Pals order taxi from Paris to UK after missing flight racking up huge fare
Many people on social media were stunned to see the meter on the taxi had run up to €1,773 (£1,520) with many curious to know if that was the full amount paid during the trip A man ordered a taxi from Paris to Manchester after reportedly missing a flight back home, leaving people stunned by how much money the meter was running up. TikTok user Vicyspam said he and four other mates had missed the flight back to Manchester after they travelled to the French capital for the Fete de la Musique event. But after the festival ended, the five lads needed to get back home. The social media user uploaded a viral video of the group in a taxi on their way back to Manchester with viewers being stunned by what appeared on the meter. As the camera panned up, it could be seen the meter was on €1,773 (£1,520). Since being uploaded about a week ago, the clip has been viewed more than 3million times on TikTok and has racked up an impressive 125,800 likes. Hundreds of people commented on the post with several questioning whether the meter was actually running. Ben Gilliam said: "Surely you'd agree a fixed rate for a journey like that." Another added: "There's no way my man is driving cross border on a meter. They probably agreed a price with him before and then the meter was just running." Other confused TikTok users raised other questions, with a third posing: "So, nobody going to talk about the fact that taxi driver actually accepted to drive them all the way to Manchester." Another commenter said: "For that much you could have spent another week there, enjoyed yourself and book a £50 Ryanair flight home." TikTok user vicyspam later shared an update explaining how they ended up needing a taxi back to Manchester. In a separate video, he revealed their Airbnb was two hours away from the airport and that they got caught in busy Monday morning traffic, meaning they ended up missing the flight back home. "All the flights back for the same day were fully booked," he said. "And for the next day, we were paying nothing less than two bills (£200)." They looked at other options, such as getting a coach and taking the Eurostar before settling on a taxi to Manchester for an estimated 9:30 hour-long trip. "The idea to take a taxi to Manchester started off as a joke," he added. "But then we were like, 'we might as well ask around." The taxi driver revealed it was his first time being asked to drive over to the UK and that it would be his first time in England. Vicyspam then answered what had been on everybody's mind, namely that they had agreed a price before. He revealed it was around £200 per person, more than half than was displayed on the meter. "That was including the price for the Eurotunnel as well," Vicyspam continued. "So, all in all, it was blessed, man."

France Is No Longer France
French authorities detained 12 suspects after 145 people reported being pricked with syringes during Fête de la Musique — France's annual World Music Day celebration. For perspective on how dramatically the festival has changed in three decades, compare the atmosphere of the 1994 event to the chaos seen this past weekend. Fête de la Musique in Paris in 1994 vs. is no longer France. — iamyesyouareno (@iamyesyouareno) June 23, 2025 Millions flooded the streets across France on Saturday to celebrate the universal language of music through open-air concerts, pop-up performances, community orchestras, DJ sets, and more. While footage earlier in the day showed an orderly atmosphere, the night quickly descended into unrest. 🔴🔞🇫🇷 ALERTE VIDÉO | Compilation des vidéos de la #FetedelaMusique — Jon De Lorraine (@jon_delorraine) June 22, 2025 🇫🇷🔥France: Clashes with police and tear gas during the Festival of Music 2025 in Paris (Fête de la Musique).371 arrested and 1,500 injuries were made during the 2-day festival, which descended into chaos. 🙄 Vidéos ⤵️ — Outofnone (@Outofnone1) June 22, 2025 State-owned international news television France 24 provided more color on the stabbings: Before the party, posts on Snapchat and other social media had called for targeting women during the festivities. The interior ministry said 145 victims reported being stabbed with needles across the country, with Paris police reporting 13 cases in the capital. Officials did not specify if they were cases of so-called needle spiking with date-rape drugs such as Rohypnol or GHB, used by attackers to render victims confused or unconscious and vulnerable to sexual assault. "Some victims were taken to hospital for toxicological tests," the ministry said. In Paris, investigations were opened after three people including a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old male, reported being stabbed in three different locations in Paris, prosecutors said. We need to revisit footage from the 1994 Fête de la Musique to understand what went wrong with society. The difference is stark, and much of the blame likely lies with decades of failed progressive policies that have eroded society, fueling chaos and lawlessness. Mass migration has likely accelerated these problems. Also read: Emirates Unveils New-look Airbus A350 at Paris Airshow, Deepening $130bn Investment Ties With France

Overall, there were 12 arrests related to the syringe attacks, the interior ministry said in an emailed statement on Monday. On June 21, Paris firefighters said they were receiving a large number of calls related to high attendance at the festival in a post on X. According to Paris police, there were 13 cases of people saying they were pricked in the capital, The Guardian reported. It was not revealed by authorities what the contents of the syringes were; however, the interior ministry said some victims were taken to hospital for toxicology tests. French publication France Info reported that investigations were opened after three victims, including an 18-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl, became ill. At 9:15 p.m., Grosdidier said the first such assault was reported in Metz. The victims were approximately 15 young girls between the ages of 14 and 20 years old. Using video footage of a suspect, police were able to identify and arrest him. Grosdidier said he hopes the investigation will help authorities identify other assailants. Grosdidier also said that police arrested an individual who slapped a young girl and broke up some fights in the area, likely provoked by alcohol consumption. He posted a series of photos from the festival that showed him speaking with authorities. French media such as Le Monde as well as The Guardian corroborated Grosdidier's point that there were calls on social media platforms to assault festival-goers with syringes. The attacks were wide-ranging, with four arrests in the southwestern city of Angoulême and roughly 50 victims. In the Normandy region, several women in Évreux and Rouen were reportedly pricked with needles, per French media site Ici. Investigations were opened and it was not immediately clear if the syringes had any substances inside them. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. In the city of Tours, Ici reported that there were 13 people who were victims of a syringe attack. 'For several months, numerous cases of syringe attacks have been reported throughout France, often during festivals or soirées,' the caption of the post said in French, adding that the syringes could be filled with dangerous substances. A video accompanying the post said that those pricked with a syringe may feel suddenly ill or suffer from dizziness. It urged festival-goers to be vigilant. There were more than 370 people detained throughout the festival weekend across France for a variety of charges, according to Agence France-Presse.
