'Hydrogen Valley' in Amaravati to focus on sustainability: CM
Addressing the 'Green Hydrogen Summit-2025' at a private college in the greenfield capital city, Naidu noted that two valleys are coming up in Amaravati -- 'Quantum Valley' and 'Hydrogen Valley'. "I am very happy. We are focusing on Hydrogen Valley starting from here (Amaravati). Two valleys are coming here. One is Quantum Valley for computing and technology (and) one is the green Hydrogen Valley to protect nature for sustainability. This is very important," said Naidu.
According to the CM, protecting nature and imbibing technology in that endeavour will lead to limitless development. He observed that there is a need for green energy, downstream industries and the total ecosystem.
Further, the TDP supremo highlighted that the southern state is aiming to contribute nearly 160 GW of green energy in the near future out of the national target of producing 500 GW by 2030 set by the Centre. He noted that the TDP-led NDA government announced policies for attracting Rs 10 lakh crore investment in green energy, which could lead to the generation of 7.5 lakh jobs.
Listing out some of the green energy goals set by Andhra Pradesh, he said it aims to achieve electrolyser manufacturing capacity of 3 GW, solar energy projects (78.5 GW), wind energy projects (35 GW), pumped storage projects (22 GW) and others. Naidu said the state is aiming to achieve a battery energy storage system of 25 GW per hour, ethanol (50 kilo litres per day) and set up 500 electric vehicle recharging stations and elaborated on other renewable energy projects. To attract investments, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh has extended the best incentives, including for manufacturing electrolysers and called on investors to inform the government if any other state has given better incentives to outdo them. Further, he highlighted that Andhra Pradesh has all the advantages for solar, wind and pumped energy. As water is important for pumped energy, he said the state is endowed with this advantage and emphasised that ports are crucial for exports. For every 50 km distance, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh will establish a port, among other goals.

Battery materials manufacturer Epsilon Advanced Materials is prepared to enter into long-term strategic partnerships with the companies looking to source high-quality graphite anode and cathode materials outside China, a company official said. EV batteries are made of components like anode, cathode, electrolyte and separator. As of now China commands over 90 per cent of this graphite anode and cathode processing capacity which is used in electric vehicles. The recent curbs by China on the export of key battery-grade materials and technologies for both graphite anode and cathode (lithium iron phosphate-based) has intensified global concerns over supply chain vulnerabilities in the electric vehicle (EV) sector including in India. This development comes as India ramps up efforts to build a resilient, localised battery supply chain in the wake of China's tightening export restrictions on critical battery technologies. "Epsilon is ready to partner with cell manufacturers and Auto OEMs who are eyeing ex-China sourcing to secure long-term supply chain of high-quality anode materials and LFP ( lithium iron phosphate ) cathode while supporting their localization and sustainability objectives," company's Managing Director Vikram Handa said in an interview. China has a good early mover advantage and hence has been dominating the global battery materials supply chain for decades, but the recent export restrictions has shown how critical it is for battery manufacturers and auto OEMs to diversify their sourcing, outside of China, he explained. "To begin with, our integrated and proprietary synthetic and natural graphite anode materials allow us to provide a secure and consistent supply chain to our customers across geographies. We have strategically invested in R&D facility and commercial plant to ensure customer qualification samples to our customers for sample testing and qualifying them," he said. The company has its own proprietary technology for manufacturing lithium iron phosphate cathode with an R&D facility in Germany which makes them unaffected from the recent Chinese curbs. Many companies who were dependent on the Chinese LFP cathode technology to manufacture in India are stuck as they will have to now invest in their own R&D which takes 5-6 years to mature. "We have manufacturing plants in India, USA, and Finland with total capacity of 60,000 tonne by 2027 and 220,000 tonne by 2030 which make us the largest anode material producer outside China and will strengthen the resilience of our supply network. "The cathode material plant of 100,000 tonne by 2030 in India will make us Atmanirbhar in electric vehicle battery material supply chain. This multi-continent presence gives our international clients more flexibility, localised supply options, and a reduced risk of disruption," he explained. The company is investing Rs 15,350 crore in Karnataka to develop state-of-the-art manufacturing and research facility for electric vehicle battery materials, battery testing and advanced materials R&D.

Consumer panel asks Apple, Croma to refund customer's iPhone cost over microphone defect
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Mumbai (Suburban) held that the 'manufacturer (Apple) merely mentioning certain unauthorized modification or damage in hardware cannot be the correct resolution' for the customer's grievance. Both the manufacturer and the seller are 'jointly and severally liable for the defective product', the commission said in the order passed earlier this month, as the two companies failed to resolve the defect in the device purchased by the customer (now deceased). Mumbai, Jul 20 (PTI) A consumer commission here has directed Apple India and Croma to refund an i-Phone cost of Rs 65,264 to the legal heirs of a customer for failing to resolve a microphone defect in the device, holding the two companies deficient in service. It further ruled that the seller (Croma) too cannot escape liability merely by stating the 'defect is attributable to the manufacturer'. 'Once the product was sold through their outlet, they assumed responsibility for ensuring that the product was free from defects and serviceable,' the commission noted. It said the 'principle of vicarious liability squarely applies', as the seller stands in a position of trust and derives commercial benefit from the sale. The complainant purchased an iPhone 11 for Rs 65,264 from a Croma store in Mumbai on June 4, 2021. Shortly after the purchase, the device developed an issue as the speakerphone function was not working during calls, with specifically 'no speech from mic'. The complainant approached Apple's authorised service centre, but repairs were denied on the grounds of 'unauthorized modifications in the device,' rendering it ineligible for warranty service. Despite repeated complaints and emails, the opposite parties failed to address the grievance, following which the complainant approached the commission. During the course of proceeding, the customer passed away, but the complaint was continued by his legal heirs. The Apple India Private Limited, in its response, admitted the purchase and the issue with the microphone. But it reiterated that the device had unauthorised modifications, voiding the warranty. Infiniti Retail Limited (Croma) failed to appear and was proceeded against ex-parte. The commission, after perusal of documents on record, held that Apple failed to specify exactly which term or condition of the warranty was breached by the complainant. 'Merely referring clauses of warranty terms and condition cannot be sufficient to attribute the particular defect as certain unauthorized modification or damage to software,' it noted. The commission concluded that documents and evidence brought on record are sufficient to ascertain the defect in goods coupled with deficiency in service provided by the opposite parties. It ruled that both the manufacturer and the seller are 'jointly and severally liable for the defective product'. The commission directed both the opposite parties to refund the iPhone cost of Rs 65,264, along with a 6 per cent interest per annum from the date of the complaint (August 6, 2021) until the date of actual payment. The two companies were also directed to pay Rs 15,000 as compensation for mental agony and Rs 2,000 for legal expenses to customer's family.
