Man found guilty of murdering Halifax optician in December 2021
Police say Cymon Felix Cormier entered the business and attacked a staff member, identified by police as 55-year-old Tony Nader.
A man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a Halifax optician in December 2021.
Justice Christa Brothers delivered the verdict Thursday morning, telling the court she found the fatal stabbing of 55-year-old Tony Nader to be planned and deliberate.
She did not accept the defence's argument that the accused, Cymon Felix Cormier, was not criminally responsible.
Nader was stabbed while at his workplace, Insight Optometry, on Brunswick Street the morning of Dec. 30, 2021.
Another man was inside the business and tried to intervene. He too was attacked and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Nader later died in hospital from his stab wounds.
Cormier was arrested a short time later and charged with first-degree murder in Nader's death. He was also charged with aggravated assault for injuring the man who intervened.
Cormier was found guilty Thursday of the lesser charge of assault causing bodily harm for attacking that man.

2 dead after crash involving 2 trucks south of Thorsby, Alta.
Two people are dead after a collision Saturday between two pickup trucks south of Thorsby. RCMP said in a media release Sunday evening officers went to the scene of a serious collision on Highway 778 at Township Road 490 about three kilometres south of the town. The two people inside a Chevrolet Silverado, a 31-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram involved in the crash was taken to hospital. The 41-year-old's medical status was not given. Police said early indications are the driver of the Dodge was heading west on Township Road 490 when they went through a stop sign and hit the northbound Chevrolet on the highway. Thorsby is 51 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.

1 dead in multi-vehicle crash on Stoney Trail S.W.
One person is dead and several others injured in a multi-vehicle crash along northbound Stoney Trail. We do not know seriously anyone may have been hurt or exactly how many vehicles were involved. Police say the collision happened around 6:17p.m. when multiple vehicles heading north on Stoney Trail collided between 17 Avenue and Bow Trail S.W.
