How Trump's media war came for CBS
Donald Trump has spent the past decade waging war on the media. That has included filing frequent lawsuits against media organizations whose coverage he views as unfavorable. Those lawsuits have been largely unsuccessful, until recently.
Last week, Paramount announced it was settling a lawsuit brought by Trump against CBS News over the news program '60 Minutes.' Although many legal experts believed the case was unlikely to succeed at trial, Paramount chose to settle for $16 million.
Elahe Izadi talks to reporter Sarah Ellison about the origins of the case, why Paramount would choose to settle, and what implications the settlement has for the wider media landscape.

Bruce Springsteen joins Zach Bryan for surprise 'Atlantic City' performance: Watch
Even Bruce Springsteen isn't too big for a cameo. The Boss joined musicians Zach Bryan and Caleb Followill of the Kings of Leon for a rendition of his 1982 classic "Atlantic City" at Bryan's July 20 MetLife Stadium show in New Jersey. The Kings of Leon and Jersey-based Rock band Front Bottoms were the openers for the concert, while Springsteen, 75, was a surprise guest, joining later for a quick-lick guitar solo on Bryan's track "Revival" during the encore. "Proud to call him my hero, one of the greatest songwriters to ever live," Bryan said before introducing the legendary rocker. "If you guys will have him, this is Bruce Springsteen!" Bryan, 29, has followed in Springsteen's singer-songwriter footsteps, often folding angst into his scratchy, smoker's vocals and genre-bending music, which features a cocktail of folk, country and soul. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band still rock, quake and shake after 50 years Springsteen joined Bryan on stage last year in Brooklyn and Philadelphia, lending old-school rocker legitimacy to an emerging act. The two also collaborated on the track "Sandpaper" off Bryan's 2024 album, "The Great American Bar Scene." The July 20 show was the third for Bryan this weekend at MetLife, the first time a country artist played three nights in a single stand at the venue. Springsteen is fresh off the release of a previously unheard cache of tracks from years passed. On "Tracks II: The Lost Albums," the Boss treats fans to the musical roads not taken, with mystic, ranchera, and rock music blending on a masterful mix of some 83 songs. Ford Foundation's outgoing president joins the board of Obama Foundation
Darren Walker's post-Ford Foundation future is starting to take shape, as the outgoing president is now set to join The Obama Foundation's board of directors. The Obama Foundation, the Chicago-based nonprofit of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama focused on encouraging active involvement in democracy through initiatives like the My Brother's Keeper Alliance and the Obama Youth Jobs Corps, announced Monday that Walker would join the board on Nov. 1. 'Darren Walker is an outstanding example of what it means to lead with purpose in philanthropy,' President Obama said in a statement. 'Darren's work to challenge long-held assumptions, stand up to injustice, and build unlikely partnerships aligns perfectly with the mission of the Obama Foundation. His experience and insight will sharpen our thinking and deepen our impact as we help the next generation of leaders change their world for the better.' Walker, 65, who has led the Ford Foundation since 2013 and oversaw major investments in gender equity and disability rights, is one of philanthropy's best-known leaders. He has been one of Rolling Stone's '25 People Shaping the Future' and Time's '100 Most Influential People.' 'Joining The Obama Foundation Board feels like coming home to everything I believe about leadership and change,' Walker said in a statement. 'I believe deeply in the power of individuals to change the world, and I'm honored to work with President and Mrs. Obama to help empower and support the next generation of changemakers.' In addition to his new role at the Obama Foundation, Walker has already been named president of the National Gallery of Art.
