
Teen dies after being injected with painkiller medicine; two held in Hyderabad
The painkiller tablets were sold to the youngsters by two persons, including the owner of a medical shop, and the youth injected it after crushing the tablets and mixing them with saline water, a release from Rachakonda Police Commissionerate said.
After injecting the tablet, the trio, all friends, fell sick and were admitted to different hospitals in the city last week and a 17-year-old among them died while undergoing treatment on April 19, police said.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the father of the deceased, the Balapur police arrested the two accused after booking a case against them on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and under relevant sections of BNS.
The complainant stated that the two accused caused his son's death by indulging in selling the pills.
On the modus operandi, the police said the prime accused made friendships with youngsters in the locality and explained to them that if they inject the pain killerpills with mixing of saline water into the nerves, they get drowsiness.
He would initially provide the injections for free. After the youngsters got addicted, he would charge for them.
The accused purchased the painkiller tablets from the owner of the medical store.
Both the accused were aware that the usage of painkillers in heavy doses causes death and supplying it to minors is an offence, police said.
The police appealed to parents to observe their children's behavour closely, if found any abnormalities.
Police further said if the parents suspect that their children are taking any drug, then they should inform to the local police.
Medical shop owners were instructed not to sell any drug to the customers without any prescription. If any violation is found then legal action will be initiated, police added.

Woman lawyer killed in road mishap on old Pune–Mumbai highway
A speeding truck knocked down a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a woman lawyer, near Dapodi Metro station on the old Pune – Mumbai highway, on Friday. Police identified the deceased as Apeksha Thorat, 26. Her father Ashok Thorat, 55, an ex-serviceman residing in Khandve Nagar, Lohegaon, lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Dapodi police station in Pimpri Chinchwad. A press release issued by police on Saturday stated that Apeksha was on her motorcycle, when a speeding car crashed into her from the back around 3.30 pm. Apeksha died on the spot. Police sub inspector N B Pawale said Apeksha was a lawyer. Police identified the truck that knocked her down and booked the driver under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 106, 125(a), 125(b), 281 and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Further investigation was on, police said.

UP: 2 minor girls abducted at gunpoint, raped; accused absconding
Muzaffarnagar(UP), Jul 26 (PTI) Two minor girls, who are cousins, were allegedly gang-raped after being abducted at gunpoint from their home in the Budhana area, officials said on Saturday. A case was registered against the two accused, identified as Pradeep and Gaurav, under sections of the BNS and the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, Circle Officer (CO)Gajendra Pal Singh said, adding that both men are currently absconding and two police teams have been formed to arrest them. The incident came to light when the minors, aged 15 and 16, returned home and informed their family members about the alleged rape. According to the complaint lodged by the victims' family, Pradeep and Gaurav, also from the same village, arrived on a motorcycle and abducted the girls at gunpoint on Friday. The sisters were taken to another location where the alleged rape occurred. The minors have been sent for medical examination, the police said. Police invoke MCOCA against three held for cow slaughter in Maharashtras Thane
Thane, Jul 26 (PTI) Police in Maharashtra's Thane district have invoked stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against three persons arrested for allegedly slaughtering a cow, a top official said on Saturday. The incident had occurred during the intervening night of June 30 and July 1, in which the accused had stolen the cow from a cricket ground in Badlapur before the slaughter, he said. This is the second instance in the state in which the MCOCA has been invoked against the individuals accused of cow slaughter and related offences, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-IV Ulhasnagar) Sachin Gore said. 'The first such case (under MCOCA) was registered in Pimpri," he said, adding that this is the first instance in the Konkan range. Based on the complaint lodged by the owner of the cow, the police initially registered a case under section 303 (2) (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with the provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act. 'The police later arrested three persons in this connection. They are presently in police custody, and we have now slapped charges under the MCOCA against them," the DCP said.
