53 Palestinians killed despite fighting 'pause', 6 more die of famine
The victims include 29 people who were waiting for a humanitarian aid distribution in Khan Younis, in the south of the enclave, according to an official from the Nasser medical complex cited by the Qatari media outlet.
The Israeli army had announced a daily humanitarian pause, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (local time), in the areas of al-Mawassi, Deir el-Balah, and Gaza City, to allow for an increase in the delivery of aid in light of the worsening famine imposed in the besieged territory.
In addition, the Gaza Health Ministry announced on Sunday morning that six more people have died from famine and malnutrition in the last 24 hours, including two children. The total number of deaths from famine now stands at 133, including 87 children, according to the ministry.

Israel's military offensive and blockade have led to the "worst-case scenario of famine" in the coastal territory of some 2 million Palestinians, according to the leading international authority on hunger crises. A breakdown of law and order has seen aid convoys overwhelmed by desperate crowds. U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, who has led the Trump administration's efforts to wind down the nearly 22-month war and release hostages taken in Hamas' Oct. 7 attack that sparked the fighting, will arrive in Israel on Thursday for talks on the situation in Gaza. Spain to evacuate 13 ill children from Gaza for treatment
A Spanish military plane will fly 13 ailing children from war-torn Gaza and their families from Jordan to Spain for hospital treatment, Defence Minister Margarita Robles said Wednesday. An A400 military transport aircraft is being fitted with medical equipment and is scheduled to depart later Wednesday for Amman to bring them to Spain "so they can be treated," she said. Spain has repeatedly taken in sick children since the start of the Israeli offensive in Gaza sparked by Hamas's 2023 attack on Israel. The country's leftist government has been among the most vocal critics in the European Union of Israel's ongoing military campaign in the densely populated, narrow coastal strip. "The situation in Gaza is absolutely terrible. The level of cruelty shown by [Benjamin] Netanyahu is absolutely unacceptable, and I believe the international community must respond," Robles said, referring to Israel's prime minister. Earlier this week, the Spanish government said it would airdrop 12 tonnes of food into Gaza as the threat of famine stalks the Palestinian territory after 21 months of war. A similar airdrop of 26 tonnes took place in March 2024.
