Al-Jadaan commends OPEC Fund's flexible response to global market fluctuations

RIYADH — Minister of Finance Mohammed Al-Jadaan commended the flexibility of OPEC Fund for International Development in responding to global market fluctuations, saying that this has ensured the continued flow of available resources to countries and communities in need.
Addressing the 46th Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Fund in Vienna, Al-Jadaan praised the Fund's vision and alignment of its operations with global development priorities, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and food security, while maintaining its core focus areas.
The Ministerial Council, as the OPEC Fund's highest governing body, convenes annually to approve the fund's audited financial statements, annual activity reports, and any other items submitted by the management.
Al-Jadaan also addressed the OPEC Fund Development Forum. The events brought together leaders, ministers, and heads of multilateral development finance institutions to discuss ways to strengthen responses to global challenges. The opening session of the forum emphasized the vital role of inclusive, equitable, and sustainable transitions in global development, exploring how strategic finance, innovative policies, and global cooperation—particularly through South-South partnerships—can drive progress across key global frameworks.
In his speech at the inaugural session of the forum, Al-Jadaan emphasized that energy security is not a luxury but a fundamental pillar for achieving development and inclusive growth. Its absence, he said, disrupts vital sectors such as healthcare, education, economic productivity, environmental sustainability, water extraction, and food security.
He noted that the pursuit of more secure and diverse energy sources has become more urgent than ever amid escalating geopolitical tensions, market volatility, and increasing global energy demand. Al-Jadaan called for a strategic move toward energy diversification and increased investment in clean energy technologies, as well as emerging energy technologies, such as Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), and encouraged the adoption of innovative financing solutions to accelerate energy access and enhance long-term energy security.
He also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to working with all its partners to enhance energy security and eliminate energy poverty, while continuing efforts to combat climate change. 'We have set an ambitious target to generate 50% of our electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, under the Circular Carbon Economy framework,' he said.

The MoU reflects shared goals to enhance resource efficiency and lower carbon emissions through a comprehensive, balanced and sustainable approach. Areas of cooperation include policy research and recommendations, partnerships with international organizations, participation in climate and CCE-related events, exchange of knowledge and best practices, and the development of climate policy frameworks, supported by regional and global climate networking activities.

Saudi Arabia and China sign executive program to strengthen cultural collaboration
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Ministry of Culture and the China-Arab Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Research Center signed on Sunday an executive program aimed at further strengthening collaboration between Saudi Arabia and China in the cultural field. The executive program was signed by Deputy Minister for Research and Cultural Heritage Affairs Dr. Maha Abdullah Alsenan, and Vice President of Beijing International Studies University and Member of the Joint Committee of the China-Arab Research Center for Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Cheng Wei in a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture in Diriyah. The executive program, taking place in parallel with the 2025 Saudi-Chinese Cultural Year, reinforces joint efforts in cultural areas. Under the program, the two sides will jointly carry out research projects to enhance the quality of cultural research submitted and collaborate to identify and compile cultural content related to each country held in national archives. In addition, the Ministry of Culture will collaborate with the Chinese side to hold joint conferences and support mutual visits and exchanges between cultural researchers from both countries to discuss common cultural issues. The program also includes support for research exchange operations, facilitating visits by Saudi researchers to Chinese universities and research centers, as well as by Chinese researchers to Saudi universities and research centers. It provides both sides with specialists in cultural fields, offers support in the research fellowship program, and provides consultative support. This executive program comes within the context of the Ministry of Culture's commitment to promoting international cultural exchange as one of the objectives of the National Culture Strategy under the Saudi Vision 2030. This is also an extension of the activities of the 2025 Saudi-Chinese Cultural Year, which aims to consolidate the close relations between Saudi Arabia and China in various development fields, particularly in the cultural field, which has witnessed significant growth and development in recent years.

Over 500 events set to draw 2.5 million visitors as Al-Baha Summer Festival kicks off
Saudi Gazette report AL-BAHA — Emir of Al-Baha Prince Hussam bin Saud inaugurated on Sunday the Al-Baha Summer Festival 2025. The festival, with the theme of "Al and Tourism" will witness more than 500 events that set to draw 2.5 million visitors. Speaking on the occasion, Prince Hussam emphasized that all agencies are working as one team to provide an exceptional summer experience for the people of Al-Baha and its visitors. He stressed the need to activate field committees to monitor events and tourist sites, including parks and gardens, and develop a comprehensive traffic plan to help avoid congestion. The Emir also emphasized adherence to public decency regulations in public places. He called on security and service agencies to continue their efforts to accommodate visitors and vacationers and treat them well, reflecting a positive image of the region and its people. For his part, Mayor of Al-Baha Region and Chairman of the Executive Committee for Al-Baha Summer 2025 Dr. Ali Al-Sawat shed light on the major features of the events taking place in Al-Baha City and the five governorates of the Sarawat Sector. These events feature integrated recreational, cultural, sports, and community activities that reflect the region's identity and align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 for domestic tourism development. He highlighted their diversity and inclusiveness, encompassing all age groups and interests, enhancing the region's tourism experience. The festival witnessed broad community participation, with 431 outlets allocated to productive families and 25 sales incubators. A volunteer program was also launched with the participation of more than 6,500 male and female volunteers who supported the season's activities in the areas of organization, guidance, and services. The festival represents an integrated national model in planning, community engagement, and tourism experience, enhancing the region's presence as a major summer destination on the Kingdom's domestic tourism map.
