Allahabad HC grants bail to Lucknow University professor over her remarks on Pahalgam attack
A single judge bench, of Justice Rajeev Singh, granted relief to Kakoti in the FIR filed against her at the Hasanganj police station in Lucknow based on a complaint by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leader Jatin Shukla in April, this year.
In his complaint, Shukla accused Kakoti of targeting India's unity, integrity, and sovereignty through posts on her X (formerly Twitter) handle. He in his complaint alleged that Kakoti frequently used terms such as 'saffron terrorists' on her platforms and added that some of her posts had reportedly been shared by Pakistani media channels.
Kakoti was subsequently booked for several offences, including endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.
The April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam claimed 26 lives and left 17 others injured. In the wake of the attack, several states—including Assam—launched crackdowns on individuals accused of making statements perceived as pro-Pakistan.

The front had claimed responsibility for the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, that left 26 civilians dead. Islamabad had earlier said that the India-Pakistan ties would come up for a discussion during Ishaq Dar's visit to Washington. "Exchange of views will also take place on the Pakistan-India question," Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said on Thursday. The US has time and again claimed credit for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, a claim New Delhi has denied multiple times, but Islamabad as accepted. "We remain grateful for the role played by the US in de-escalation of tensions leading to ceasefire,' Khan had said, briefing on Ishaq Dar's US visit agenda. India's stance on Pak harbouring terror India has long maintained that the Pakistan government and army is involved in cross-border terrorism, and funds and harbours terrorist groups. Days after the Pahalgam attack and India's Operation Sindoor launched in retaliation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address had said, 'While India believes in tourism, Pakistan considers terrorism as tourism, which is very dangerous for the world." He had also called terrorism a means of making monetary gains for the Pakistan government and army, urging the Pakistani population to fight against terror. Munir held separate meetings with V-P Han Zheng, top military official general Zhang Youxia and foreign minister Wang Yi, according to official media reports. This is Munir's first visit to China after India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistam in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. During the conflict, Pakistan used extensive military equipment supplied by China. This is also Munir's first visit to China after his trip to Washington, where he met US President Trump and sought to establish close ties with America, Beijing's strategic rival. The visit coincides with Pakistan's foreign minister Ishaq Dar making a trip to Washington, where he is expected to meet US secretary of state Marco Rubio. Dar was in China July 14 to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organisation foreign ministers' meeting. A Pakistan military statement said that in their talks, the "Chinese leadership lauded Pakistan armed forces as a cornerstone of resilience and a vital contributor to peace in South Asia. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the depth of bilateral engagement and reiterated shared commitment to sovereign equality, multilateral cooperation and regional stability."

NIA court declares Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin proclaimed offender under UAPA
An NIA court here on Friday declared Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen chief Mohammad Yousuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin a proclaimed offender under the UAP Act. Srinagar Police has appealed to the public for any information on the whereabouts of Salahuddin(HT/File) The special designated court under NIA Act, Srinagar, issued a proclamation requiring the appearance of Shah, a resident of Soibugh, Badgam, in connection with serious charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Ranbir Penal Code. According to court records, a challan was filed alleging that the accused has committed offences punishable under Sections 13 and 18 of the UA(P) Act and Section 505 of the RPC in Zakura police station. Despite a warrant being issued for his arrest, law enforcement authorities have reported that Salahuddin could not be found and is believed to have absconded or is deliberately concealing his whereabouts to evade arrest. In light of these circumstances, the court declared Salahuddin as absconding and issued a proclamation requiring his appearance before the court on or before August 30, to answer the charges framed against him. Failure to appear may lead to further legal action, including proceedings under Section 82/83 of the Code of Criminal Procedure pertaining to the attachment of property of an absconder. Srinagar Police has appealed to the public for any information on the whereabouts of Salahuddin and urged cooperation in the interest of justice and public safety.
