KL Tower to welcome back visitors tomorrow
PETALING JAYA : Kuala Lumpur Tower will reopen its doors to the public on Saturday, the communications ministry said.
The announcement comes a day after the CEO of the iconic landmark's new operator, LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd, said the tower would only be reopened to the public once all safety and operational aspects are fully restored.
'The reopening of Kuala Lumpur Tower is in line with the government's commitment to ensure the wellbeing of the employees and providing a safe and conducive environment for visitors,' the ministry said in a statement today.
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil had earlier this month announced the temporary closure of KL Tower starting April 17 to allow LSHSM to carry out maintenance and improvement works for the safety and comfort of visitors.
LSHSM was awarded a 20-year concession beginning April 1 to manage the telecommunications tower, following the expiry of Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd's concession on March 31.
Before the takeover, it was engaged in a legal dispute with Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB) and its parent company, Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd, over the concession.
MKLSB and Hydroshoppe are seeking RM20.13 million in losses and damages, as well as the transfer of the concession back to them.
LSHSM lodged a police report on April 1 after they were barred from entering the premises.

Creative economy gets 13MP recognition
PUTRAJAYA: The orange economy is a developing sector that has the potential to contribute to Malaysia's economic growth, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil ( pic ). Fahmi, who is also the government spokesman, said the sector, which includes creative industries such as film, music and animation, was included in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as a result of a proposal and engagement session between the Communications Ministry and the Economy Ministry. During the tabling of the 13MP in Parliament on Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government was committed to driving the growth of the creative economy through the high-potential digital creative industry. According to Anwar, the Matching Fund and Joint Production Fund will be implemented to encourage joint investments between the government and the private sector in the production of world-class content. 'The country's digital creative industry has generated income of RM6.3bil, with an export value of RM850mil,' he said.

Fahmi: Plans underway with DBKL, developers to untangle Bangsar gridlock

13MP: Communications Ministry To Brief MADANI Community, NADI Managers Tonight
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- Less than 12 hours after the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the Communications Ministry will hold a briefing session tonight for the MADANI Community and National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) managers to explain the plan's implementation to grassroots policy drivers. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the online session will involve 1,878 MADANI Communities and 1,099 NADI managers nationwide. He said the session is important to ensure that the efforts and initiatives of the MADANI Government are understood and widely disseminated to the public. 'We believe that by supporting the MADANI Community and NADI managers in spreading the government's efforts and intentions, the people will ultimately benefit. We expect more than 3,000 people to tune in to the briefing,' he said at a press conference after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented the 13MP in the Dewan Rakyat today. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said the 13MP, themed "Melakar Semula Pembangunan" (Redesigning Development), reflects the ideals of the MADANI Government under the MADANI Economy framework for the 2026–2030 period. 'We take into account and understand the various opportunities presented by megatrends as well as existing domestic challenges. The 13MP aims to address all dimensions, including economic sustainability, people's well-being, environmental conservation and the strengthening of governance,' he said. He added that the 13MP also focuses on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), with hopes of positioning Malaysia among the world's leading AI-driven nations within the next five years. Fahmi said the Communications Ministry will focus on developing the creative economy ecosystem and strengthening digital infrastructure through MyCreative Ventures and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), particularly in the animation industry. 'I'm glad to highlight efforts to strengthen the creative or 'orange' economy ecosystem, where we hope several initiatives will enhance competitiveness through the production of high commercial-value works for both domestic and international audiences,' he said.
