Swedish rapper's concert cancelled after murder plot reports

The Swedish artist, whose full name is Yasin Mahamoud, has racked up millions of plays on Spotify and has had several chart-toppers in Sweden.
Described by Swedish news agency TT as one of "Sweden's most controversial, but also most influential, rappers", he was sentenced to 10 months in prison in 2021 for his role in the kidnapping of rival artist Einar -- who was shot and killed later that year.
Yasin's performance at the music festival Brannbollsyran in the city of Umea on Friday would have been the rapper's first concert in Sweden in nine years.
However, newspaper Aftonbladet reported ahead of the concert that police had arrested two young men suspected of being involved in a plot to murder the 27-year-old artist.
Organisers said that "based on a comprehensive assessment together with the police", they had decided to cancel the concert.
"The reason for this is the concern among visitors and staff based on recent media reports, which has made the performance impossible," Brannbollsyran said on Instagram.

Organisers added that the safety of both visitors and staff was their priority.
They said the festival would "otherwise continue as planned".
Yasin was named Artist of the Year and hip hop/R&B Artist of the Year at the P3 Guldgalan awards, organised by Swedish public radio, in 2021.
In April, newspaper Dagens ETC reported that another Yasin concert in Stockholm planned for September last year had also been cancelled after police warned the organiser of their safety concerns.

A minister in Sweden's government has a close relative who is active in right-wing extremist and neo-Nazi groups, according to Swedish media. Advertisement According to anti-racist magazine Expo, which broke the story, a Swedish government minister has a family member who is active in a violent neo-Nazi network and has tried to recruit people to the nationalist and antisemitic organisation Det fria Sverige (The Free Sweden) via social media. It's also claimed the family member has collaborated closely with an activist from Nordiska motståndsrörelsen (Nordic Resistance Movement). The unnamed person has reportedly also taken part in activities alongside Aktivklubb Sverige, another neo-Nazi organisation. According to Expo, Swedish security police (Säpo) were unaware of the connection between the minister and their family member. "Regarding what information we do or don't have when it comes to the work we do protecting the central government leadership, that's something we can't go into in detail," Säpo press spokesperson Johan Wikström told the TT newswire. Sweden's right-wing government is made up of ministers from three different parties: the Moderates, Liberals and Christian Democrats. There are no ministers from the far-right Sweden Democrats, who support the government. Kim Hakkarainen, a Swedish security expert with a background within the country's Military Intelligence and Security Service (MUST), told Expo that the situation is "serious". "That's a good word to sum it up," he said, adding that the minister's connection to the person in question could be a security risk. "It's a weakness which could be used by an antagonist, for example another state or antagonistic actor who wants to harm Sweden, in order to influence or use the minister's family member as an enabler," he said. Expo has contacted the minister, but has not received a response. The magazine managed to link the family member to six social media accounts on four different platforms. Five of the accounts were anonymous. These accounts included images of the person putting up racist stickers in a school and in their local neighbourhood. The family member's accounts were made private after the newspaper contacted the minister's press secretary.

The week had barely begun when an elk turned up in one of the most unlikely places imaginable: central Stockholm. Reports later came in of it walking around central streets, including the Rörstrandsgatan strip packed with cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating, which were closed at the time. Animal control agents finally put the animal down around 7am. "When elk are in densely populated areas there can be a danger for traffic and such, so a decision was made to put the animal down," Stockholm police spokeswoman Susanna Rinaldo told AFP. Sweden set to ban AR-15 semi-automatic rifles for hunting
The Swedish government and the Sweden Democrats have reportedly agreed to ban AR-15 semi-automatic rifles for hunting, with current licensed owners told to either reapply for a sport shooting license or trade in their weapons. Advertisement According to the TT newswire, the ban on the weapons means that police will no longer be allowed to issue hunting licenses for AR-15s from August 1st. Calls to ban the guns increased after the Örebro school shooting earlier this year, despite the fact that the shooter used different guns in that attack. Hunters who already have a license for an AR-15 will have two years to meet the requirements for a sport shooting license if they wish to keep their gun, otherwise they will have to sell it or trade it in to the government for 100 percent of the market value. AR-15s which are not traded in voluntarily will be confiscated. The rifles were approved by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency for hunting usage back in 2023, with thousands of hunters now holding licenses. Other semi-automatic hunting rifles, for example the Browning BAR used by the Örebro shooter, will still be permitted. The government is also expected to present plans to relax other aspects of Swedish gun laws, for example allowing hunters to hold licenses for eight weapons (plus two in exceptional circumstances) rather than the current four (plus two). This, hunting magazine Svensk Jakt reports, is due to the fact that increased game populations and changes to the types of hunting permitted ‒ for example hunts of wild boar after dusk ‒ require more specialised weapons.
