severe activity is not expected, an isolated severe storm could make its way into our region. The main threats seen in tomorrow's storms will be small hail, wind, and isolated raised water. Remember to watch for pooling on the roads, and never try to cross standing water. Highs tomorrow will reach the mid 70s.
Monday sees a quick warm-up from the low 60s to the upper 70s. Scattered light rain can be expected in the morning before another cold front rolls through providing more thunderstorms. Again, a widespread severe threat is not anticipated, but daytime heating and a strong southerly breeze will create the potential for a severe storm or two, with the primary threats being damaging winds and a hailstone here and there. Highs will reach the upper 70s.

Tuesday morning will bring leftover showers as a result of moisture coming off the Great Lakes, with those showers fizzling out by the mid-afternoon. Temperatures will rise from the low 60s to the upper 70s.
Wednesday sees high pressure settling in, giving us a nice, sunny day. Drier conditions as a result of that higher pressure will cause temperatures to quickly rise from the mid 50s to the upper 70s.
Thursday, that high pressure holds strong! Abundant sunshine and highs in the low 80s will make for a great day to go on a hike!

Friday sees showers roll in by the early afternoon, lasting through the night as a result of a stalled boundary seated near the southern West Virginia border. Temperatures will rise from the low 60s to the low 80s.
Saturday sees those showers continue on, strengthening throughout the day. Lows will be in the mid 60s, and highs will be in the low 80s.
Looking ahead at your extended forecast, expect those showers to hang around for a couple more days, accompanying highs in the upper 70s.

Air quality alert continues in Minnesota as weather turns cooler, less humid
An air quality alert covering the entire state of Minnesota continues on Thursday, marring otherwise fairly ideal weather conditions. The alert will remain in effect through 5 p.m. on Saturday, with smoke from Canadian wildfires keeping air quality index levels in the unhealthy categories. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has the latest AQI forecasts on its website. This is one of the longest air quality alerts on record, tying with those issued for St. Louis County during the Greenwood fire in 2021, according to the agency. Aside from the smoke, cooler, drier air remains in place, with highs in the 70s and low humidity making for comfortable conditions. The smoke will likely clear out by Saturday afternoon, leaving the rest of the weekend feeling mostly pleasant. Our next chance for rain arrives late Sunday into Monday, with more storm chances in the forecast for next week.

Cold front moves through Pittsburgh on Thursday with scattered storms
Today is the day of change many have been waiting for after an unusually hot and very humid stretch of weather across Western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia. A cold front has moved into the northern half of our area already this morning and has begun to stall out around the Pittsburgh metro. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos A trough or shortwave of low pressure in the upper levels will move atop this boundary today, triggering showers and storms as it interacts with the moisture in and around this boundary. For areas north of HWY 422 toward I-80, these locations will likely experience widespread steady to moderate rain beginning mid-morning through late afternoon. Where the air is most unstable, thunderstorms are expected to develop starting around 1 p.m. and last through the early evening hours, with east and southeast portions of the Pittsburgh metro into the Laurel Highlands most likely to see some thunderstorm activity. There is some stronger wind shear today, which will help to organize storms to persist a bit longer and be more robust, so hail ranging from pea-sized to dime-sized is possible along with gusty winds up to 60mph. Areas southwest of Pittsburgh will likely have lower coverage of storms due to weaker amounts of lift. Skies will remain cloudy later this evening into the overnight hours as drier and cooler air moves in behind the advancing cold front. Lows tomorrow will likely end up in the low 60s and upper 50s for most, with highs reaching the mid to upper 70s by the afternoon with clearing skies. High pressure looks to settle in behind the front going into this weekend with daytime highs on Saturday and Sunday near to slightly below normal and lows fairly comfortable overnight in the mid to upper 50s for most. High pressure will move east of our region slowly next week, allowing the return of warmer air, although moisture levels shouldn't be too unbearable for the first part of the week.
