VS Achuthanandan's cremation: Arrangements in place in Alappuzha

Kottayam: V S Achuthanandan will be cremated with state honours at Valiya Chudukadu in Alappuzha on Wednesday evening.
The funeral procession is expected to reach Velikkakath house around 9am and the mortal remains will be kept there for nearly an hour.
The body will be then taken to the CPM's district committee office, where it will be kept for public viewing for one hour.
It will be kept at the Recreation Ground at the beach until 3pm. The funeral procession will start from there and reach Valiya Chudukadu via Thiruvambady Junction around 4pm.
At Valiya Chudukadu, VS will be cremated next to the tombs of communist leaders P Krishna Pillai, P K Kunjappan, N Sreedharan, T V Thomas, P K Chandranandan, K R Gowri and P T Punnoose.
Special arrangements, including a 1000-seat pandal, have been made for VIPs, including the chief minister. A condolence meeting will be held after the funeral.
Holiday declared in Alappuzha
The govt declared a holiday for all state govt offices, including PSUs, educational institutions including professional colleges, statutory bodies, autonomous institutions and all institutions under the purview of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, in Alappuzha district on Wednesday.

A medical team, including an ambulance, has been deployed throughout the funeral procession and at the places where public viewing and funeral services are being held. Emergency departments have been set up at Alappuzha Govt Medical College, Alappuzha General Hospital, Kayamkulam Taluk Hospital, Haripad Taluk Hospital and UHTC Ambalappuzha to deal with emergencies.
Necessary arrangements have also been made at Krishnapuram Family Health Centre.
Traffic restrictions
Police have imposed traffic restrictions in Alappuzha town on Wednesday. Vehicular traffic through Pazhaya Nadakkavu Road has been banned completely until Wednesday 11am in view of the public viewing of VS's mortal remains at his house.
Vehicles from Ernakulam and Thanneermukkom must take Power House Junction-Convent Square-Kannan Varkey Bridge-Collectorate Junction-W&C Hospital-Beach Road and drop people on the west side of the Police Parade Ground before heading via Vijaya Park to park the vehicle on the canal side.
Vehicles coming via MC Road must take GH Junction-W&C Hospital-Beach Road and drop people on the west side of Police Parade Ground and head via Vijaya Park to park the vehicle on the canal side. Once the funeral procession starts from the residence, the vehicles coming from MC Road must take a left turn from Mankombu Pooppally and enter the highway via Ambalappuzha. Parking slots will be available in SD College ground and Chinmaya Vidyalaya.
Vehicles coming from Kayamkulam side must take GH Junction-W&C Hospital and drop people on the west side of Police Parade Ground before heading via Vijaya Park to the canal side. Small vehicles can be parked on the beach road.
There are restrictions for long-distance KSRTC buses entering the town on Wednesday.
