Strong storms and damaging winds possible in parts of Miami-Dade, Broward in the afternoon

CBS News23-05-2025
South Florida is bracing for potentially strong storms this afternoon and evening, including heavy rainfall and localized flooding in some areas.
The NEXT Weather Team had issued NEXT Weather Alert Day for Friday due to the potential for strong to severe afternoon storms.
NEXT Weather meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez says the most active period for stormy weather will be from noon through 8 p.m.
The main concern will be storms which could contain damaging wind, hail, and isolated heavy downpours.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Miami-Dade and Broward at a marginal risk for isolated strong storms on Friday. The heating of the day will help fuel those storms. Friday afternoon highs will be around 90 degrees.
While the risk level is marginal, the lowest on the SPC's five-tier scale, residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially during peak storm times.
Outdoor plans and commutes could be impacted by sudden downpours or localized severe conditions.
The heat continues through Memorial Day Weekend with afternoon highs near 90 degrees and "feels like" temperatures in the mid to upper 90s. The chance of rain is 30% for scattered showers.

Another heat advisory dogs South Florida with scattered rains expected in the late afternoon

The NEXT Weather Team is tracking another heat advisory for today along with the potential for scattered showers and storms developing later in the afternoon. A heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday as "feels-like" temperatures could soar up to 107 for parts of Southeast Florida and the Keys. Make sure to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks out of the heat, and wear light, loose-fitting clothing today. Similar heat will also kick off the workweek as heat index values remain in the triple digits. In addition to the heat, rain chances will trend slightly higher today and throughout the upcoming week. Isolated showers will be possible along the Keys and the east coast on Sunday morning, but scattered showers and storms are expected to develop in the afternoon through early evening, especially for parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Rain chances are around 40 percent for Sunday, so not everyone will receive rain, but you'll want to keep an umbrella nearby to be on the safe side. If you don't use your umbrella today, there is a good chance you'll need it at some point through the workweek as daily rain chances will range from 40-50 percent, especially Wednesday through next weekend. Afternoon highs will linger in the lower 90s each day.

Cooler temps Friday in Philadelphia area, beautiful summer weekend ahead. Here's the weather forecast.

August starts Friday with breezy northeast winds, mostly cloudy skies and stray showers in the Philadelphia region. But the big story is the much cooler air that arrives. Highs on Friday will hover in the mid-70s, about 10-15 degrees below average and almost 20 degrees cooler than Thursday. The last time our high temperatures were in the 70s was more than a month ago on June 27. We had 21 90-degree days this July. That ties the most 90-degree days ever recorded for Philadelphia in the month of July. So far, we have seen 30 90-degree days since June 1. All that stifling heat is behind us now, and there are no NEXT Weather Alerts in the next seven days, so make you plans for what is going to be an incredibly nice weekend. Both days will be in the low to mid-80s with sunny skies. Nights will be cool and pleasant with clear skies and low 60s. The first week of August begins with sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s. However, by Wednesday clouds move in, and rain returns Thursday. Friday: A.M. shower, cool. High 75, Low 66. Saturday: Beautiful. High 83, Low 64. Sunday: Sunny, nice. High 84, Low 62. Monday: Mostly sunny. High 87, Low 63. Tuesday: Clouds and sun. High 86, Low 65. Wednesday: Shower possible. High 76, Low 68. Thursday: Partly cloudy. High 84, Low 66.
