Cheltenham Placepot Tips For Day One of The Festival

Super-sub Jango Baie is no Sir Gino – sadly sidelined and missing from the line up for his trainer – but he boasts winning form round Cheltenham and should finish off the race strongly. He could also get placed and offers some insurance if the favourite underperforms.
The Ultima Chase (2.40pm) is a tough heat for placepot players to negotiate, but the younger less-exposed horses have a good record in recent renewals, so Broadway Boy and The Changing Man make plenty of appeal, while Henry's Friend is also improving at the right time.
Lossiemouth dominates the market on horse racing betting sites in the Close Brothers Mares' Hurdle (3.20pm) and should make a bold bid to defend her crown if her fall at Leopardstown last time hasn't dented her confidence.
The drying ground should play to the strengths of Take No Chances and she could outrun her odds with her form behind Wodhooh and Joyeuse here in December giving her a frame chance.
It is hard to envisage a scenario where both Constitution Hill and Brighterdaysahead are unplaced in an intriguing Unibet Champion Hurdle (4.00pm) so both make the perm, even if it is tempting to banker one of them.
The final leg looks another tricky event for backers with 22 juveniles vying for four places in the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (4.40pm). At least Stencil and Total Look have experience of the track and look to have the confirmations and ability to cope with one of the most well-contested handicaps of the week.
The duo both make the cut along with recent Southwell scorer Liam Swagger, who appreciated having the cheekpieces refitted on the level last time and looks overpriced for a team that is excellent with their juveniles.

As has so often been the case with those in charge at the BHA, it appears he's not too fussed about it. We have got used to leaders coming, messing up a few things, and going in a fanfare of what a marvelous job they have done. On ITV Racing's Opening Show on Saturday I asked four questions about Lord Allen and his objectives, and what help he might be. Usually when I do that my phone goes mad with people answering my observations and putting me right. On this occasion it was silent. Lord Allen and racing appear in favour of an independent BHA Board. Indeed this seems to be an absolute necessity. But no one has said who would be on it? I can't see how you could ever have one. Someone please explain. Who are you going to have - who is independent? Secondly, in recent days the Jockey Club and Ascot have come out insisting Lord Allen must be appointed. Have they done this knowing he won't join the BHA or he will? If you know he's not going to be on board then it would look as though you wanted to do the right thing for the sport but others stopped you. In some eyes that would give an organisation credit. Equally if he did become BHA chairman you will have Lord Allen's backing. It's clever if you think about it. And trust me, behind the scenes, whatever anyone says, this is about individuals rather than the good of the sport. It always will be and anyone who kids themselves otherwise is delusional. If Lord Allen is the savior, why is racing in turmoil about a current new tax on the sport? What is Lord Allen doing about it? Has he talked to Sir Keir Starmer? Again silence. And finally once again, how is it with all the people in horse racing we have who love the game - from the King and Queen down - no one seems to get through to Sir Keir that he might be on the verge of destroying British Racing? Sir Keir's wife, Victoria, was at Ascot on Saturday for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. It seems quite bizarre to me when you think what Government is threatening to do. July 28 - Minnesota Twins All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton has cartilage irritation in his rib cage and his status is day-to-day, the team announced Sunday. Manager Rocco Baldelli said after Buxton's MRI exam on Sunday that the outfielder will not be placed on the injured list. "It's a good outcome," Baldelli said. "We'll see how he is tomorrow and so on, but to be day-to-day with what he left the game with, it's a good thing. We'll measure him out, get him looked at by the trainers each day, get him a lot of treatment and, hopefully, he'll be back very soon." Buxton, 31, left Saturday's 9-3 loss to the visiting Washington Nationals because of left-side soreness and sat out Sunday, when Harrison Bader started in center field and the Nationals won 7-2 in Minneapolis. Though Buxton has dealt with a spate of injuries throughout his career, the two-time All-Star has mostly been healthy this season except for going on the concussion injured list in May. Buxton is hitting .282 with 23 homers, 59 RBIs and 17 steals in 85 games this season. He has a .343 on-base percentage, .561 slugging percentage and .905 OPS. He is a career .249 hitter with 156 homers and 412 RBIs in 857 games for the Twins since the 2015 season. Buxton earned the Gold Glove for American League center fielders in 2017.
