Pedro Pascal reacts to 'too old' criticism over Reed Richards casting ahead of Marvel's Fantastic Four release; here's what he said

Time of India2 days ago

Pedro Pascal has responded to criticism surrounding his casting as Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in Marvel's upcoming film Fantastic Four: First Steps. The actor, known for The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, acknowledged fan concerns during an interview with Vanity Fair, specifically those pointing to his age and appearance.
'I'm more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I've ever done,' Pascal said. ''He's too old. He's not right. He needs to shave.''
Acknowledging the fan reactions
While reactions have been mixed, Pascal admitted the feedback has been louder than he expected. Still, he remains optimistic about the movie. 'I'm getting an inkling of excitement because it seems to reflect what our common goal was... all of our hearts on a platter within this genre,' he said, adding that one can never predict how people will respond emotionally.
Pascal also revealed that joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a challenge, but he credited Robert Downey Jr. for helping him ease into it. 'Robert is just so immediately generous and inviting,' he shared, noting that the support allowed him to stay grounded during the transition.
Building his version of Reed Richards
Pascal described his approach to Reed Richards as rooted in intellect, not just superpowers. In an earlier interview with ComicBook, he said he was inspired by the intelligence of an octopus—not literally, but as a subconscious guide to shape the character.
Despite the skepticism from some fans, Pascal is set to lead Marvel's reboot of the superhero team alongside Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The film, directed by Matt Shakman and produced by Kevin Feige, also features Ralph Ineson as Galactus and Julia Garner as Silver Surfer.
Looking ahead in the Marvel Universe
Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled to release on July 25, marking the group's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film will be followed by Avengers: Doomsday, where Pascal and the rest of the cast are set to return.
Pascal's calm and clear response shows that while he's heard the criticism, he is focused on delivering a performance that respects the character and the franchise. Whether audiences embrace his take on Reed Richards will become clear once the film hits theaters.

5 Amazing games that are leaving the PS+ Catalogue very soon

Image via Sony The situation with the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue is that it will always change, and new games will appear on it, and some games could be secretly taken away. As much as new additions are ever interesting, it is difficult to lose some great games. This month, there are a number of notable games due to be removed from the PS+ club, and in case you have not yet played these games, do it before it is too late. Whether it be emotional journeys through life or crazed weapons-blazing missions in open worlds, these five games are a special experience, and as they say, time is fleeting, so this list will not last long. Must-play PS+ Games leaving the catalogue soon PlayStation Plus: Catalog Games Leaving Explained Here are five incredible games leaving PS+ soon that are worth your time. 1. Inscryption More than a card game, Inscryption is a wild blend of strategy, escape from puzzles, and psychological horror. It switches the plot all the time, dragging you even further into its distorted world. If you are in search of something new and really head-scratching, then you better not miss it, or it will be gone. 2. Ghostwire: Tokyo Set up in a beautifully haunted version of Tokyo, this action-adventure blends supernatural combat with atmospheric exploration. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Spectacular Cirque Charity GCE Read More Undo You will cast spells, fight ghosts, and solve mysteries based on Japanese folktales. It looks cool and spooky, and none of the other content on the platform can be compared to it. 3. Tchia Tchia is an emotional open-world adventure with a touch of soul-jumping, island exploring, and music influenced by the culture and landscapes of New Caledonia. It looks colorful, peaceful, and adorable, a pure feel-good game that will stand out among them all. 4. Far Cry 5 When it comes to chaotic shootouts, Ubisoft's popular open world, and explosives, all shot in a better-than-usual way to deal with them, then Far Cry 5 is everything you could ask for. The game unfolds in a cult-run American countryside and is full of action and unforgettable characters. It is one of the old-fashioned games in the series, but it still manages to be good nowadays. 5. Marvel's Avengers Although its multiplayer features are no longer supported, Marvel Avengers combines a good single-player campaign and dramatic moments of being a hero. With Iron Man flying around and Thor going thunderous, there is a good deal of action here to satisfy the Marvel audience; just make sure to get it before it disappears. The five games are as varied in both genre and gameplay experience as they are in name, and their loss in the PS+ Game Catalogue is significant in that it signifies the end of a good era. Make sure to download and play them as long as you can, because once they disappear, these incredible games may never pop up ever again. Pedro Pascal doubles down on LGBTQ+ Allyship after J.K. Rowling showdown: 'Bullies make me sick'

'Protect the dolls.' At the Thunderbolts (2025) screening in London, Pedro Pascal's T-shirt said that. And he completely swears by those words. Nobody is surprised that Pedro is an enthusiastic LGBTQ+ ally. Naturally, there is a personal connection because in 2021, his sister Lux Pascal came out as transgender. However, the broader narrative boldly amplifies the passion. Pedro is strongly committed to preserving the sense of community. And he's determined to change things. "The one thing that I would say I agonized over a little bit was just, 'Am I helping?'" he recently stated in an interview with Vanity Fair. "Am I f***ing helping?" he asked, adding, "It's a situation that deserves the utmost elegance so that something can actually happen, and people will actually be protected. I want to protect the people I love. But it goes beyond that. Bullies make me f***ing sick." Naturally, this is not the first time that the most popular parasocial boyfriend has strengthened his position. He and J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, got into a heated public argument earlier this year over her celebration of the UK Supreme Court's April 2025 decision. To put it in perspective, the Equality Act states that the term "woman" should refer to biological females, thereby excluding trans women from legal recognition in some situations. On the day of the decision, she wrote, beneath a photo of herself holding a drink in one hand and a cigar in the other, "I love it when a plan comes together." This was consistent with her long history of publicly and aggressively opposing transgender people. Pedro felt the same way that JK Rowling did. "Awful disgusting s***...heinous LOSER behavior," the actor wrote in response to a reel by activist Tariq Ra'ouf advocating for a boycott of the Rowling and Harry Potter franchises. In terms of his career, Pedro recently completed the release of Materialists, in which he co-stars with Chris Evans and Dakota Johnson.
