Funeral of mum and children killed in Fermanagh shooting expected to take place in Clare

Fr Tom Fitzpatrick, parish priest in Barefield, Co. Clare, told Clare FM yesterday that although no details have been finalised, it's the family's wish that the funeral be held in Clare.
Ms Whyte, 45, a veterinarian, was killed along with her son James Rutledge, 14, and daughter Sara Rutledge, 13, in a gun attack at their home in Maguiresbridge, Co. Fermanagh.
Clare FM reported that Ms Whyte 'was a frequent visitor to friends and family in Barefield and was a keen Clare GAA supporter, even attending last year's All-Ireland hurling final with Sara and James'. Last night, hundreds of people gathered for a community vigil in Maguiresbridge to remember the three victims.
The vigil was organised by a community group and held at Maguiresbridge Primary School, which James and Sara previously attended. A book of condolence was also opened at the school.

'James was full of fun, always laughing, loved to get a laugh, loved to be outdoors. Sara was the same. Sara loved outdoors, bit of a tomboy, and the two of them got on very well, [had] lots of friends and were very popular in school.'
Ms Irvine described their mother Vanessa, who was a member of the parents' support group which organised fundraisers for the school, as 'full of life', and a 'roll up your sleeves, get the job done' type of person.
She said the vigil, facilitated by the school, offered a place for the community to grieve together.
'It's been lovely to hear people who knew Vanessa and knew Sara and knew James, talking about them and sharing memories. For the community, it's a place to mourn together and to support and comfort each other.'
She said the family were 'much loved' and would 'live on in our memories at Maguiresbridge Primary School for many, many years to come'.

However, Mr Healy-Rae said he has 'fierce respect' for the gardaí and they have a 'tough job'. 'It was just a very, very isolated incident.' He added the garda involved must have 'some spite for me'. In a statement, An Garda Síochána said it 'does not comment on unverified social media content'. 'Any person who wishes to report the conduct of a member of An Garda Síochána can do so by contacting Fiosrú,' the spokesperson added.

THE GAA has paid a poignant tribute to a mum and two children who were killed in Co Fermanagh this week. GAA pay tribute to Fermanagh shooting victims at All-Ireland football final
The GAA have paid tribute to the victims of a fatal shooting in Maguiresbridge with a minute's applause at Croke Park ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland SFC final. Vanessa Whyte, who was 45, and her children, Sara (13) and James (14) died after they were shot at their home in the Co Fermanagh village on Wednesday. A male who also suffered gunshot wounds remains in a serious condition in hospital. Vanessa Whyte and her children were active members of two local GAA teams. In separate statements on Wednesday night, both St Mary's Maguiresbridge Gaelic Football Club and Lisbellaw St Patrick's Hurling Club offered "heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those impacted by the tragic incident. Vanessa Whyte and her children, Sarah and James "We are working with the GAA at county, provincial and national level, to implement the Association's critical incident protocols. We will work closely with all appropriate services to ensure that those who require support at this difficult time can access it. "The deceased were all active and beloved members of our club. We will not be making any further comment at this difficult time." A murder investigation has been launched, and police are probing a triple murder and attempted suicide line of inquiry. Ahead of today's All-Ireland SFC final at Croke Park between Donegal and Kerry, a minute's applause was warmly received with a picture of the mother and children displayed on the big screen at Croke Park. Ulster champions Donegal, managed by Jim McGuinness, are hoping to win their third All-Ireland title today as they take on Jack O'Connor's Kerry, who are bidding to win the Sam Maguire Cup for the 39th time.
