The Oman Paralympic Athletics team is set to compete today, Tuesday, in the Grand Prix Athletics Championship for Para Athletes, hosted in the Indian capital, New Delhi, from March 9 to 15. The championship features an elite lineup of the world's top para-athletes.
The Oman Paralympic Committee delegation arrived in New Delhi on Monday, comprising athletes Mohammed bin Jameel al Mushaikhi and Taha bin Abdullah al Harassi, alongside national coach Asaad al Qarni. The delegation is headed by Mohammed bin Abdullah al Hinai, Secretary-General of the Oman Paralympic Committee.
Mohammed al Mushaikhi will compete in the shot put and club throw competitions, while Taha al Harassi will participate in the 100-metre sprint and long jump competition.
Monday, the national team players underwent a training session under the supervision of coach Asaad al Qarni to acclimate to the championship environment and enhance their technical readiness.
Coach Asaad al Qarni emphasised that the team's preparations for the Grand Prix Championship followed a well-structured plan, involving intensive training phases to elevate the athletes' physical and technical levels. He explained that the preparations began some time ago, with the athletes undergoing an intensive training camp at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The camp included daily training sessions focused on refining performance in their respective events, in addition to specialised fitness programmes aimed at boosting endurance and physical strength to match the level of competition in the championship.
Al Qarni added, "We are aware that the Grand Prix Championship will witness fierce competition, given the participation of top para-athletes worldwide. This requires a high level of preparedness and both mental and physical readiness. Over the past period, we have worked on enhancing the athletes' techniques in their respective events and simulating competition scenarios to ensure their full readiness."
He continued, "We have great confidence in our athletes, as they possess a strong sense of determination and challenge. Our goal is not just participation but to compete strongly for top positions and achieve a new milestone for Oman Paralympic sports."
The Oman Paralympic Committee aspires to achieve outstanding results and secure podium finishes following an intensive preparation period. The athletes are eager to deliver a strong performance that reflects the progress of Paralympic sports in the Sultanate of Oman, with high hopes of achieving a new accomplishment to add to Oman's record in international competitions.

England win dramatic Lord's test by 22 runs
England beat India by 22 runs on a final day of simmering tension and high drama in the third test at Lord's on Monday to move 2-1 up in the series. Shoaib Bashir bowled Mohammed Siraj for four to seal victory, India's number 11 playing a defensive stroke before the ball trickled down the face of his bat and rolled on to the stumps as he watched on in disbelief. As the England players celebrated wildly, Ravindra Jadeja trudged off the field after making a valiant unbeaten 61 to take India to the brink of an extraordinary win. The hosts had looked on course for a far more comfortable victory when they reduced India to 112-8 at lunch, but Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah battled for nearly two hours to inch their team towards a target of 193. Jadeja was given out lbw to Chris Woakes by the umpire but the decision was overturned on review and the left-hander heaved the next delivery over mid-wicket for six, prompting loud cheers from the Indian fans. England finally made the breakthrough when Bumrah, on five, skied an attempted pull off Ben Stokes and was caught by substitute fielder Sam Cook. The majority of the crowd erupted with a mixture of joy and relief but Jadeja continued to frustrate England, reaching his 50, off 150 balls, by edging Stokes over the slips for four. Siraj survived 30 deliveries for his four runs as Jadeja farmed the bowling and took a succession of singles off the fourth ball of the over to dominate the strike. Siraj suffered a painful blow to his shoulder after being struck by a Jofra Archer delivery and shortly afterwards his resistance was finally broken. ENGLAND'S MORNING England had claimed four wickets in the morning to take charge of the match after India resumed on 58-4. Rishabh Pant played an extraordinary one-handed straight drive for four off Archer to move to nine, but the fast bowler responded two balls later with an excellent delivery which uprooted his off stump. Stokes snared KL Rahul lbw for 39, the England captain dropping to his knees and imploring the umpire to give him out. He refused to do so but England called for a review and the decision was overturned to huge cheers from the crowd. Washington Sundar was next to fall for a duck, Archer leaping to his right to take a superb one-handed catch off his own bowling. Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy frustrated England with solid defence in a partnership of 30 until Woakes found the edge of Reddy's bat just before lunch to give the hosts a huge lift as they left the field to warm applause from a packed crowd. The series is level at 1-1. — Reuters

England bounce back against India
London: Chasing a target of 193, India ended Day 4 in deep trouble at 58 for 4 in their second innings against England in the third Test at Lord's on Sunday. At stumps, KL Rahul stood firm on 33 (not out), while night-watchman Akash Deep was bowled by England skipper Ben Stokes off the final delivery of the day — a blow that left India trailing by 135 runs heading into a tense final day. India's top order faltered under pressure, with Yashasvi Jaiswal falling for a duck, Karun Nair dismissed for 14, and captain Shubman Gill managing only 6 as England's bowlers made early inroads in the low-scoring chase. Earlier in the day, England were dismissed for 192 in their second innings, lasting 62.1 overs. Washington Sundar led India's bowling effort with a superb spell of 4 for 22, while Mohammed Siraj (2/31) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/38) picked up two wickets apiece. Akash Deep chipped in with one. Resuming the third session at 175 for 6, England lost their final four wickets for just 17 runs. Washington struck early after tea to remove Ben Stokes for 33 and later wrapped up the innings by bowling Shoaib Bashir (2). Bumrah claimed the wickets of Chris Woakes (10) and Brydon Carse (1) to complete a disciplined effort by the Indian attack. Sundar took four wickets, including the prize scalps of Joe Root, Jamie Smith and England captain Ben Stokes. Root and Stokes kept India at bay for much of the afternoon's play after coming together shortly before lunch with England in trouble at 87-4. But a partnership worth 67 ended when Root, who made a hundred in the first innings, was bowled behind his legs for 40 after missing a sweep against Sundar. New batsman Smith's three previous scores this series had been 184 not out, 88 and 51. But the wicketkeeper managed just eight before he was bowled by a Sundar delivery that kept a touch low. Sundar, on an increasingly helpful pitch, had now taken two wickets for three runs in 11 balls, with England 164-6. All-rounder Stokes, without a Test hundred in over two years, demonstrated great discipline while batting throughout all of Sunday's second session. But, in common with several England team-mates, he gave his wicket away when on 33 the left-handed batsman swung himself off his feet trying to slog Sundar and was clean bowled. Washington Sundar celebrates with Ravindra Jadeja after taking the wicket of England's Joe Root. Stokes banged his bat on the turf in anger, with England now 181-7. And that became 182-8 when Jasprit Bumrah, the world's top-ranked Test bowler, took his first wicket of the innings with a yorker that was too good for Brydon Carse. Bumrah then bowled Chris Woakes with a superb delivery that seamed in down the slope to clip leg stump before Sundar knocked over last man Shoaib Bashir's stumps to end the innings. England resumed on 2-0 with Zak Crawley, who had angered India late Saturday with his time-wasting tactics, alongside opening partner Ben Duckett. Duckett scooped a four off Mohammed Siraj but the fast bowler soon had his revenge when the left-hander, cramped for room, miscued a pull to Bumrah at mid-on to leave England 22-1. Siraj then risked disciplinary action after yelling in Duckett's face, with both players likely to attract the attention of match referee Richie Richardson after making shoulder contact. Crawley and Ollie Pope were then both fortunate to survive probing deliveries from Bumrah, who took 5-74 in England's first innings after being rested from India's win at Edgbaston that levelled this five-match series at 1-1. — Agencies
