Netflix Is Making An Assassin's Creed' Show, Which Game Will Be Adapted?
More and more studios are rolling the dice on video game TV shows, given the recent success of live-action titles like Sonic, The Last of Us and Fallout, along with animated series, mostly on Netflix, like Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Arcane and Castlevania.
Now, Netflix is diving back in with a nearly 20-year-old franchise, Assassin's Creed. The streamer has just announced that it will be adapting the game for live action. But which game? That's a good question. They aren't saying, or even if they are adapting one of the games. The show will be made by Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, The Killing), so that's certainly a bit of a mixed bag (we don't talk about the live-action Halo show).
Here's the statement from the two about the news:
'We've been fans of Assassin's Creed since its release in 2007,' Wiener and Patino said. 'Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin's Creed opens to us. Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. It is about power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance. But more than anything, this is a show about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time. And it's about what we stand to lose as a species, when those connections break. We've got an amazing team behind us with the folks at Ubisoft and our champions at Netflix, and we're committed to creating something undeniable for fans all over the planet.'
Assassin's Creed Shadows
Well that's a bit flowery for this series in particular. And here's the official description: The Assassin's Creed show is ''centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind's future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity's destiny.'
In other words, this is about the Assassins versus the Templars and…that's it. We don't know if this is adapting a game, or making up its own story like the extremely bad (18% on Rotten Tomatoes) 2016 Assassin's Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender. Yeah, that did not go well.
Which game should be adapted? Well, if you want to go by the 'best' AC game, I suppose we can take a look at historical Metacritic scores. In chronological order:
Assassin's Creed II
The general pattern here is that the series started out strong back when it felt novel, with the Ezio-based ACII being the highest scored in the series. Then it went into a downturn with Unity and Syndicate. Now, it's gone up a bit, but not to the level of the old games.
Adapting the original AC may make the most sense, given that it serves as an origin story, and in theory, future seasons could continue on with other games and other assassins from other games. ACII is the highest scored. I would say Assassin's Creed Black Flag is the fan-favorite entry. Valhalla is the best-selling in the series. Assassin's Creed Shadows just came out and was a big seller. My personal favorite is Odyssey. I really, really would not recommend they invent a story out of thin air like they did before.
This partnership with Netflix and Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed has existed since 2020, but this is the first project to come from it. This news, however, does not come with an actual release date, or even a release window, and at this point, my guess would be 2027, as this is a pretty ambitious project. Hopefully we hear more actual details soon.

3 best comedies on Netflix to watch this weekend — all with 90% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes
July is a big month for Netflix comedies with "Happy Gilmore 2" making it debut on July 25, almost 30 years after the original's release. (Bizarrely, Netflix is pulling the first "Happy Gilmore" from the platform just days later on July 30.) But if you're looking for laughs in the meantime and don't want to sift through Netflix's expansive catalogue, we've got you covered. Decision paralysis is real, and with so much to choose from across the best streaming services, narrowing down what to watch can become a real pain. That's why we regularly comb through the new and best movies on Netflix to help you skip the scrolling and get to streaming. The movies below are a mix of hilarious genre-bending comedies that have earned at least a 90% or higher critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Granted, a high score doesn't guarantee something's a hit, but it is a good indicator of universal acclaim — and, more importantly, many laughs to be found in these flicks. Here are the best three comedies on Netflix to watch this weekend. Enjoy a healthy dose of sci-fi and social commentary served up with your laughs? "They Cloned Tyrone" is an audacious mash-up that could've easily gone off the rails, but under the direction of Juel Taylor, co-writer of "Creed 2" and "Space Jam: A New Legacy," the film holds together remarkably well for a bold and seriously entertaining watch. At the heart of it all is a stellar trio: John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, and Jamie Foxx share electric chemistry, and their dynamic is one of the film's biggest strengths. After Fontaine (Boyega), a low-level drug dealer, is gunned down, he wakes up the next day as if nothing happened. To get to the bottom of things, he joins forces with fast-talking pimp Slick Charles (Foxx) and no-nonsense sex worker Yo-Yo (Parris). In the process, the unlikely trio uncovers a top-secret government cloning conspiracy threatening their community. Watch it now on Netflix Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. For a fresh twist on the classic buddy-comedy formula, I can't recommend "One of Them Days" enough. It's a wild and very funny ride, and if you can get on board with the more ridiculous parts of their adventure, there's a lot to enjoy here. Keke Palmer has always had a magnetic screen presence, and SZA manages to match her charisma and sharp comedic timing effortlessly. Together, they create a believable, dynamic duo of the blind leading the blind into increasingly bonkers situations. The movie follows down-on-their-luck best friends and roommates Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA). After Alyssa's boyfriend runs off with their rent money, their landlord gives them until 6 p.m. to fork over the $1,500 they owe him or they're out on the street. Chaos ensues as they scramble to get a payday loan (despite hilarious warnings from Katt Williams' Lucky), accidentally piss off a gang leader, and stop at nothing to turn their fortunes around before it's too late. Watch it now on Netflix I went into "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" with next to zero knowledge about D&D, and expected all the jokes to fly over my head. Instead, I nearly busted my stitches from laughing so hard. Even if you've never rolled a D20 before (or don't have a clue what that is), if you enjoy an adventure that doesn't take itself too seriously, this is definitely one to add to your watchlist. It kicks off with charming bard Edgin (Chris Pine) and his tough-as-nails barbarian companion Holga (Michelle Rodriguez) cooling their heels in prison after a botched heist. After an unorthodox jailbreak (RIP Jarnathan), they assemble a ragtag crew — including insecure sorcerer Simon (Justice Smith) and the shape-shifting druid Doric (Sophia Lillis) — to go on a quest to save Edgin's daughter and retrieve a lost relic. Along the way, they also cross paths with Xenk (Regé-Jean Page), a noble paladin who's so absurdly overpowered that he becomes a walking punchline in the best way. Watch it now on Netflix

Audeze Maxwell Headset Makes Gaming Premium — GeekTyrant
Audeze recently sent me what is possibly the best gaming headset I have ever had the chance to try out for Xbox. The Audeze Maxwell headset is available now in two varieties (one for PlayStation with MSRP of $299 and one for Xbox with MSRP of $349) and I'm in love with it. Before I really get into it, I want to talk about some of the specifications. The Maxwell features over-the-ear and closed back headphones with 90mm drivers. It has a suspension headband instead of the more typical adjustable headband and is advertised to have a battery life of 80+ hours. As far as connectivity, the Maxwell can use Bluetooth 5.3, wired USB, wired 3.5mm, and a USB dongle with ultra low latency wireless. It also has Xbox Wireless via the USB dongle. Maxwell also offers integrated A.I. noise filtration for the microphone as well as microphone EQ controls. In addition, the Xbox version comes with an embedded license to Dolby Atmos for the optimal audio experience while gaming. That's enough boring talk. The Maxwell is absolutely incredible. The audio quality is absolutely fantastic. Everything sounds so clear and crisp. Combined with the fact that it is very comfortable to wear, and it's just a fantastic headset. The padding they use for the cups is just very comfortable yet secure. The use of the suspension headband actually works better for staying on my head when I bend over versus pretty much any adjustable headband headset. Before the Maxwell, my only other Xbox headset was the Razer Kaira Pro. This was a decent headset, especially for the price. However, it's safe to say that the Maxwell blows it out of the water (albeit with a price tag over double). I recorded a few samples using the Kaira Pro, the Maxwell, and my go-to PC mic the Dark Matter Sentry. I had fairly loud music playing in the background as I recorded each sample and tested external and internal microphones on both headsets and various levels of noise suppression on the Maxwell. In my opinion, the Sentry gives the best audio quality, but it also lets a lot of the background music through. The Maxwell is definitely in second place though with the external boom mic and has much quieter background noise, even with the noise suppression turned off.

Marvel's Ultimate Universe Is Approaching Its Endgame
Since its launch at the top of 2024, Ultimate Marvel has been working toward a finish line that's soon approaching. Days ago, Marvel teased the alt-universe's first proper event, Ultimate Endgame kicking off in December. In the comics, the Maker—the evil version of Reed Richards from the original Ultimate Marvel books—made this new universe with the specific intent of leaving it without any heroes to stop his oppressive regime. Since his imprisonment, various heroes have emerged and have been either doing their own thing or intentionally preparing for his eventual return. While Marvel's keeping specifics under wraps at the moment, it released two teaser images that aim to really drive home the event's significance and establish some of its major players. Both covers mimic the teaser and initial posters of Avengers: Endgame, which kickstarted the MCU's current multiverse obsession and closed out the Infinity Saga. The parallels are likely intentional, since Marvel's billing Ultimate Endgame as 'the showdown for the fate of the Ultimate Universe.' But like the movies, we've surely got more tales to tell in this world, whether the heroes win or lose against the Maker. Writers Jonathan Hickman (Ultimate Spider-Man) and Deniz Camp (The Ultimates), and other Ultimate creators will be at a San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday, July 26, where we'll learn more about what's in store for the event and possibly the larger Ultimate line.
