Punjab Police arrests two members of inter-state cyber fraud gang
He said Varun Kumar was arrested from Panchkula in Haryana and Sahil Sethi from Abohar in Punjab.
According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the gang used to lure people through Telegram and WhatsApp groups by offering high profits in 'stock market investments'.
The fraudsters used to convince the victims to install a fake K application, which projected huge returns on their invested amount. With the application showing fake profits, the victims continued to 'invest' money by transferring them to different bank accounts as directed by the fraudsters.
DGP Yadav said the gang's kingpins used to give commission to the arrested accused based on the amounts being transferred into the bank accounts.
"Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were involved in 34 other cyber fraud complaints filed across 14 states, with the total scam amount exceeding ₹8 crore," Yadav said, adding that a probe is on to uncover the virtual mobile numbers and the broader network behind these fraudulent activities.
Sharing the details, Additional Director General of Police , Cyber Crime, V Neeraja said that a thorough investigation was carried out under the supervision of Inspector Jujhar Singh after a victim, who was duped of ₹15 lakh, filed a complaint.
The team, using multiple OSINT techniques and technical assistance from the Samanvay portal of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, managed to establish the identity of the accused persons and eventually arrested them, the ADGP added.
She said further investigation regarding the virtual mobile numbers and the fake bank accounts, traced to Delhi and NCR region, is in progress.

Suspend Cop Who Did Not Act In SC/ST Act Case: Madras High Court
Chennai: The Madras High Court has ordered the Director General of Police to suspend the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Kottakuppam range for failing to take appropriate action in a case filed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The case pertains to a land dispute in Vanur, Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, between Senthamarai, from the Scheduled Caste community, and Veerasami from another community. The district court had ruled in favour of Senthamarai, and the High Court upheld the ruling. However, Kesavan, from a different community, later claimed ownership of the land and allegedly threatened Senthamarai and his family. Despite a complaint filed in 2023 at the Vanur police station, no action was taken. In 2024, when a relative of Senthamarai went to inspect the land, he was abused with casteist slurs, physically assaulted, and his phone was snatched by Kesavan. Though a case was registered under the SC/ST Act, police allegedly failed to act, while a counter-complaint from Kesavan led to a case being filed against seven members of Senthamarai's side. Senthamarai submitted a plea demanding action against the police officer for bias and inaction. After hearing arguments, Justice P. Velmurugan observed that the DSP had acted in a one-sided manner and did not conduct a proper investigation. The court today directed the DGP to suspend the officer and submit a report to the court. The case has been adjourned for further hearing.

478 held by She Teams for sexual harassment during Bonalu and Moharram
A total of 478 individuals, including 92 minors, were nabbed by the She Teams of the Hyderabad Police, for various offences related to harassment and inappropriate behaviour in crowded public gatherings during Bonalu and Moharram in July 2025. Of those caught, 386 were adults. Among those picked up, 288 were let off with warnings after counselling, while four individuals were booked under petty cases that led to convictions and fines totalling ₹1,050. In a separate set of petition disposals, five offenders were convicted, one of whom received imprisonment along with a fine, while four others were fined ₹50 each. Additionally, eight FIRs were registered across different police stations in the city. The police said that several individuals were caught red-handed for misbehaving with women devotees at prominent religious sites such as Golconda Bonalu, Balkampet Yellamma Temple, and Secunderabad's Ujjaini Mahakali Temple. To manage the large festive crowds and enhance women's safety, up to 14 She Teams were deployed at various locations. Beyond enforcement, the teams also undertook extensive outreach efforts. A total of 124 awareness programmes were conducted, alongside 1,405 observations in public spaces and 352 mobile campaigns using audio-visual (AV) vehicles in an attempt to promote awareness about safety, encourage reporting of harassment, and reinforce a culture of zero tolerance towards gender-based misconduct. In an advisory issued to the public, She Teams warned citizens to remain cautious online. People were urged to be wary of fake social media profiles, avoid oversharing personal information, and secure their digital accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication. Andhra Pradesh govt. drops all proceedings against retired IPS officer Venkateswara Rao
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has officially dropped all further proceedings against retired IPS officer A.B. Venkateswara Rao, former Additional Director-General of Police (Intelligence), following the quashing of an FIR and chargesheet by the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. In G.O. RT No.1334 issued on Tuesday, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand said the case registered against Mr. Venkateswara Rao by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) under multiple IPC Sections, including 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), and 409 (criminal breach of trust), and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act was no longer valid in the light of the High Court's ruling. The FIR and subsequent chargesheet filed before the Special Judge for SPE & ACB Cases in Vijayawada were quashed by the High Court, in response to a criminal petition filed by Mr. Venkateswara Rao. After examining the case, the State government decided not to pursue the Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court, and formally issued orders to cease all further legal and departmental action. The Director-General of Police was directed to implement the decision accordingly.
