SAR reports 22% rise in passengers to 13.7M in 2024

Saudi Railway Co. (SAR) transported 13.7 million passengers across its networks in 2024, reflecting a 22% increase compared to 2023.
According to its statement on X, SAR also moved over 28 million tons of goods and minerals, achieving a 15% growth in the freight sector.
Additionally, through the Mashaer Train, SAR facilitated the transportation of more than 2 million pilgrims during the 1445H Hajj season, easing the pressure on land transportation.
The company highlighted that operational passenger train trips surpassed 35,000, a 19% increase from 2023, driven by the growing demand for trains as a safe and reliable mode of transport.
In freight, SAR played a key role in reducing over 2 million truck trips on the Kingdom's roads, saving more than 113 million liters of fuel and contributing to lower carbon emissions.

He also pointed to the Dammam facility expansion and the company's new regional headquarters as examples of PepsiCo's long-term investment in the Kingdom. Both initiatives reflect the company's alignment with national and regional economic priorities. Future Investment, Local Empowerment El Sheikh also shared PepsiCo's plans to further enhance its presence in Saudi Arabia. These include exploring new investment opportunities, supporting local agriculture, creating jobs, strengthening supply chains, and expanding exports. Currently, PepsiCo operates in 86 locations across the country and employs around 9,000 people. Moreover, at the Dammam facility, 84% of the workforce are Saudi nationals, and women make up approximately 22% of the total staff. Over the past eight years, PepsiCo has invested more than SAR 9 billion in the Kingdom. In 2023 alone, the company allocated SAR 300 million for the expansion and modernization of its Dammam plant, signaling its continued commitment to growth and innovation in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia welcomes 1.2 million Umrah pilgrims

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reported that more than 1.2 million pilgrims have arrived in the Kingdom to perform Umrah since the season launched. The faithful have traveled from 109 countries worldwide, reflecting surging international interest and the Kingdom's enhanced service capabilities for religious visitors. Ministry data shows a significant 30 percent jump in Umrah visa holders entering Saudi Arabia this year compared to the same period last year. Visa issuances also climbed 27 percent, while more than 4,200 partnership agreements were executed between domestic Umrah service providers and international agents, bolstering the Kingdom's capacity to accommodate the influx of pilgrims. The Umrah season was launched with digital visa processing handled through the government's Nusuk platform. The scheme represents the latest advancement in Saudi Arabia's efforts to streamline religious tourism as part of Vision 2030, the Kingdom's comprehensive modernization blueprint. Pilgrims have been able to secure Umrah permits directly through the Nusuk mobile application, which functions as a centralized digital gateway for pilgrim services. The platform offers streamlined booking and permit processing, complemented by additional digital tools designed to improve the overall pilgrimage experience.

Saudi Arabia and Russia have explored the progress achieved within the framework of Joint Saudi-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. As the co-chairs of the Commission, the Saudi Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, and the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Alexander Novak, met in Riyadh, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). During their meeting, both officials reviewed aspects of bilateral cooperation within the Commission's mandate. They also followed up on the progress achieved since the 8th session.
