MADRID (AP) — Spain coach Sergio Scariolo will take over Real Madrid's basketball team after EuroBasket, the club said Thursday.
Scariolo had announcement Wednesday that he would not continue with the national team after the 24-team tournament — Europe's continental championship — ends in September.

Madrid parted ways with coach Chus Mateo and said that Scariolo will arrive on a three-year contract until June 2028.
'Scariolo, one of the most prestigious coaches in world basketball, arrives at Real Madrid after a brilliant career at the helm of the Spanish national team, where he has become the most successful coach in its history,' the club said in its announcement.
Scariolo helped lead Spain to eight medals: five gold (2019 World Cup, 2009 EuroBasket, 2011 EuroBasket, 2015 EuroBasket and 2022 EuroBasket), one silver (2012 London Olympics) and two bronze (2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and 2017 EuroBasket).
The Italian was an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors when it won the NBA title in the 2018-19 season.

The 64-year-old Scariolo was in his second stint with Spain. He had previously coached Madrid from 1999-2002.
Spain is the defending EuroBasket champion. This year, it is in Group C along with Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Georgia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

'Significant signing' or 'very underwhelming'?

We asked for your views on the signing of midfielder Thelo Aasgaard after he completed a deal to join Rangers from Luton Town. Here's what some of you had to say: Hector: Yet another signing from a team relegated to the lower divisions in England. This is patronising to the Scottish Premiership and the club's fanbase, and is obviously sub-standard for European competition at any level. Advertisement Gary: Great bit of business - stood out a mile when I have watched him play. Still young and only going to get better and I think he has a big future in the game. Bob: Brilliant signing, looking forward to seeing him score lots of goals. Wes: Super excited about this signing! He is so creative and has goals in his locker also. Scored on his international debut earlier this year for his country, and I can see him being a permanent fixture from now on. Only going to get better and better, mark my words! David: Very underwhelming signing, much the same feelings as when new manager was unveiled. Please overachieve, we need players who can walk into this team. Advertisement Brian: This is another significant signing and the indications are there's more to come. I sense Russell Martin is building a team for an eventful and hopefully successful season - Aasgaard is a real talent and we should be getting excited at seeing how quickly these new players gel to create a winning team. My only concern is the goalkeeper situation - a weak link in all this activity.

📱 Football needs you: Musiala receives plenty of support after the drama

📱 Football needs you: Musiala receives plenty of support after the drama The serious injury suffered by Jamal Musiala in the Club World Cup quarterfinal match between FC Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain was a huge shock. Naturally, the 22-year-old also received a great deal of support on social media. Among others, Florian Wirtz reached out via Instagram with a short message to his friend and national team colleague. Neymar also sent his sympathy to the exceptional player. He wrote: "I hope you recover quickly, come back and shine again. Football needs you. Stay strong." Achraf Hakimi was also on the pitch during the incident and wished the Bayern star a speedy recovery in his post-match interview. "I want to support him. I hope he comes back soon and we see him on the pitch again," said the Moroccan to 'DAZN'. Advertisement Even the criticized PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma spoke out on IG. "All my prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery are with you, Jamal Musiala," wrote the Italian goalkeeper on Instagram. PSG teammate and match-winner Désiré Doué also expressed his sympathy for the German international. "Good luck and lots of patience during this ordeal," wrote the scorer of the 1:0 against Bayern on Instagram. BVB boss Lars Ricken also wished the Bayern star a speedy recovery. Oliver Kahn joined in as well. The reaction from teammate Alphonso Davies, who is currently sidelined with a serious injury himself, was particularly emotional. The Canadian watched the game live on his Twitch channel and was visibly shocked. A diagnosis is now available: Musiala has apparently broken his fibula and is scheduled to undergo surgery today immediately upon his return to Munich. According to 'Sky' and 'Bild', he is expected to be sidelined for four to five months. Advertisement This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. Al-Nassr ready to battle Arsenal for Rodrygo

Al-Nassr are working hard to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo as they try to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season. According to Sky Sport Switzerland, the Saudi Pro League club has identified the Brazilian as a top transfer target. Advertisement Cristiano Ronaldo has urged Al-Nassr to sign Rodrygo to provide more support in attack. They are reportedly ready to give Rodrygo a blank cheque in a bid to lure him away from Spain. They have already made contact with the player's camp to discuss a possible move to the Middle East. However, Rodrygo is not entirely sold on the move and is aiming for a switch to the Premier League. Arsenal remain in the picture for Al-Nassr target While Al-Nassr push hard for a deal, Arsenal remain in the race to sign the Brazilian international. The Gunners have been monitoring the Madrid forward for months and could step up their efforts in the coming weeks. Advertisement Rodrygo would prefer a move to England over Saudi Arabia, but he is yet to decide his future. His position in the Madrid squad could change with the arrival of new signings and more competition for places. Madrid are not actively looking to sell, but a huge offer could force them to part ways with him.
