Menendez brother hospitalized in ‘serious condition' ahead of parole hearing
He is currently receiving treatment for kidney stones, according to TMZ.
The development comes just weeks before Erik, 54, and his brother Lyle Menendez were scheduled for their first parole hearings, set for Aug. 21 and 22.
The hearings follow a May court ruling that resentenced the brothers to 50 years to life in prison, making them eligible for parole after 35 years behind bars.
'It's a serious condition,' attorney Mark Geragos told TMZ.
He urged Gov. Gavin Newsom to grant Erik immediate release.
'He could be medically furloughed in advance of the hearing so that he can work with the parole attorney and get up to speed and be ready and do it and give it his best shot,' Geragos said. 'I think that it's the only fair and equitable thing to do.'
Initially sentenced to life without parole for the shotgun killings of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, the brothers later claimed they acted in self-defense after enduring years of physical and sexual abuse.
The case regained national attention after the release of Netflix's 2024 docudrama 'Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.'
Newsom, who will have the final say if parole is recommended, discussed the case on his podcast with showrunner Ryan Murphy. He said he had deliberately avoided watching the dramatization to maintain objectivity.
Still, he acknowledged the complexity of the decision, noting that other convicted murderers have been granted parole under similar or more severe circumstances.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's $100 million Netflix deal won't be renewed: Report
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's $100 million deal with Netflix will not be renewed when it expires later this year, according to several reports. The couple signed the contract in 2020, but it will not be extended beyond 2025, a Hollywood insider tells Entertainment Weekly's sister publication PEOPLE. The move reflects "a shift in Netflix's broader business strategy," according to the outlet. An anonymous source also told The Sun that "there's no animosity from either side," and that "things have just run their course."EW has reached out to representatives for Netflix and the couple for comment. Markle and Prince Harry released a a handful of non-fiction projects on the streaming giant. The impending end of the deal will reportedly not impact the rollout of season 2 of Markle's lifestyle docuseries With Love, Meghan, which premiered in March and ran for eight episodes, featuring celebrity guests like Mindy Kaling and Abigail Spencer joining the Duchess of Sussex at her home and in her kitchen. In addition to With Love, Meghan, Netflix also rolled out the Liz Garbus-directed Harry & Meghan docuseries in 2022, which included six episodes revolving around the duo's life in the United States after stepping back from their duties as senior members of the British royal family. The couple formed their Archewell Productions company after announcing their decision to leave the royal family in January 2020, with the pair signing their deal with Netflix that September. Other Archewell projects at Netflix included Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus, and Polo. "Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope," the couple said at the time in a statement to the New York Times. "As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us." They added that Netflix's 'unprecedented reach" to subscribers will assist in their mission to "share impactful content that unlocks action." Their foray into entertainment wasn't entirely well received, however, with The View cohost Ana Navarro admitting on the air during a March broadcast that "some people like her, some people hate her, some people don't care," looking toward the camera while motioning toward herself. Former View cohost and conservative political commentator Meghan McCain also slammed Markle over With Love, Meghan, calling the series out of touch with audiences that Markle was attempting to reach with the show. 'I cannot stand her. I love people that I can relate to, like every other 40-year-old mom. I don't want to eat her jam,' McCain said on her digital talk series. 'I don't know what she's doing. This is like her ninth rebrand. I actually had to review her show and her podcast, and it was horrible. It was so boring." Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Liam Payne sings with fans on 'Building the Band' in final appearance before his death
Liam Payne 's final major onscreen appearance in Netflix's "Building the Band" has aired. Payne served as a guest judge on the reality singing competition prior to his death in October last year. The former One Direction member tragically died at the age of 31 on Oct. 16, 2024, after falling from the third floor of his hotel in Argentina. His body was found in the hotel's inner courtyard, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. While filming the reality competition show, Payne joined the audience between performances, singing and dancing along to the One Direction song "What Makes You Beautiful," according a video posted by Netflix on Tuesday to tease his appearance in the episodes. The clip captures that moment, showing the crowd singing along as the song plays during what appears to be production breaks. Payne is then seen standing up from his seat at the judge's panel, walking to the crowd, and singing offstage before high-fiving everyone and returning to the stage. Netflix also included a tribute at the beginning of the clip, which read, "In loving memory of Liam Payne." Hosted by AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys, the show follows six bands as they work to perfect their sound and performances, with one band ultimately winning a $500,000 prize. The first set of episodes premiered in early July, and the final three episodes, including the finale, are now available to stream. Payne makes his first appearance in episode 7 of the show. Nicole Scherzinger mentors the bands and Kelly Rowland serves as a guest judge alongside Payne in the episode. The series also opens with a dedication to Payne and his family, with McLean paying tribute to the late singer in the first episode. "When we came together to film 'Building the Band,' we never imagined we'd soon be saying goodbye to our friend Liam Payne," McLean says. "Liam is a guest judge in later episodes, and through his presence, we see his deep love for music and his unwavering commitment to helping others find their voice. It's through that spirit that we dedicate this series to Liam and his family." Season 1 of "Building the Band" is now available to stream on Netflix.
