Meghan's As Ever jam is actually made in factory 2,000 miles from Montecito

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, had claimed the first batches of her latest As Ever products, including her jam and £21-a-jar honey, had sold out within hours of release
A jam Meghan Markle has released under her new brand As Ever is actually made 2,000 miles from her mansion.
The pricey preserve is said to be "inspired by the recipe Meghan crafted in her home kitchen" and an Instagram video shows a fruity mixture bubbling in a pot at the duchess' Californian property. However, it has now been revealed the jam - which Meghan sells for £6.50 per jar - is produced in a factory in Illinois, some 2,000 miles from Montecito.

It is actually manufactured by the same US giant which sells Meghan's £9 packs of herbal tea. It also makes her sold-out orange blossom honey, priced at £21-a-jar – although it is not known whether it manufactures her newly released apricot preserve. Meghan, 43, had claimed last week the first batches of the apricot preserve and other new treats had sold out within hours of release online.

But one tough food critic told the media she felt the jam was "a real disappointment" upon reviewing the fruity spread. Donna Collins blasted the jam, describing it as "too runny" to work.
And mother-of-two Meghan faces more scrutiny today after it has emerged The Republic of Tea, which produces the jam, is based 2,000 miles from Montecito, quite the contrast to the homely image the duchess has presented in marketing for the preserve.
A source close to the duchess said in order to formulate the commercial product, As Ever started with the spread Meghan makes at home "and worked to develop a version of it that could be produced at scale".
Meghan's website, though, describes her "signature" raspberry jam as "inspired by the recipe she made in her home kitchen" – and says it was deliberately crafted with a fluid texture". On her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, she described harvesting berries and making small batches of jars in her kitchen, adding: "I did save one of 50 for my mom."
However, a source close to Meghan has confirmed to the Daily Mail that The Republic of Tea makes her As Ever raspberry spread, but a new supplier would soon be used. The Republic of Tea's headquarters is in Larkspur, California, 350 miles from Meghan's mansion - but the factory in which the jam is said to be made is in Illinois, which is in the Midwestern United States.
In a statement given to the Mail, Netflix said: "Netflix and As Ever take pride in working with best-in-class vendors that meet our high standards for exceptional products. It's been exciting to see how much fans have embraced the As Ever product line, with the first two launches selling out so quickly We're looking forward to continued success as we expand and release more As Ever product throughout the year and beyond."

Meghan's wine with ‘essence of sun-drenched outdoor moments' goes on sale

Meghan launched her As Ever Napa Valley Rose 2023, described as having 'soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish', on Tuesday. In a post on Instagram, her As Ever brand said: 'It's here! Raise a glass to the newest addition to the As ever family. Our beautiful Napa Valley rose is now available'. A short clip showed the wine being poured into a glass, with accompanying sound. The pale pink wine, in a clear bottle with a white gold-rimmed label, was launched on a dedicated where an over-21 birth date must be inputted to enter and where the drink was described as: 'A delicately balanced rose with soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish.' The site adds: 'Reminiscent of the finest Provencal styles, it's crisp, pale in color, and effortlessly elegant – crafted for slow afternoons and golden-hour gatherings. 'This rose captures the essence of sun-drenched outdoor moments through its thoughtfully crafted blend.' The wine is not available to buy in orders of less than three bottles. Three bottles cost 90 US dollars (£65.64), six bottles cost 159 dollars (£115.97) including a 12% discount, and 12 bottles are priced at 300 dollars (£218.81) including a 17% discount. Shipping, which begins on July 9, costs an additional flat rate 20 dollars (£14.59) per order. Meghan's wine has an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 14.5%. According to the Drink Aware charity, most wines have an ABV of around 11-14%. Meghan added apricot jam to her collection in June after restocking her online store, with items selling out for a second time in a row. The duchess was shown drinking rose during the last episode of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan earlier this year when she offered chef Alice Waters a glass of wine. 'Would you like a glass of rose while we're cooking?' the duchess said, pouring from a bottle which does not appear to be As Ever wine, having a different label. Meghan added as she drank: 'Might be the best sip of wine I've ever had.' Napa Valley wine country is in northern California, around 50 miles from San Francisco.

I am 11 days post surgery. I'm good. Missing being an active Mum / human the most. "But it's been nice to slow down and Sky is having a blast with Nanny and Grandad.' She admitted the process hasn't been pain-free, adding, 'It's still uncomfortable / a little painful but I can handle that. I'm doing my exercises and taking all the healthy things. I have been trying to eat super clean. In a surprising move, the Price Tag hitmaker revealed she's stopped taking all painkillers. Jessie - who became a mum last year to son Sky with basketball player Chanan Colman - continued: 'I have stopped all pain meds. Just not my thing. Also like to feel how it feels so I don't overdo it. I have now done a [poo emoji]." "Still have my drain. Anyone else who has had this, did you feel like you are walking around one of those dog / duck toys?' 'I carry mine on the floor when I'm home so the gravity can help the drain. Hoping it's out by the end of the week. Despite the obvious challenges of recovery, Jessie said she's trying to stay in a grateful mindset, saying: 'I am feeling positive and grateful.' She also had a message for anyone who might bump into her out and about. Jessie said: 'If you do see me out, sitting in a park or coming out of a doctor's appointment or eating or walking or anything, and I seem a little out of it. I am. It's not personal. Jessie J reveals she's taking break from music to 'beat breast cancer' after shock diagnosis 'I don't have what I usually have to give energy wise, understandably. I will get there. It's a slow road. For now I am taking it easy. Enjoying the slow vibes and staying positive. Lots of love.' Last week, Jessie revealed she doesn't yet know if she's cancer free after her mastectomy. The musician had the operation earlier this week in a bid to beat her breast cancer, and some fans misinterpreted a post that stated: "Cancer has all gone." Jessie said her words had been "misunderstood" and that her statement was a "positive affirmation". She wrote: "I posted a list of pros and cons of having breast cancer surgery. The first pro I put was... the cancer has all gone'. 8 She admitted the process hasn't been pain-free Credit: Instagram 8 Jessie also had a message for anyone who might bump into her out and about Credit: Instagram "This was a positive affirmation NOT a fact. I don't have my results yet. I added the [fingers crossed emoji] in thinking people would understand and clearly a lot didn't. "A weird situation," she continued. "My fault for not being clearer. But for now I do not have my results after surgery which was only 6 nights ago. I pray it will be true soon but the journey of cancer isn't that simple unfortunately." Jessie is now taking a break from social media as she continues her recovery. "Tapping off socials for a week," she said. "Healthy and needed reset. To focus on my recovery and saying stuff that gets twisted of misread. "My head and boob hurts. Lol, Bye. Always loveeeee." After her operation, Jessie admitted she was struggling not being able to pick up her two-year-old son, Sky. She then outlined the 'pros' of the procedure, writing: "Cancer is all gone. "My nipple is where it used to be, I can watch Love Island with no guilt. "I am getting to rest and talk to friends more than ever. "My mum lives with us. Sky just being Sky. Chanan making me feel safe and the messages are 10/10. "Connecting with other people who are going through a similar time and being able to support each other." The list was then followed by a "cons" equivalent. "Not being the mum I'm used to being and picking Sky up," she typed. "The fear of not knowing if the cancer is all gone - the mental with this is... 8 "The pain and discomfort is ok and expected but a d******d when I'm trying to sleep." Jessie explained how the only painkillers she was allowed to take were paracetamol and ibuprofen due to having low blood pressure. She did try and clear up her post at the time, warning she hadn't meant for the statement to be read as "fact" and that she is still awaiting her results. The BRIT winner added: "I'm getting a lot of messages. Saying so happy all the cancer has gone. To be clear I added the [fingers crossed] emoji as it's a hope not a fact. "I only had my surgery 4 days ago. I was just saying the pros of surgery and this situation and being positive. But I will get my results soon. "And hopefully I can post that as a fact. But for now I don't know. But I will stay positive and talk what l want into the universe." Earlier this month, Jessie revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Incredibly, she went ahead and performed at this year's Capital Summertime Ball in London on June 15. Jessie held back tears as she told the crowd at Wembley Stadium that she was taking a break to "beat breast cancer". 8 The BRIT winner still doesn't know if she's cancer free following her mastectomy Credit: Instagram 8 Incredibly, she performed at this year's Capital Summertime Ball after her diagnosis Credit: Getty
