In a statement, the Cyber Security Association of China said that US actors had been linked to two major cyberattacks on Chinese military companies without naming them. They exploited flaws in Microsoft Exchange to control the servers of a key company in the defense sector for nearly a year, it added.
Microsoft has repeatedly blamed China for major cyberattacks involving Microsoft Exchange. In 2021, an alleged Chinese operation compromised tens of thousands of Microsoft Exchange servers. In 2023, another alleged Chinese attack on Microsoft Exchange compromised senior US government officials' email accounts.

More recently, Microsoft said Chinese state-backed hacking groups had exploited vulnerabilities in its SharePoint file sharing software. Microsoft SharePoint is widely regarded as one of the biggest security breaches ever that impacted organisations world wide, including several US government departments. Chinese "threat actors" have hacked some Microsoft SharePoint servers and targeted the data of the businesses using them, the company said.
According to reports, hackers breached about 400 government agencies, corporations and other groups around the world. According to cybersecurity researchers, most of the victims are in the US, followed by Mauritius, Jordan, South Africa and the Netherlands. Microsoft released security updates in response and advised all on-premises SharePoint server customers to install them.
In response to Microsoft's claims, China's US embassy spokesman said in a statement, "China firmly opposes and combats all forms of cyber attacks and cyber crime."

Goa drafts policy to promote bioenergy, reduce fossil fuel dependence
Panaji: The draft Goa bioenergy policy focuses on adopting biofuels and bioenergy products across the state, reducing emissions caused by fossil fuels, and, in turn, becoming a leader in bioenergy and biofuel production. This contributes to national energy security goals. The policy intends to cover all aspects related to bioenergy, including biofuel production, distribution, utilisation of technologies in the sector, and the availability of resources to produce bioenergy-related products. The objective of the policy is to promote the adoption of bioenergy products in Goa, to reduce dependence on fossil fuel consumption and increase the use of biofuel as alternatives. It aims to encourage the sustainable use of agricultural residues, cooking oil, non-food biomass, and municipal solid waste for bioenergy production. The policy also focuses on developing an integrated supply chain and infrastructure to collect, store, and transport these as raw materials for bioenergy production. It seeks to develop clusters across the state in a decentralised manner, involving communities and panchayats in the adoption of bioenergy in the state. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Best SIP Plans for NRIs in Ukraine – Get ₹2L Monthly Pension | Invest ₹18K PB Learn More Undo Additionally, it aims to develop an aggregator model that creates a supply chain for the sale and purchase of bioenergy products and their raw materials. Through the policy, govt intends to provide opportunities in skilling, employment, and entrepreneurship, support research, development, and innovation in biofuel technology, and set up a biomass digital market through the GEDA for the aggregation of biomass, transport of biomass, and other biomass-related activities. Under the policy, govt will provide incentives for biofuel manufacturing units and biomass supply chain units. Biomass briquette/pellet manufacturing plants, biomass-based steam generation plants, biomass supply chain companies, and the conversion of existing sewage treatment plants are eligible under the scheme. Existing plants may expand or diversify, but they are eligible for incentives only for the additional capacity being added through the scheme. A senior govt officer said that Goa is developing into a state that is seeing increasing interest from various corporations to set up their offices and facilities. Apart from this, Goa has been the go-to destination for tourism in the country. All these aspects indicate an increase in energy consumption and waste generation, which needs to be addressed. Goa also has very high emissions through transportation, which need to be addressed through adopting various biofuels and bioenergy technologies. 'The state acknowledges the pivotal role of biofuels in enhancing energy security by reducing dependence on imported fuels, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and fostering employment opportunities in rural areas. This scheme presents a holistic framework aimed at establishing a resilient and sustainable biofuel ecosystem within the state,' the officer said. ‘We want to disrupt the luxury car segment'
How has been the drive so far, especially on the EV front? We are standing for technology and safety. Those two factors have been very well-received by our customers. As we look at our next chapter, we realise there are a couple of trends that are shaping the country. One, luxury brands across categories are actually moving at a very fast pace. Secondly, the penetration of new energy vehicles in the luxury segment is much higher than it is in mass brands. That also presents an opportunity as that segment has not really been disrupted yet. It's been headed by a couple of OEMs all along. We believe that much like in the mass segment, we have been able to create some level of disruption in the luxury space in such a short time. So, what are your plans for the luxe space? The first one is the Cyberster (launched on July 25 at Rs 75 lakh apiece), which is a roadster and is a sports car. The second is the M9, our first luxury MPV and it's the longest and the widest in the segment. Both these cars are going to stay true to our brand promise. These two vehicles will have technologies that you have never seen before and are going to have safety features that you have never seen before. And it is going to create experiences that you have never experienced before. You have seen a runaway success with the Windsor, primarily because of its pricing. Why the switch to luxury now? The overall luxe car space is about 50,000 units per annum. We are playing in a fairly niche segment, and that is the segment we want to disrupt. Given your relationship/partnership with the Chinese firm Saic Motor, how good or bad is your rare earth materials position? We are as impacted or not impacted as anybody else. It impacts not just EVs, but ICE products as well. And it is very important to ensure that as an industry, we work alongside the government and our national body SIAM to have this addressed. Our production is unlikely to be impacted in the immediate future, but we are watching the situation very carefully. Because at this point of time, we have a longer lead time of three-four months of cycle. What about your partnership with Saic? Is it not an advantage? I don't think it is a question of advantage or disadvantage. For one, it is a very serious issue. Because it impacts many components, both in ICE and EVs. If someone thinks this is only impacting EVs that is not true. Very importantly the SIAM is working very closely with the government to ensure that this issue does not impact production of all vehicles.

Onion, potato highest imported vegetables in Goa in 2024-25
Panaji: In the fiscal year 2024–25, onion and potato topped the list of vegetables imported into Goa, with over 13,471.5 tonnes of onion and 12,179 tonnes of potato brought in from other states, revealed the data shared by the Goa State Horticulture Corporation Ltd (GSHCL) at the ongoing state assembly session. 'The gap between the quantity of local vegetables procured and the vegetables imported by GSHCL is 20,639 metric tonnes,' said agriculture minister Ravi Naik in his reply to an LAQ tabled by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Lourenco. Vegetables are mainly sourced from the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), with Karnataka and Maharashtra serving as the primary supplier states. Goa imports a total of 49 types of vegetables and greens from these states. The data also reveal the variety and volume of vegetables imported by GSHCL. Smaller quantities of vegetables such as brinjal, cucumber, drumstick, and garlic variants were imported in lesser amounts. Some items, such as garlic (medium and large) recorded zero imports in 2024–25, while herbs like curry leaves and mint (pudina) were brought in modestly. Despite the heavy reliance on imports, the agriculture minister emphasised that Goa continues to cultivate a variety of vegetables locally. The centre aims to enhance agricultural productivity and quality in Goa by providing farmers with advanced technology, high-quality seedlings, and training. It will serve as a platform for rapid technology transfer, enabling farmers to increase their yield and potentially export vegetables,' Naik stated.
