'The incident occurred around midday on Saturday, May 17, 2025 (local time), while the team was enroute to an official Directors' Fortnight event. While walking along the beachside promenade on Boulevard de la Croisette, a palm tree several meters tall suddenly fell. A LesPros Entertainment production producer escorting the cast was struck by the tree and sustained injuries in the unforeseen accident,' reads a statement shared with Variety by the production companies.
'The injured producer was immediately transported to a local hospital by emergency services. Medical examination confirmed fractures to the nose and parts of the body. Fortunately, the producer remained conscious and is currently in stable condition. Medical treatment and recovery will continue under professional supervision,' the statement adds.
As of their statement, the companies confirmed they have 'not received an official report regarding the incident from the festival organizers or local authorities.'
'Given that the Cannes Film Festival remains ongoing, and the incident took place in a highly frequented area, we sincerely hope for a swift investigation into the cause and the implementation of preventative measures to ensure such accidents do not happen again in the future,' the statement says.
Variety has reached out to the festival for comment.

Cardi B Claims She Threw Speaker At Rah Ali During Cannes Airport Argument, Rah Reacts
Cardi B claims that she and fellow Love & Hip Hop alum Rah Ali recently got into a heated exchange at the airport in Cannes, France, with Rah saying things didn't go down exactly as the Bronx rapper described. The 'Outside' artist shared the story during an X Spaces session late Thursday (July 31), where she described running into Ali and knowing she would have to get her lick back for their altercation during the 2018 Harper's BAZAAR ICONS Party, which Ali attended with friend, Nicki Minaj. 'I know that I'm grown and that I shouldn't have that mentality, but let's be f**king for real,' Cardi explained, saying Ali would've publicly deemed her a coward if she said nothing, going on to describe the night the former reality star allegedly hit her while she was held back by Minaj's security. 'Your friend's security and you attacked me…the security grabbed me and you attacked me, and if you thought I was gonna let that sh*t fly, you outta your f**king mind.' 'I can't live and die knowing that somebody did put they hands on me and I never did nothing back,' she said. 'Bi**h, I'm from the Bronx, you from the Bronx. You know what's up.' Cardi goes on to claim that Rah Ali stared her down while in the airport, resulting in Cardi starting an argument. When Ali dismissed the rapper, telling her to 'grow up,' Cardi claims she then threw a JBL portable speaker at Ali's head. Hear Cardi explain it all below. The confession followed Ali's description of events earlier that day, admitting that they did get into an argument, but claiming that Cardi threw shoes and bags at her, not a speaker. Ali doubled-down on this after Cardi made her claims. 'I will always be ready to protect myself at all cost, however at this stage in my life I'm not interested in making poor choices,' she wrote on X. 'Anything and everything I execute is thoroughly calculated. With that being said, had anyone in this whole world hit ME in my head with a speaker, you in fact would be viewing footage of me in handcuffs. I promise to God that did not happen.' She concluded, 'If it makes her feel better, I encourage you all to support that version. Mentally I can handle it, I don't mind. I will NOT be on this app acting a fool.' See her posts below. Following the original incident, Nicki Minaj described the fight between Rah and Cardi on Queen Radio, saying, 'Rah [Ali] really, really beat Cardi's ass bad. Like really bad. … The hardest punches you've ever heard in your life.' American Eagle Defends Sydney Sweeney Ad Campaign Amid Controversy: ‘Her Jeans. Her Story… Great Jeans Look Good on Everyone'
American Eagle is standing by its controversial ad campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney, which includes various commercials with the tagline: 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.' The campaign creates a pun around 'great genes,' which ignited outrage online over American Eagle glorifying the Emmy nominee's white heritage and thin physique. Some users on social media even compared the ads to 'Nazi propaganda.' 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story,' the company said in a statement posted on social media. 'We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone. More from Variety JD Vance Urges Democrats Angry Over Sydney Sweeney Jeans Ads to Keep It Up: 'Continue to Tell Everybody' Who Thinks She Is Attractive That They're 'a Nazi' White House Says Liberal Outrage Over Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle Jeans Commercial Is 'Moronic' and a 'Big Reason Americans' Voted for Trump Katy O'Brian Says Sydney Sweeney 'Didn't Care' About Getting Hurt During Fight Scenes in Christy Martin Biopic: 'She Was Like, "If You Break My Nose, That's Fine"' Sweeney's American Eagle campaign caused so much chatter online that even Trump's White House weighed in on the backlash, with communications manager Steven Cheung calling the backlash a prime example of 'cancel culture run amok.' 'This warped, moronic and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024,' Cheung added. 'They're tired of this bullshit.' Vice president JD Vance also mocked liberals for creating a hysteria around the American Eagle campaign, saying on an episode of the 'Ruthless' podcast: 'My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy.' Vance continued, 'I mean, it actually reveals something pretty interesting about the Dems, though, which is that you have, like, a normal all-American beautiful girl doing like a normal jeans ad, right? They're trying to sell, you know, sell jeans to kids in America and they have managed to so unhinge themselves over this thing. And it's like, you guys, did you learn nothing from the November 2024 election? I actually thought that one of the lessons [Democrats] might take is we're going to be less crazy. And the lesson they have apparently taken is we're going to attack people as Nazis for thinking Sydney Sweeney is beautiful.' Even Stephen Colbert, who frequently speaks out against Trump and the White House, called the backlash against Sweeney and American Eagle overblown 'Now, some people look at [the ads] and they're seeing something sinister, saying that the genes-jeans denim wordplay in an ad featuring a white blond woman means American Eagle could be promoting eugenics, white supremacy and Nazi propaganda,' Colbert said this week on 'The Late Show.' 'That might be a bit of an overreaction.' Sweeney has yet to publicly comment on the outcry over the advertisements. 'And Just Like That' showrunner Michael Patrick King announced the 'Sex and the City' franchise is ending with 'And Just Like That' Season 3, prompting Parker to post an emotional clip montage of Carrie's best moments on her Instagram alongside a poem about the character's end. 'Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,' Parker wrote. 'I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all.'
