Conor Coady to Rangers transfer timeline emerges as Ibrox side in talks for 2 more deals after landing defender

Daily Record2 days ago

Talks have been ongoing with the Foxes and there is a willingness on the 32-year-old's part to move to Ibrox
Rangers hope to get the green light from Leicester City to sign Conor Coady this week.
The former England international has been a long-term target for sporting director Kevin Thelwell since he was appointed over the summer.

Talks have been ongoing with the Foxes and there is a willingness on the 32-year-old's part to move to Ibrox.

The move has been slowed down by Leicester's decision to sack head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy and the fallout from their relegation from the Premier League and the financial impact of that.
The Midlands club have had more pressing issues but are expected to give Coady the green light to move north.
The former Wolves defender is on a decent wage and in the final year of his deal.
The move would help them cut their wage budget.
Rangers wouldn't be able to offer the same wages but are willing to put a long-term deal in place to land Coady.
New boss Russell Martin has already brought in Max Aarons from Norwich City on-loan and Coady is also likely to be part of his new-look defence.

Rangers had also targeted Kwame Poku but he has decided to go to Queen's Park Rangers.
The Ibrox side could have signed him from Peterborough for nothing cross-border.
Rangers tabled a big-money deal in excess of £1million-a-year because they didn't have to pay compensation.

Their move was scooped when QPR matched those wages and also agreed to pay Peterborough compensation.
The 23-year-old then decided he wanted to move to London to be closer to his family than to head to Scotland.
Rangers are still working on a couple of other fronts, with Liverpool left back Owen Beck amongst them and Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgeman.
The Light Blues are also waiting to see what happens with interest in some of their own players.
Lille are keen on Hamza Igamane but Rangers' valuation is an issue and that remains the case for AEK Athens and Cyriel Dessers.

Tottenham interested in West Ham star Mohammed Kudus in surprise transfer not seen for 14 years

TOTTENHAM are interested in making their first signing from West Ham in 14 years. The North London outfit are keen on Hammers star Mohammed Kudus this summer. 4 4 Kudus, 24, arrived at the London Stadium in 2023 from Ajax for a fee of £35million. West Ham beat competition from Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea to snare the Ghanaian star's signature. However, the club are open to cashing in on the attacker in order to fund their own summer rebuild for manager Graham Potter. The Telegraph have claimed that Kudus could be set to the unlikely destination of rivals Tottenham. The Europa League winners are said to be open to breaking their "unofficial transfer embargo" to sign Kudus. Should a transfer go through, he would be the first player to move directly to Spurs since Scott Parker in 2011. The former England international joined the Hammers' rivals after their relegation to the Championship. Parker was a shining light at Upton Park that season as he was named the PFA Players' Player of the Year despite the club finishing bottom. Kudus is said to be open to the controversial transfer and has a release clause of £85m. A move would see him return to Champions League football and play under Thomas Frank. Kudus starred for the Hammers in his debut season in the Premier League. He scored 14 goals and assisted six more across all competitions as the club finished 9th and reached the Europa League quarter-finals. Last season, he failed to continue his electrifying performances as West Ham slumped to a 14th-placed finish in the Premier League. 4 He could only muster five goals and four assists in 35 appearances in all competitions. Kudus has recently changed agents to the renowned sports management firm ROOF amid speculation over his future. West Ham are yet to add to their squad this summer despite the exits of long-serving players Aaron Cresswell, Vladimir Coufal and Lukas Fabianski. There is still uncertainty over the future of Michail Antonio with his contract set to expire. The club's Premier League record goalscorer has not played for the club since his horror car crash in December. But he has made his return to the pitch as he appeared for Jamaica in the 1-0 Gold Cup loss to Guatemala earlier this month. 4

Tammy Abraham closing in on £17million Roma transfer exit to link up with ex-Man Utd boss

TAMMY ABRAHAM is set for a move to Turkey with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Besiktas. The England striker has spend the last four seasons in Italy after laving boyhood club Chelsea. 2 Abraham, 27, joined Roma in 2021 and netted 37 times in 120 appearances for I Giallorossi. The 6ft 4in striker spent last season on loan with Italian rivals AC Milan, netting ten times in all competitions. But that wasn't enough to earn a permanent move as Milan suffered a disappointing season. And he could now be set for a new challenge in Turkey's Super Lig. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has been made between Roma and Besiktas, with Abraham set to jet in for a medical soon. Abraham would be a statement signing Solskjaer, who took the reins in Turkey in January after a three-year spell away from management following his ill-fated tenure with Manchester United. Abraham will join Besiktas' current front-man Ciro Immobile, who netted 15 league goals last season after making his own switch from Serie A in the summer. His arrival would bolster a squad full of ex-Premier League talent, including Arsenal and Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and ex- Spurs disappointment Gedson Fernandes. 2 The deal would spark Besiktas' quiet transfer window into life, with their only other business so far being making last year's loan signings of Felix Uduokhai and Joao Mario permanent. Roma appointed former Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini as they're new manager earlier this month, throwing Abraham's future into uncertainty. Abraham would be the latest in a series of Roma departures, with midfielder Enzo le Fee, full-back Samuel Dahl and winger Nicola Zalewski all completing permanent moves away from the club this summer. Abraham moved to Italy for a fee of £35m four years ago after he failed to cement himself in the Chelsea set-up.

Rangers 'hold' transfer talks with Serie A winger as Jamie Vardy 'open' to Ibrox deal

The Premiership side are ramping up their transfer search with the Champions League qualifiers rapidly approaching Rangers have reportedly held "concrete talks" with Como over winger Samuel Ballet. A new wide man is on the Ibrox shopping list following the departure of Vaclav Cerny at the end of last season with QPR winning the race for target Kwame Poku. ‌ And Blick Sports claims that Rangers officials have been holding talks with the Serie A side over a move for the 24-year-old who spent last season on loan at FC Zurich. ‌ The Swiss side are said to be "increasingly likely" to miss out on a permanent deal with the officials from. The Scottish Premiership side holding "concrete talks" over a deal. Norwich City and Trabzonspor are also said to be chasing a deal. With both Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers potentially heading for the exit, a new striker is also in the minds of the Rangers' higher-ups, Jamie Vardy would be "open" to a move to Glasgow. That is according to transfer insider Mick Brown - who expects "movement" on the 38-year-old's future in the coming days after his Leicester City contract officially expired. Rangers are far from alone in chasing the veteran's signature with a whopping 10 clubs said to be in the picture, but Brown told Football Insider: 'Signing Jamie Vardy would be a good move for Rangers. It's a deal they've been looking into because they're always keen to capitalise on any opportunities to sign top players on free transfers. 'I expect there will be a lot of movement this week with contracts expiring today [June 30]. It's one I expect Vardy would be open to as well, because it's less intense than the Premier League which maybe at this stage of his career he isn't best suited to. 'Plus, it would give him and opportunity to play in Europe so he's still at a high level. ‌ 'He's performed to a very good level for a number of years and now he's maybe going over the top, so a move to Rangers would be a good opportunity. 'e'd fit in well and score plenty of goals, and that's exactly what Russell Martin needs. Especially if they're expecting to lose two of their current forwards. ‌ 'Then, because he would be on a free transfer, they can save some money which would then be put towards other areas of the team.' Croatian centre-back Luka Jelenic is reportedly a target for Rangers just 12 months after a move to Osijek. The 25-year-old only joined his current club in an £800,000 deal last summer and a bargain deal could be on the cards at Ibrox. Vitoria Guimaraes has also been linked with a move - but a path appears to be clear with O Jogo reporting the club are no longer interested.
