Ganja seized from woman passenger at Coimbatore airport
Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit and Baggage Officers of Air Customs Unit seized 3.15 kg of ganja (hydroponic weed) from a woman passenger on June 6 at the Coimbatore International Airport.
Sources said the passenger, who is aged 22-23 years and is from Idukki in Kerala, was carrying ganja worth more than ₹3 crore in her checked-in baggage. She arrived at the Coimbatore airport from Bangkok via Singapore by flight TR 540 (Scoot flight).
Investigation is in progress under the NDPS ACT, 1986, read with the Customs Act, 1962. The operation was carried out by the Air Customs Office at the airport under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Coimbatore Airport, the sources said on Saturday (June 7, 2025).

Jammu, June 30 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police in its war against drugs this year so far have arrested 87 accused persons, seized narcotics worth Rs 2.42 crore and attached properties in Udhampur district. An official spokesman here today said that district police in Udhampur have intensified their war against narcotics and registered 61 cases under the NDPS Act. A total of 87 accused were arrested, including 80 under NDPS and 7 under PIT NDPS/PSA provisions; 22 vehicles used for narcotics transportation were seized; and additionally, six pharmacy shops were sealed for violating norms related to H1 drugs, said the spokesman. He further added that as part of financial disruption, 43 bank accounts linked to drug peddlers were frozen, involving an amount of Rs 16,72,948 and seized contraband during this period was valued at Rs 2.42 crore on the black market, including Heroin, Charas, Poppy Straw and Ganja. Further tightening the grip on drug networks, the spokesman added that Udhampur police attached properties worth Rs 4.69 crore, including multiple vehicles, residential houses, and commercial assets related to both NDPS and bovine smuggling cases. Moreover, police have also successfully secured convictions against 28 drug peddlers in 21 cases from courts, which marks the professional approach towards case investigation and prosecution, he added. Chandigarh: Four women among 5 held in Sector-38 house theft case
The police crime branch has solved a house theft case in Sector 38-A with the arrest of five individuals, including four women, who were part of a network exchanging stolen items for drugs. All five accused have been remanded to judicial custody and further investigation into the chain of drug distribution and possible linkages to other thefts is underway. (HT photo for representation) The case was filed by Ashutosh Sharma, a resident of Zirakpur. Sharma reported a theft at his brother's vacant residence in Sector 38-A, from which valuables including ₹ 23,000 in cash, six mobile phones, two cameras, three branded watches, jewellery, and other electronic items were stolen. Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed the accused, Nazim alias Arman, 25, a resident of Small Flats, Dhanas, on June 25 near Kishangarh Maternity Hospital. Upon search, police recovered ₹ 10,000 in cash and 4 stolen mobile phones. During interrogation, Nazim confessed to being a drug addict who specifically targeted vacant or locked homes in residential areas. He admitted to selling stolen goods to women residing in Sector 38-A in exchange for heroin. Based on his disclosure, a police team arrested four women on June 27. Among the four women arrested, one accused is Maya, a resident of Sector 38-A. She was found in possession of two stolen mobile phones. Police said that she has a prior criminal record with cases registered under Section 21 of the NDPS Act at PS-39. Another accused, Meenu, a resident of the same sector, was found with one stolen camera. Police said that she has two previous FIRs against her. Third accused Roopa, who was arrested with two stolen wrist watches, also has a history of involvement in serious offences. Fourth woman accused, Jinna, was found with one stolen wristwatch and a mobile power bank. No prior criminal record was mentioned in her case. All five accused have been remanded to judicial custody and further investigation into the chain of drug distribution and possible linkages to other thefts is underway.

State govt to launch massive anti-drug campaign shorty: Himachal CM Sukhu
Shimla (Himachal) [India], June 30 (ANI): In a bid to raise awareness against drug abuse, the Himachal Pradesh Police Department organised the 12th State Police Half Marathon in Shimla, an official statement said. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday felicitated the winners of the marathon, which featured participation in men's, women's, and senior citizens' categories. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister expressed serious concern over the involvement of government employees in drug-related activities. He said that strict action has already been taken against 80 government employees facing legal proceedings so far. He said even police personnel have been found involved in drug trafficking activities and added that the state government is considering amending the Police Manual to ensure greater accountability within the force, the release added. The Chief Minister said that the government is preparing to launch a large-scale anti-drug campaign in the near future. 'Mapping is being conducted at the panchayat ward level to facilitate targeted intervention,' he stated. The government is also forming a Special Task Force to clamp down on drug trafficking and recruitment process is already underway. Additionally, 500 new posts will be filled in the Police department to strengthen enforcement efforts, he added. 'Youth are the future of our nation, and protecting them from the menace of drugs is a collective responsibility,' said the Chief Minister, reiterating the government's policy of zero tolerance towards drug abuse. The CM stated that the state is working on a two-pronged strategy, strict enforcement and a sensitive approach towards victims. The present government has implemented the PIT-NDPS Act, which was not enforced during the previous BJP government's five-year tenure. Under this Act, 40 detention orders have been approved, 36 of which were issued this year. The government has also demolished properties belonging to seven drug peddlers and is actively pursuing action against others, he added. Furthermore, CM Sukhu said the state has passed the HP Anti-Drugs Act, which distinguishes between offenders and victims. The law adopts a rehabilitative approach towards drug users, aiming to bring them back into the mainstream of society. He urged parents to maintain open communication with their children and educate them about the harmful effects of drugs. He called upon all sections of society to actively participate in the anti-drug campaign to safeguard the future of the youth, the statement said. As part of the awareness drive, the Chief Minister also released a special song of 'Harmony of the Pines' dedicated to the anti-drug campaign. MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Principal Media Advisor to the CM Naresh Chauhan, Additional Chief Secretary KK Pant, DGP Ashok Tiwari, senior police officers and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
