Maha speaker makes NCP (SP), BJP MLAs apologise for scuffle
Supporters Of BJP & NCP (SP) MLAs Clash MUMBAI: A day after supporters of NCP (SP) legislator Jitendra Awhad and BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar came to blows in the lobby of Vidhan Bhavan, both netas apologised on the directions of speaker Rahul Narwekar. Taking a strong view of the ruckus, Narwekar said such an incident had never happened before. One supporter of each MLA said to be involved in the clash will have to face the breach of privilege committee for maligning the image of the legislature. In addition, Narwekar said only legislators, their personal assistants and govt officials will be allowed into the House during the session. Even ministers will have to hold meetings requiring external visitors outside the assembly premises, he said. An ethics committee will also be set up, like in Parliament, to ensure legislators follow a code of conduct, he said. 'It is important to maintain public's belief in democracy. The state legislature is temple of democracy. Legislators need to uphold this tradition because they have taken an oath to follow the Constitution,' Narwekar said. He said after the scuffle, he sought a report from the security chief. Among those apprehended was Nitin Deshmukh who claimed he was Awhad's supporter and Sarjerao Bhosale, who was Padalkar's cousin. They will face the privileges committee and cases have been lodged against them and 6-7 others.

Messages Being Conveyed Through Punches, Kicks: D Fadnavis On Assembly Clash
Mumbai: Expressing concern over the clash between supporters of an NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA and a BJP MLA on the Maharashtra Assembly premises on Thursday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that, instead of discussions, messages are being conveyed through punches and kicks. Speaking in the Assembly on Friday, Mr Fadnavis said, "Messages should reach the public through thoughts and discussions but, unfortunately, messages are now being conveyed through kicks and punches." The chief minister also said some of the people involved in the clash in the lobby of the Assembly between supporters of NCP(SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad and BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar had several criminal cases against them. The security arrangement at the legislature, he stressed, will be made stricter and the entry of people would be regulated. Mr Fadnavis said his government is working towards a comprehensive and progressive Maharashtra and that many schemes changing the face of Mumbai are being implemented. "No one can ever separate Mumbai from Maharashtra, not in thousands of years to come," he said, adding that the voice of the Marathi 'manoos' (people) will also remain loud in Mumbai. The chief minister also made some announcements about local trains in Mumbai and the Dharavi redevelopment project. "Considering accidents in Mumbai local trains, new AC local trains with fully closed doors will be introduced. There will be no increase in fares, and the Union railway minister will announce a decision soon," he said. Mr Fadnavis also assured the residents of Dharavi that no one will be displaced. "Eligible residents will get new homes in Dharavi itself in the next 7 years, and business owners will get commercial units in the area. Ineligible residents will be given homes in other parts of Mumbai," he said.

Not governance, it's arrogance born out of power, says Uddhav Thackeray on violent clash in Maharashtra legislative assembly lobby
Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday attributed the clash between supporters of NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad and BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar in the assembly lobby and the incident of Shiv Sena legislator Sanjay Gaikwad slapping a canteen staffer over 'stale' dal to "arrogance born out of power". The scuffle in the assembly has tarnished Maharashtra 's image, Uddhav told mediapersons on Vidhan Bhavan premises on the last day of the monsoon session. He hit out at the BJP-led Mahayuti govt, noting the conduct of those in power was bringing shame to the dignity of the state. Asserting that the real problem was in the pursuit of power, he said, "This is not governance, it is arrogance born out of power." Uddhav asserted that he would not accept any attempt by govt to forcibly implement a three-language policy in the state. He clarified that he had no opposition to any language, only to the policy itself. On fighting polls jointly, Uddhav said, "There is no election announced at present. If one is declared, we can discuss it." He questioned the outcome of issues debated in the assembly and expressed concern over Maharashtra's rising debt burden. "The debt is growing. How are you going to reduce it? What about your brother-sister schemes? There are no answers. Nearly Rs 64,000 crore is being paid in the form of interest." (With PTI inputs)
