Glasgow Aldi to receive new solar panels in UK rollout
The supermarket chain, now the fourth largest in the UK, will install advanced 144 kWp solar systems at 41 stores by the end of this year, with an additional 49 stores to follow in 2026.

Each site is expected to generate around 100,000 kWh of electricity per year—enough to power an average home for 37 years, according to Ofgem data.
All future new store developments will also include solar technology as standard.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: "By expanding the use of solar panels across our UK stores, we're making practical, long-term changes to how we power our operations, which will help us generate more of our energy on site from renewable sources.
"By investing in our estate now, we're strengthening the resilience of our operations and helping ensure we can keep delivering great value for customers across Britain in a more sustainable way."

The solar panel programme is part of Aldi's broader commitment to increasing renewable energy use across its operations.
In addition to these installations, Aldi has also converted more than 30% of its owned HGV fleet to run on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), a more sustainable fuel.
The retailer has also introduced chiller doors at its stores to cut energy consumption by around 20% per site.

The ETOOLAB Pressure Washer has a respectable 4.4 out of 5 star rating from over 100 reviews on Amazon. One person said: "Strong and powerful. Last week was very hot and it was the perfect time to get this electric power washer. It was very easy to set up and very light for a washer with such power. "It is strong and works very well for garden, driveway and for washing my car. Specially with four different nozzles that can be attached to the water gun for different cleaning makes the job so easy. The long hose make it easy to reach around easily without moving the washer." Another wrote: " Great little pressure washer, nice power behind it my patio slabs have never looked so good. I have literally been using this all weekend on various things. Has a nice long lead on it which is very handy. There's four various nozzles I'm trying to get used to best one for each job. "This certainly made my life so much easier especially on the patio tiles it works amazing. The pressure washing is nice and light but extremely powerful. It is unclear what the wattage of the budget product is, but The Sun has contacted Aldi to find out. More Aldi bargains Dozens of great Specialbuys landed in stores yesterday, including a cute and comfortable plush Bluey, Bingo & Muffin armchair, which the store said will be "perfect for your child to play, read or relax in". It added it will "also make a great addition to any child's playroom or bedroom and is made of high-quality plush with a soft filling". Why do Aldi and Lidl have such fast checkouts IF you've ever shopped in Aldi or Lidl then you'll probably have experienced its ultra-fast checkout staff. Aldi's speedy reputation is no mistake, in fact, the supermarket claims that its tills are 40 per cent quicker than rivals. It's all part of Aldi's plan to be as efficient as possible - and this, the budget shop claims, helps keep costs low for shoppers. Efficient barcodes on packaging means staff are able to scan items as quickly as possible, with the majority of products having multiple barcodes to speed up the process. Aldi said: "There's hours of fun to be had with these giant sticker activity pads. Includes stickers and plenty to colour in. "Let their imaginations soar with their favourite characters." The store adds these books "promote creativity and problem solving" while customers can choose from characters such as Bluey, Paw Patrol, Dino, and Unicorn. Today's bargains also include items for parents such as a 10-can pack of Aspall cider for just £10.49, equivalent to £3.18 a litre. In addition to these, there are Loaded Tasty Takeouts Burger crisps from Seabrook for only £1.25 a pack of 130g.

Fears are growing in the international community over mass starvation in the region. The Labour leader is also likely to discuss the future of tariffs on British steel. Sir Keir and Mr Trump have built a rapport on the world stage, despite their differing political backgrounds. The Republican leader has previously praised the PM for doing a "very good job" so far in government. First Minister John Swinney will also meet the president during his five-day visit to the country. He said he will urge Mr Trump to place pressure on Israel to agree to a lasting ceasefire and allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza. Mr Swinney told BBC Breakfast: "I think what's important is that we focus on the solutions that are required now, and the absolutely immediate situation is a necessity for a ceasefire and for humanitarian aid to need to flow into Gaza so that the people of Gaza can be saved from the starvation that they face. "And that is the blunt human reality of the situation that we face, and there must be an intensification of pressure on Israel. "And I think President Trump is ideally positioned. In fact, he's perhaps uniquely positioned to apply that pressure to Israel to ensure that there is safe passage for humanitarian aid to support the people of Gaza, who face an absolutely unbearable set of circumstances as a consequence of the conflict. TRUMP V WINDMILLS "And a key part of that must be the application of a durable ceasefire, the flow of humanitarian aid and the progress towards a two state solution in the Middle East." Mr Swinney also said he would use his meeting with President Trump to press him to exempt Scotch whisky from US trade tariffs. The SNP leader said the "uniqueness" of malt made in Scotland justified the exemption from the 10 per cent tariff applied on UK exports into the US. Sir Keir and Mr Trump are also expected to discuss the war in Ukraine, which Number 10 said would include "applying pressure" on Vladimir Putin to end the invasion, before travelling on together for a private engagement in Aberdeen. It comes after Mr Trump announced he had agreed "the biggest deal ever made" between the US and the European Union after meeting Ursula von der Leyen for high-stakes talks at Turnberry yesterday. Speaking ahead of his meeting with Sir Keir, Mr Trump said: "We're meeting about a lot of things. We have our trade deal and it's been a great deal. "It's good for us. It's good for them and good for us. "I think the UK is very happy. They've been trying for 12 years to get it and they got it. "It's a great trade deal for both, works out very well. We'll be discussing that. "I think we're going to be discussing a lot about Israel. They're very much involved in terms of wanting something to happen. "He's doing a very good job, by the way." Mr Trump's private trip to Scotland comes ahead of a planned state visit to the UK in September.
