John Size takes lead in trainers' premiership with Sha Tin four-timer
While he was forced to settle for placings in both of the afternoon's Group Ones, Size enjoyed victories with Sky Jewellery, Crossborderpegasus, Juneau Pride and Brilliant Express.
The haul moved Size to 32 winners for the season and above David Hayes in the title race by virtue of having more seconds than his fellow Australian.
It was Hugh Bowman in the saddle for the wins of Sky Jewellery and debut winner Crossborderpegasus, with the jockey atoning for his luckless last-start defeat on Sky Jewellery to celebrate his 200th Hong Kong win aboard the promising youngster.
Super win, Sky Jewellery! 🚀

The Australian ace made amends after Sky Jewellery was fourth as the $1.5 favourite at Happy Valley, when he was badly held up for clear running from the 250m to 100m.
Biding his time near the tail of the field, Sky Jewellery stormed home in the straight to run down South Star by a neck in the Class Four Citigold Private Client Handicap (1,400m).
'He was obviously unlucky last start and he's shown a lot of potential,' Bowman said of the three-year-old, who is already being touted as a 2026 Hong Kong Derby (2,000m) prospect.
'Up in distance today was fine but he had to overcome [barrier 13] and he did it in style.'
Bowman didn't have to wait long for his 201st victory in the city, with three-year-old Crossborderpegasus prevailing in the very next race, the Class Four Citigold Handicap (1,200m).
'He did enough to get home and that's the main thing. It was good,' Size said after Crossborderpegasus backed up his impressive trial form to beat fellow debutant Ahren by three-quarters of a length.
After Brenton Avdulla booted Juneau Pride home in the Class Three Citi Wealth Advisory Services Handicap (1,400m), Alexis Badel delivered the goods aboard Brilliant Express in the Class Three Citi Insurance Services Handicap (1,400m).
'He's starting to work it out and there seemed to be no competition for the front today, so it looked like they gifted it to him,' Size said after Brilliant Express led throughout to notch his second consecutive success.

'Still, he did it and he's run some time, so we'll go forward confidently.'
Size confirmed Howdeepisyourlove will head to Dubai for the Group One Al Quoz Sprint (1,200m) down the Meydan straight on April 5.
'They ran well,' Size said after stablemates Helios Express, Howdeepisyourlove, Beauty Eternal and Red Lion filled the four spots behind Ka Ying Rising in the Group One Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (1,400m).
'Those four horses seem to turn up all the time, but as is the case, we have dominant horses here in Hong Kong and they're expected to win and mostly they do.
'I think Howdeepisyourlove can go to Dubai. He looks OK for that.'
Avdulla and Badel joined Bowman with doubles on the day, with Avdulla also snaring the Class Four Citi Ultima Handicap (1,600m) aboard Mister Dapper and Badel taking out the Class Three Citi Investment Services Handicap (1,200m) atop Triumphant More.
Shinn works his Magic
A patient ride by Australian jockey Blake Shinn helped Magic Control score his third victory down the Sha Tin straight in the Class Two Citi Private Bank Handicap (1,000m).
Known for racing on the speed in his Hong Kong career so far, the Cody Mo Wai-kit-trained gelding settled second last under Shinn and launched a strong run down the centre of the track to easily account for James Tak by a length and a half.

'That wasn't the plan to sit back but the speed was fast and he wanted to settle and with the weight [135 pounds], he needed all the favours and we had a good run and he displayed a great turn of foot,' Shinn said.
A Group Three winner when known as Archo Nacho in Australia pre-import, Magic Control added to his strong 1,000m record at Sha Tin which also includes seconds in the Group Three National Day Cup and Group Three Bauhinia Sprint Trophy.
Mo said the four-year-old would step back up to 1,200m in a Class One sprint on March 9, while the Group Two Sprint Cup (1,200m) on March 30 is another possible target.
Blowout victory leaves So smiling
Punters were reeling early at Sha Tin on Sunday as Carryon Smiling left his trainer Chris So Wai-yin grinning from ear to ear with a knockout victory at $84.7 in the second section of the Class Four Citi Wealth Handicap (1,400m).
The second-roughest winner of the season, Carryon Smiling broke his maiden at start six after an uninspiring start to his career.

'Well that was a big improvement,' said So after Carryon Smiling sliced through traffic from near the back of the field under Keagan de Melo.
'But for me, I thought he should run better. Two runs ago when he was sixth he was only beaten about three lengths and in his last trial you could see he was improving.
'Honestly, I think the horse needs further and he needs some equipment to help because Keagan said he is still very green.'
It wasn't all doom and gloom for punters, with the following eight favourites winning on the 10-race card.

Groves wins 20th Tour stage, Pogacar maintains lead
Groves wins 20th Tour stage, Pogacar maintains lead Kaden Groves celebrates winning stage 20 of the Tour de France. Photo: Reuters Alpecin rider Kaden Groves won stage 20 of the Tour de France on Saturday after a long-range escape that saw the Australian finish well ahead of the big guns. Runaway overall race leader Tadej Pogacar maintained his lead over Jonas Vingegaard ahead of Sunday's 21st and final stage in Paris. The Team UAE rider has a 4min 24sec advantage heading into what could be a tricky finale, a 132km ride from Mantes-la-Ville to the Champs-Elysees, but featuring three ascents of the cobbled streets of Montmartre. The champion-in-waiting was left shaking his head after almost getting taken down in a fall 500m from the line on Saturday, as lashing rain made the roads hazardous on the run into Pontarlier. This was a third stage win for Alpecin after Jasper Philipsen and Mathieu van der Poel took the two opening wins. "They gave me a free role in the final days," Groves said after both Philipsen and Van der Poel pulled out. "I'm going to enjoy this one and celebrate with my team and enjoy the Champs tomorrow." Just 158 riders crossed the rolling hills at the foot of the Jura, and many looked haggard after the fast racing in the Alps. So along the Swiss border, most of the peloton seemed happy to let an escape get a 7-minute lead after an exhausting slog that started July 5. (AFP)

British and Irish Lions beat Australia in first Test
British and Irish Lions beat Australia in first Test British and Irish Lions' Sione Tuipulotu celebrates scoring a try for the tourists. Photo: Reuters A relentless British and Irish Lions were ferocious in attack and solid in defence to edge a dogged Australia and win a bruising first Test 27-19 in Brisbane on Saturday. The tourists repeatedly laid siege to the Wallabies' line for a 17-5 lead at the break before soaking up second-half pressure to bank the win with both sides scoring three tries. A late Australia try meant the scoreline flattered a poor Wallabies side, with the Lions never looking in trouble after opening up a 24-5 lead shortly after half-time. Played in front of 52,229 fans at a sold-out Suncorp Stadium, many wearing the Red of the Lions, the tourists proved too strong for a brave, but outgunned Australian outfit. With Scottish fly-half Finn Russell pulling the strings in the backs and outstanding loose forwards Tom Curry and Tadhg Beirne dominating up front, the Lions showed why they went into the Test as firm favourites. But despite being behind for all of the match, the Wallabies didn't roll over, and fears of a huge defeat never materialised. The Lions now head to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for next Saturday's second Test 1-0 up in the three-match series. (AFP)

John Size secures 13th trainers' title as Bundle Award dramatically wins Sha Tin's feature
John Size won a 13th trainers' premiership at Sha Tin on Sunday thanks to a treble on the night spearheaded by Bundle Award's last-gasp win in the feature Class One Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Association Trophy (1,600m). The 71-year-old entered the penultimate meeting of the season with a six-win lead over David Hayes but put the exclamation point on his season by sprinting into a nine-win lead to put the race beyond doubt. With Hayes having entries in only eight of the nine races at Happy Valley on Wednesday, it left Size with an insurmountable lead and saw him crowned champion. 'There's a lot of satisfaction in [winning] and probably something I'm very grateful to achieve,' Size said. 'It's a very strong and stiff competition and so therefore you have to rise up to it. 'As I've said before, I'm surprised that I've been so successful in Hong Kong. It's always been a test of if I can keep performing at that level and so far I've been able to over 24 years and, God willing, if my health is still OK, I can do it for a little bit longer.' Huuuuuuuuge finish! Bundle Award goes from last-to-first with @Atzenijockey to land the Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Association Trophy for John Size... 🏆#SeasonFinale | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 13, 2025 Sprinting home was also exactly what Bundle Award did after settling last in the feature and having a mountain to climb turning into the straight, still last as the field hit the 200m pole. Andrea Atzeni was in no mood to be denied, however, and got everything required out of his mount to sprint past the entire field in a matter of strides for an emphatic success. Hayes' fleeting hopes of a comeback were dented in the first race of the day when Size's Sight Dreamer landed the Class Five Miraculous Handicap (1,400m), once again ridden by Atzeni. The Almanzor galloper enjoyed the perfect trip just ahead of midfield and after charging to the lead at the 300m peg, he had plenty in reserve to fend off Fight Time in the closing stages. Size went two up on the evening when the aptly named Raging Rapids split horses to win the Class Four Medic Kingdom Handicap (1,400m) under Karis Teetan. Superb ride, @KarisTeetan! 👊 Raging Rapids scores a first win at Sha Tin as John Size extends his trainers' championship lead to eight... #SeasonFinale | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 13, 2025 Meanwhile, the race for the Tony Cruz Award was given some extra spice when Matthew Chadwick reduced Matthew Poon Ming-fai's lead to one thanks to Devas Twelve's triumph in the Class Four Pingwu Spark Handicap (1,400m). The Chris So Wai-yin-trained five-year-old travelled kindly in second throughout the journey and after overhauling long-time leader Glaciated, he had plenty in reserve to fend off Pejibaye late on. Derek Leung Ka-chun was also on the scoresheet thanks to Happy Universe's win in the Class Four Solar Hei Hei Handicap (1,600m), meaning he will enter Happy Valley on Wednesday just two behind Poon. It was another big night for champion jockey Zac Purton. Unsurprisingly, there was a four-timer on the card for Zac Purton too, with Circuit Mighty's gutsy win in the Class Five Mr Award Handicap (1,400m) putting trainer Manfred Man Ka-leung onto a career-best Hong Kong total. The victory secured Man a 45-win season, while Purton also struck aboard the Jamie Richards-trained Bulb General in the Class Four Victory Marvel Handicap (1,200m) and Jimmy Ting Koon-ho's Huge Wave in the Class Three Sight Winner Handicap (1,600m) – the second leg of a Ting double after Happy Universe's earlier win. His final win came in the last, with Beauty Bolt making it second time lucky with a late burst to win the Class Three All You Wish Handicap (1,400m) for trainer Tony Cruz.
