Man found guilty of gunning down rising Atlanta actor in road rage shooting

Last Friday, a Clayton County jury convicted Victor Laray Isom Jr. of felony murder, possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
This conviction comes after the shooting and killing of Jovan Jerome Cook on Aug. 24, 2023.
According to the Clayton County District Attorney's Office, Isom sped out of a gas station, almost hitting Cook's Mercedes.
Authorities said Cook honked his horn at Isom and the two men briefly exchanged words.
That's when Isom fired two shots, with one bullet hitting Cook in the head, police said.
Cook later died from his injuries five days later.

On May 22, after a 75-minute deliberation, Isom was found guilty.
A judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus five years to serve in confinement.
'We hope this conviction offers some measure of solace to the family of Mr. Cook. This conviction also reaffirms our unwavering commitment to pursuing justice and holding individuals accountable for their actions,' DA Tasha Mosley said.

Channel 2 Action News spoke with Cook's wife, Nicole, who said her husband was a righteous, devoted and loving man.
'My husband couldn't even defend himself. He didn't even see it coming his way,' said Nicole Cook.
Loved ones said the victim was a rising model and actor.
'Jovan was a rising and gifted model/actor. Unfortunately, his life has now been cut short due to the senseless acts of violence as it relates to road rage,' a family spokesperson said.

Games, wood carving and an Elvis impersonator: Arbor Days kicks off at Halfway River First Nation
WONOWON, B.C. — A weekend of fun and festivities await attendees to Halfway River First Nation (HRFN) as its annual Arbor Days began on Friday. The day is named after the vision of late HRFN Elder Maizie Metecheah, who wanted an arbour on HRFN grounds to bring communities and people together. However, the day began with dreary weather conditions as a steady drizzle hammered the area. Despite running behind schedule, HRFN Chief Darlene Hunter still put a positive spin on the early goings. '[This day is] to celebrate our children, our people, all of our people,' said Hunter. 'It's an honour to have all these people here. 'The rain washes. [It] washes the Mother Earth and washes away things. Water brings life, and this is what [Arbor Days] is about, is bringing life back to a tradition.' After a drum performance by the Meander River drummers opened the event, Hunter acknowledged all the children new to the Nation. Because this was the first time doing so at Arbor Days, she welcomed children as old as six years. 'It's important to us because that is what we are working for,' said Hunter. 'We're working for the seven generations, these young, little ones that are going to carry on and someday look after me when I'm an Elder.' After the acknowledgement, chainsaw carver and artist Ryan Cook came to deliver several carved animals to be distributed throughout the arbour, including a bear, beaver, wolf, moose, owl and eagle. Cook, who starred on the Discovery television series A Cut Above, also hand-carved an Elders' bench for the arbour, which will be displayed on the platform for Elders under the structure. 'These animals are ones that represent the spirit of the Nation,' said Cook, who will also be showing off his wood carving skills all weekend for festival goers. This afternoon will feature children's festivities, including youth hand games, bouncy castles and a mechanical bull. Dinner and a talent show will take place on Friday evening, and an Elvis Presley impersonator will round out the festivities. Joanne West, an Arbor Days organizer, thinks Metecheah would be proud of how the event brings people together. 'She would be very grateful,' said West. 'Grateful and happy. This would have made her happy.' Arbor Days will also feature axe throwing, leg and horse wrestling, horseshoe bingo and more. It runs through to Sunday, July 20th. Error! Albanian who cannot be deported taunts Home Office with personalised number plate
Credit: An Albanian convicted burglar who cannot be deported taunted the Home Office with a personalised number plate on his £80,000 Mercedes. Dorian Puka, 28, who has been jailed and deported twice from the UK for burglaries, filmed himself peeling the cover off his new registration plate: DO24 AMG, reflecting his name and high-end marque of the Mercedes. He then posted a video of himself on Tik Tok driving through London onto the M25 towards the intersection with the M40 to Oxford. It is his latest defiant mockery of Home Office officials who are powerless to deport him because he has claimed asylum. He cannot be removed until his case is fully considered – a process that could take months or years, given the backlog of immigration tribunal appeals. He was originally jailed for nine months in 2016 and then deported the following year for attempting to break into a property when the owner spotted him on a webcam while on holiday in France. Yet, within a year, he managed to evade border controls and return to the UK where he carried out a string of burglaries in London. Puka was eventually caught wearing an expensive watch he had stolen when he was spotted by plain clothes officers patrolling Surbiton in south west London. He was jailed for three-and-a-half years and then deported in March 2020. Awaiting immigration tribunal During his time in prison in the UK, he earned notoriety for using an illegal mobile phone smuggled into the jail to post Instagram pictures of himself standing alongside the leader of an organised crime group who was serving a 12-year sentence for conspiracy to supply cocaine and money laundering. After returning to his native Albania for several months, he travelled through Germany, Belgium and Netherlands before beating border checks to enter Britain again in December 2020, according to his Instagram account. It is understood he has lodged an asylum application and has been on immigration bail and subject to an electronic tag since last year, awaiting an immigration tribunal to decide on his claim. In December, he posted happy new year messages from a London nightclub alongside a picture of himself celebrating while smoking a shisha pipe next to a belly dancer. Three months earlier, he posted a series of videos of himself driving a £300,000 Ferrari in London on his TikTok and Instagram accounts, as well as images of himself with dozens of Rolex watches and other expensive cars. 'A proper wrong 'un' Puka also taunted Nigel Farage by posting a picture of himself eating and drinking with a Photoshopped image of the Reform party leader giving a thumbs-up. Mr Farage had described him as a 'proper wrong 'un' who was 'walking all over' the UK authorities. The Albanian's sources of funding remain unknown, but reports suggest he has been staying in a £250,000 two-bed terraced flat in Hounslow, west London. A Home Office spokesman said: 'Foreign nationals who commit crimes should be in no doubt that the law will be enforced. Mr Puka has been deported by the UK before. It is UK law that we cannot deport individuals where there are claims or representations still awaiting decision. 'We have already begun delivering a major surge in immigration enforcement and returns activity to remove people with no right to be in the UK, with 30,000 returned since the new government came into power.' Beyoncé's Unreleased Music Files, Tour Materials Stolen Before Atlanta ‘Cowboy Carter' Show
Beyoncé's unreleased music may have fallen into the wrong hands as a vehicle was robbed before the Atlanta stop of her Cowboy Carter Tour. The break-in was reported by Bey's choreographer and one of her dancers, who said thieves broke into their SUV and stole several items. The perpetrators took two suitcases, jump drives containing unreleased music, footage plans for the Houston superstar's show, past and future set lists, and more, per WSB-TV. According to local police, the incident happened around 8 p.m. on July 8, 2025, inside a parking deck at 44 Krog Street NE. This places the event just 48 hours prior to the mother of three kicking off her ATL shows. A reporter for the outlet learned Monday evening (July 14) that an arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect. Christopher Grant and Diandre Blue reported the crime to the authorities. They said someone broke in through the back lift gate and robbed their rental black Jeep Wagoneer while it was stationed in a parking deck around 8:09 p.m. Detectives confirmed to WSB-TV that the break-in was captured on surveillance cameras, and the scene was dusted for fingerprints. No suspects have been identified. 'Mr. Grant advised he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyoncé,' an officer wrote in the incident report.'He advised he was her choreographer and Mr. Diandre Blue was a dancer for her and that her hard drives for her upcoming show in Atlanta were stolen also. The hard drives contained water marked music, some un-released music, footage plans for the show and past and future set lists,' the officer added in the police report. Other members of Bey's team reported clothes, designer sunglasses, laptops, and a pair of AirPods Max headphones were stolen from the vehicle as well. Additionally, Bey's Atlanta show made headlines due to a rare moment with husband JAY-Z on stage. Hov made his second Cowboy Carter Tour appearance in Atlanta on Sunday (July 13), where they performed 'Crazy In Love' together and the NYC rapper treated fans to a rendition of 'Public Service Announcement.'
