Shedeur Sanders is going to continue to be a popular news topic for the foreseeable future, even after falling to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He's a talented quarterback who likely should've been drafted higher, but dramatically fell for myriad reasons.

It may never be clear why exactly NFL teams didn't want Sanders, but there's been a lot of speculation that he has a poor attitude, and his status as a big star could lead to some distractions.
Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby has known Sanders since he was a kid, and he defended the young quarterback while stating that the concerns about him are misplaced.

'͏I think he's handled it the ͏right way,' Crosby said of Sanders on the "Glory Daze with Johnny Manziel" podcast. 'People have their certain opinions, you're Dei͏on͏ Sander͏s͏' son, he's got ͏a͏ big ͏personality, bigger than life, he's got his jewelry, he's ͏got this, and ͏you know ͏people just automatically put him ͏in a ͏box that he's a͏ distraction, not ͏a good ͏kid͏,͏ things like ͏that ͏and I͏ ͏think that's unfair.'

Sanders has shown some immaturity with how he's spoken about opposing players or players who transferred from Colorado while he was there, but he's never gotten into serious legal trouble, and most of his teammates have spoken highly of him.
He hasn't created any major negative headlines since joining the Cleveland Browns, but time will tell if he truly deserved to fall to the fifth round of the draft.

Dan Quinn continues to praise these two young Commanders

One week into training camp, and you could make the case that the Washington Commanders' defense has been the more impressive side of the ball. That's noteworthy because Washington's offense was among the NFL's best last season. However, it's early in camp, and the defense almost always has the early advantage. While Washington's defense deserves praise for how its started training camp, several offensive players have stood out at various times over the first week. Two of those players were Day 2 draft picks from the 2024 NFL draft: tight end Ben Sinnott and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey. We've profiled each player recently and specifically predicted a breakout campaign for McCaffrey. So, it's no surprise that when head coach Dan Quinn speaks to the media, he's asked about the progress of some of his young players. This week, Quinn discussed Sinnott and McCaffrey. "Two players come to mind going into second year on the offense regarding the skill spots, Luke and Ben, and in different ways they both made their impact, and you see them just the confidence, so much more knowledgeable in the system," Quinn said. "There was a play Ben had on a seam route yesterday that took a certain check against the blitz that he and [QB] Jayden [Daniels] had to go execute. A year ago, that would've been harder for him to have that nuance. And you saw that yesterday with Ben." Next, Quinn focused exclusively on McCaffrey: "With Luke, it's been a lot of the same where he can go outside and inside, but the smallest skill work adjustments have been made," he said. "He was always somebody that could pick up on the offense quickly. He's got a background as quarterback, but you kind of see maybe before there was still sometimes, I think like a quarterback now you see him thinking like the receiver. And I think, although that sounds like counterintuitive, more knowledge wouldn't that be better? The finest of the details at the receiver position, that that's what I see now.' This is not the first time Quinn has praised Sinnott or McCaffrey. Far too often, some in the media and fans don't believe a player is having a strong training camp if his name isn't mentioned every day on social media. Sinnott has received some positive attention as of late, but we haven't yet heard a lot of chatter on McCaffrey. That shouldn't be a bad thing. Just remember: if a player isn't all over the practice highlight reel on X, it doesn't mean he's struggling. Derrick Harmon leads Steelers rookies in Madden 26 player ratings

EA Sports has been busy this week dripping out the player ratings for Madden 26. First up, we had the seven members of the 99 Club, of which Pittsburgh Steelers edge defender T.J. Watt failed to make the cut. Next up are the rookies for all 32 NFL teams. For the Steelers, eight rookies found their way to the list, including undrafted free agent kicker Ben Sauls. The highest-rated Steelers are first-round pick Derrick Harmon, with running back Kaleb Johnson just behind him. It was nice seeing edge defender Jack Sawyer at 72 as he was one of the biggest value picks in the 2025 NFL draft. On the other end, fans of quarterback Will Howard won't be happy with his 64 overall but it can only go up from here. Defensive tackle - Derrick Harmon - 77 overall Running back - Kaleb Johnson - 75 overall Outside linebacker - Jack Sawyer - 72 overall Kicker - Ben Sauls - 70 overall Cornerback - Donte Kent - 68 overall Defensive tackle - Yahya Black - 67 overall Linebacker - Carson Bruener - 64 overall Quarterback - Will Howard - 64 overall This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Derrick Harmon leads Steelers rookies in Madden 26 player ratings

Chargers vs. Lions: 4 biggest storylines ahead of Hall of Fame Game

It's the Chargers' honor to kick off football season with the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday. We'll get a look at some key roster battles that have been brewing in the late stages of the summer. With that, let's look at a few storylines to watch for on Thursday evening. First glimpse at rookies The best thing about preseason is always getting the first look at the rookies who take the professional field for the first time. On Thursday, we'll get to see the likes of Omarion Hampton, Keandre Lambert-Smith, and Tre Harris take their talents to the NFL stage. In particular, Hampton has the potential to be ultra productive early on in his career. Don't expect him to play much, but it'll be a thrilling sight to see him in a Chargers uniform. Interior defensive line rotation The defensive line has been a question mark for the Chargers entering the 2025 season. Head coach Jim Harbaugh announced that Teair Tart is among the group of veterans who will not play on Thursday. That tells you his spot is locked in, but the rest of the defensive line rotation remains up in the air. Thursday will give us a look at who is in line to play the most amongst Naquan Jones, Otito Ogbonnia, and Jamaree Caldwell. Lineup at center Similar to the defensive line, the center position is another area of uncertainty heading into the season. While veteran Bradley Bozeman may very well start there again, the Chargers have tried some different options this summer. Zion Johnson, a left guard in his first few NFL seasons, has gotten some looks at center. He will see some snaps there on Thursday, the first look at him in game action at the position. Andre James may get some looks too, as he has plenty of starting experience at the center position. Pecking order at wide receiver Lambert-Smith and Harris have already been mentioned, and they will have a major impact on this wide receiver room this year. Veteran Jalen Reagor had a nice start to camp, but he's been absent from practice due to injury over the last week. Quentin Johnston has had some impressive moments this summer, but he also has had some timely drops. We'll see if anyone can make a name for themselves and sneak onto the 53-man roster after the recent retirement of Mike Williams.
