Farokh Engineer and legendary West Indies captain Clive Lloyd were on Wednesday honoured by the Lancashire County Cricket Club with stands named after them at the Old Trafford Stadium, on the opening day of the fourth Test between India and England.
Engineer, who represented Lancashire from 1968 to 1976, played 175 matches, amassing 5,942 runs, 429 catches, and 35 stumpings.
His arrival marked a turning point for the club, helping them win the Gillette Cup four times between 1970 and 1975 after a 15-year title drought.
Despite his deep ties to Indian cricket, including the memorable outings he had at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium, Engineer surprisingly does not have a stand named after him there.
Lloyd, a two-time World Cup-winning captain, joined Lancashire in the early 1970s as an overseas player. Lloyd's two-decade-long association with the club was transformational as he played a crucial role in reshaping Lancashire's cricketing fortunes.
The gesture immortalises the contributions made by both Engineer and Lloyd to the county, celebrating their legacies in English domestic cricket.
Engineer, now 87, has made Manchester his home post-retirement and continues to reside there.
Talking about Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter is one of the most important players in the Indian cricket Test team. He has also shone with his performance in IPL.

The Hundred looking to feed off IPL's 'phenomenal growth' after drawing Indian investment
The investment of four IPL owners into The Hundred will enable the England and Wales Cricket Board-backed event to grow rapidly and learn immensely from the skills possessed by the top minds working for the world's biggest T20 league. Out of the eight teams in the 100-ball competition, four will be partially owned by owners of Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals (only GMR group involved). After a long delay, the ECB finalised the deals with the IPL and other investors on Wednesday. Reliance Group, which will own 49 percent of the London-based Oval franchise, and Trent Rockets are yet to close agreements with the ECB. "It's brilliant. You look at what the IPL has done, forget cricket, in sport in general, the growth it's achieved in 18 short years. It's nothing short of phenomenal," said Vikram Banerji, Managing Director of The Hundred, in response to a PTI query on Thursday. "So the growth and the learnings, both on the field and off the field, that they can bring into this tournament, with the balance of the other investors that we've got from America and wherever else, I'm really excited about that side of things, about the skill sets that are now coming into English cricket," he said. The deal will take effect from 2026 season and the investors will take operation control of the franchise from October 1, 2025. Asked about the reason for the delay in closing the agreement with the Reliance-backed Oval franchise and Trent Rockets, Banerji said: "Right at the start we offered all the investors the opportunity to sign and close immediately whenever the legals were all done and have some involvement in this year. "On the whole, it's been run as it was, or close formally at the end of the season, early October, when they close formally, when they take operational control of the name of the brand. So those two chose that months ago. "With Trent Rockets, it's documents were signed and all the rest of it fully there. With the Oval Invincibles, there's three things left on their venue hire stuff that they're working through. They're small things, it'll be a matter of weeks, and that'll get signed out." Banerji and the rest of the stakeholders will soon have a meeting with the new investors for the tournament operations from 2026 onwards. Barring The Hundred, all leagues including the IPL are being played in the T20 format. Is there an inclination from the IPL owners to switch to the standard T20 format from the current 100-ball a side format? "I think you have to look at what works in this country. There have been some discussions around kind of it works elsewhere, but in this country, the format has provided us with some really interesting things, especially from a broadcast perspective in terms of the reach it's provided and that ability to create a new crowd. "At the moment, it's the 100 format, and that will remain for now. But let's see where we get to in a month," said Banerji, who added the participation of active Indian players remains off the card despite the IPL investment into the competition. Sitting alongside Banerji, ECB chief executive Richard Gould, was also asked about the participation of Pakistan players in The Hundred in light of Indian investment. No Pakistan player was picked in the 2025 draft for different reasons. Gould asserted the ECB will take action if the owners are found to be discriminatory in player selection irrespective of his nationality. "We would expect players of all nations to be selected for all teams. I haven't had the need to have any discussion at this point (with new investors)." So is the latest draft just a coincidence? "I don't, I don't know. But we have not had any discussions with the owners at this point. But, we've got very clear anti-discrimination policies within cricket in England. And if those are, if those are not adhered to, our cricket regulator will take action," said Gould. Now that the deals are done, the ECB expects the change in name of at least three teams backed by IPL team owners including Reliance, RPSG and GMR. The sale of stakes have catapulted the valuation of teams to over 975 million pounds with more than 500 million pounds set to be invested in English cricket.

Expanded field as DPL 2 gets set to kick off
New Delhi: The Delhi Premier League (DPL) begins its second season with defending champions East Delhi Riders taking on runners-up South Delhi Superstarz in the opener on Saturday. Captains of the eight franchises at the Delhi Premier League season 2 that begins on August 2. (DPL) With the addition of Outer Delhi Warriors and New Delhi Tigers this season, the expanded men's edition with a total of eight teams promises to be grander. The final is scheduled for August 31. Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), believes that the vision of transforming Delhi cricket by creating a more structured, competitive platform for the ecosystem is going as per plan. 'This year, the objective is to raise the bar in terms of quality of cricket,' Jaitley said. 'We are committed to providing the best infrastructure and facilities, along with increased exposure for players,' he told HT. 'The buzz this time around suggests a lot more is happening and our planning ahead of it has ensured more outreach and better avenues,' Jaitley added. Ashok Sharma, DDCA secretary said: 'There shouldn't be any doubt that the league has been a great success for both players and fans. Many players from the league were able to play in the IPL after being unearthed in DPL and we recorded approximately 21,000 spectators in the final last year. The DDCA is doing its best to provide a platform to those who have not made it to the IPL yet.' 'Delhi was lacking a platform for T20 cricket but in just one season, we have managed to change that,' Sharma added. East Delhi Riders have retained key players such as keeper-batter Anuj Rawat, who takes over as captain, and Mayank Rawat, the hero of last year's final. They've bolstered the squad by signing experienced pacer Navdeep Saini. South Delhi Superstarz, led by Ayush Badoni, will miss the services of Priyansh Arya, who has moved to Outer Delhi Warriorz. Superstarz have also added Aryaveer Kohli. New entrants New Delhi Tigers are being led by seasoned Delhi batter Himmat Singh. Their major signings include big-hitter Hiten Dalal and pacer Prince Yadav. 'With DDCA giving us a platform to showcase our talent and to a lot more youngsters in DPL, it's a preparation for handling pressure at any level,' said Singh. Central Delhi Kings, led by Jonty Sindhu, will feature Simarjeet Singh, last year's leading wicket-taker with 18 dismissals who is the most expensive player this season – he was acquired for ₹39 lakh. The squad also includes Aaryavir Sehwag. It's a homecoming of sorts for Nitish Rana, who will captain West Delhi Lions. After playing two seasons for Uttar Pradesh, the seasoned left-handed batter returns to Delhi's domestic circuit. North Delhi Strikers come in with a strong core, having retained pacer Harshit Rana and brought in left-arm quick Kuldip Yadav. Outer Delhi Warriorz, the other new franchise, will be captained by all-rounder Siddhant Sharma and features leg-spinner Suyash Sharma alongside Arya. Purani Dilli 6 will be led by Vansh Bedi, who was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in IPL, and includes none other than Rishabh Pant as its marquee player, lending star power to the line-up. India men's football head coach: What makes Khalid Jamil frontrunner ahead of Stephen Constantine & Stefan Tarkovic?
The Indian men's football team will have a new head coach when the All India Football Federation (AIFF) executive committee meets virtually on Friday. Following the departure of Manolo Marquez, the AIFF had invited applications for the position. The governing body of Indian football in the country shortlisted Khalid Jamil, Stephen Constantine and Stefan Tarkovic among the 170 names submitted. Jamil is currently coaching Jamshedpur FC in the ongoing Durand Cup while Constantine is a former India head coach. Tarkovic, who had been a national team coach, has no links with Indian football. However, among the three, Jamil looks to be the frontrunner for the top job. A former player, Tarkovic has been at helm for his native Slovakia and Kyrgyzstan - a criteria that will be given preference according to the AIFF advertisement. However, Tarkovic lack of knowledge about Indian football puts him out of contention for the job. Tarkovic's last assignment was with Kyrgyzstan that ended in June 2024. Why Stephen Constantine is unlikely to get third term? Constantine, 62, has been India head coach twice, from 2002-05 and 2015-19. The Anglo-Cypriot was also in charge of East Bengal in the Indian Super League in 2022-23 but the club's ninth-place finish could put him at a disadvantage. Constantine took charge of Pakistan in 2023 and though they won a first World Cup qualifier (against Cambodia) under him, it turned out to be his only win in 10 matches in charge.
