From the slopes to super computers, cerebral palsy doesn't stop UNM student
'I've heard many times people will stop us on the slopes and go, like, holy crap, that's awesome,' said Adams.

Adams has cerebral palsy, but he isn't afraid to push the boundaries. 'Most sit-down skiers that are tethered and can't use handheld outriggers, which are skis that attach to the end of your arms and flip up and turn into ski poles, most of those athletes are going to use what we call fixed outriggers,' said Bruce Hopper, Volunteer for ASPNM.
But Adams isn't like most athletes. He loves the thrill of skiing without the fixed outriggers. 'He's allowed to ski more independently and tip the ski over into the turn much more aggressively,' said Adams.
'It's just having all of us feel excitement when that happens,' said Adams.
This year, ASPNM awarded Adams the 2025 Athlete of the Year. He also shines in the classroom. Adams just finished the second year of his Ph.D. program in computer science. 'I always liked computers since I was young because I cannot write, so I use the computer to communicate. And that is crucial in our lives,' said Adams.
And just like on the slopes, Adams has come up with his own way to ace exams. Since 2019, Adams has been working with a UNM accommodations specialist, who helped him as a scribe during tests. Adams created his own symbols sheet as he moved through higher levels of math, so now others can use it in the future. 'The symbol sheet is helpful for the person who is scribing just because of the complexity of the problems,' said Carol Bartlett, Accommodations Specialist with the Accessibility Resource Center at UNM.
Those who've worked with Adam say there's no one like him. 'I have no doubt that Mike is going to invent something incredible in the world,' said Bartlett.

The Houston Texans are officially 50 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has worn No. 50 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 50 No. 50 currently belongs to second-year defensive end Solomon Byrd. Mostly found on the practice squad in 2024, the former seventh-round pick did appear in two games last season and recorded a tackle. He's going to need a promising training camp to earn a spot on the active 53-man roster, but given his work ethic, perhaps Houston keeps him around as an option for the practice squad a second straight year. With Byrd barely playing over his lone season with the Texans, he's obviously not the best player to don No. 50, which begs the question: who is? Best Player: Tyrell Adams With the passing of Braman, we want to give a shoutout for his efforts during his time in Houston and the impact he's made to those in the area. On the field, however, Adams was the most consistent player and led all players in tackles who donned the jersey with 141 stops, six sacks and three forced fumbles. Picking are slim, but Adams was a reliable special-teams option and a decent No. 4 linebacker for three seasons. He started 14 games and averaged roughly 7.8 tackles per appearance. It's a solid number for a linebacker who was projected to be a practice squad player. And among the long 2020 COVID-19 season, Adams was one of the few defensive bright spots, notching 120 tackles and a career-best 12 starts. One solid season for the Texans did enough of the heavy lifitng to earn him the accolade over Anderson and Braman, though both made solid cases.

Adams Jr. throws three TDs, Stampeders continue dominance with 41-20 win over Bombers
WINNIPEG - The Calgary Stampeders continued their dominance of the CFL on Friday night. Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. completed 16 of 24 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Stampeders to a 41-20 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Calgary improved to 5-1 and sits alone atop the CFL's West Division. Winnipeg dropped to 3-2 before a sold-out crowd of 32,343 at Princess Auto Stadium, an eighth straight full house. Vernon completed TD throws of 37 and 42 yards to Damien Alford before finding Dominique Rhymes with a three-yard toss. Calgary's defence also picked off Winnipeg's quarterbacks four times, with Damon Webb intercepting a Chris Streveler pass and returning it 15 yards for a touchdown. The convert gave the Stamps a 38-13 lead early in the fourth quarter. It was the second time the Stamps stomped Winnipeg in the last three weeks. They beat the Bombers 37-16 in Calgary three weeks ago. Backup quarterback Quincy Vaughn also scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Rene Parades kicked field goals of 32 and 37 yards, and converted all seven majors. Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros exited in the second quarter with what's believed to be a concussion after falling to the field from a hit. He completed eight of 11 passes for 151 yards and a four-yard touchdown to Nic Demski, with two interceptions, before Streveler took over. Streveler completed 15 of 24 passes for 128 yards and one late eight-yard touchdown to Kody Case, with two picks. Sergio Castillo kicked field goals of 46 and 58 yards and converted both TDs. Calgary had upped the score to 31-13 when Adams completed a one-yard TD toss to Rhymes early in the fourth quarter. After Adrian Greene picked off a Streveler pass near his own end zone to snuff out a promising Bombers drive, the Stamps marched down the field and Adams hit a wide-open Alford for a 42-yard touchdown. The Parades convert gave Calgary a 24-13 lead heading into the final quarter. The Stamps led 17-13 at halftime. Calgary had retaken the lead when Adams connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to Alford. Winnipeg grabbed a 13-10 lead when Collaros capped off a 70-yard drive with a four-yard TD toss to Demski. The Stamps upped the score to 10-6 with a 32-yard field goal by Parades early in the second. Castillo had connected on a 58-yard field goal to pull Winnipeg within 7-6 following Calgary's touchdown. The Stamps had scored on their first drive, marching 70 yards on seven plays, capped off with a one-yard touchdown run by Vaughn. A Parades convert gave the Stamps a 7-3 lead. The Bombers opened the scoring on their first possession. After a sack negated a promising drive, Castillo booted a 46-yard field goal. WELCOME BACK Fans welcomed Bombers legend Milt Stegall back with a standing ovation before the game. Stegall, who was on the sidelines, returned to the TSN panel this weekend for the first time since the sudden death of his son, Chase. UP NEXT The Bombers travel to Toronto to take on the Argos in a Grey Cup rematch on Saturday. The Stampeders return to Calgary to host the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday.
