IPL 2025: RCB batter ruled out due to injury ahead of IPL playoffs

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have suffered a setback in IPL 2025, with top-order batter Devdutt Padikkal being ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury. The Bengaluru-based franchise, currently sitting second on the points table just behind Gujarat Titans on Net Run Rate, acted quickly by bringing in Mayank Agarwal as Padikkal's replacement for the rest of the tournament.
Padikkal, who had been underwhelming in previous IPL editions, found his form this season while batting at No. 3 for RCB. He scored 247 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 150.61—his best in any IPL campaign—and notched up two half-centuries before injury cut his season short.

In his place, RCB have turned to experienced campaigner Mayank Agarwal. The 34-year-old has featured in 127 IPL matches, recording one century and 13 fifties over his career. Agarwal began his IPL journey with RCB and has since represented several franchises. Most recently with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024, he had a quiet season, scoring just 64 runs in four appearances. After going unsold in the last auction, Agarwal now rejoins RCB for a fee of INR 1 crore, hoping to make an impact in the business end of the season.

Maharaja T20 Looking For Match Venues As Chinnaswamy Yet To Receive Clearance: Report

Last Updated: M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hasn't cleared for Maharaja T20 because of an investigation. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hasn't received clearance to host the Maharaja T20 tournament, with the Karnataka State Cricket Association now searching for venues to play the tournament at, as Chinnaswamy has been mired in controversy for almost two months now, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo. The Maharaja T20 is all set to take place from August 11 to 27 and the KSCA needs to find venues with 10 days in hand. The police have withheld clearance because of the ongoing investigation into the June 4 stampede that occurred near the stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL winning celebrations. An independent CID investigation into the incident, which left 11 dead and over 50 injured, is still underway. The KSCA is now exploring alternative venues, including its facility in Alur on the outskirts of Bengaluru, as well as the Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru. Although Alur boasts excellent drainage and infrastructure, the lack of floodlights poses a significant challenge for broadcasters. According to the report, Alur is all set to host the group games of the six-day women's T20 competition, the Maharani T20, from August 4. The Karnataka State Cricket Association had been considering hosting the women's final at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but that now appears uncertain as police approval is still pending. As the Karnataka State Cricket Association contends with the prospect of a last-minute venue change, teams have expressed frustration over the financial losses they now stand to incur. Teams had already booked hotels for players and staff based on the assumption that the entire Maharaja T20 would take place in central Bengaluru. Bengaluru is all set to host the opening game of the Women's ODI World Cup, along with one semifinal and the final which has put the state association in massive thought over the pending police case. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. One detail that caught the netizens' attention was Lalit Modi's tie, which had the IPL logo on its tip. Last month, Lalit Modi hosted an annual summer party in London with his 310 friends and family, and one of the attendees was Mallya. The highlight of the celebrations was Modi and Mallya singing 'I Did It My Way' by Frank Sinatra on karaoke. Lalit Modi, who previously served as the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is accused of alleged bid-rigging, money laundering, and violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA). He left India in 2010 while under investigation for alleged financial misconduct, including unauthorised fund transfers. On the other hand, Mallya is an accused in a bank loan default case of over Rs 9,000 crore from an SBI-led consortium, involving his defunct Kingfisher Airlines. Mallya left for the UK in 2016 and was declared a fugitive in 2019. He has been living in the UK since then. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
